I think there's also a cultural difference that the author isn't considering. Anime is fantastical and some of the "annoying things" are apart of Japanese speech or culture. That's on top of playing a character of the vtuber if they choose to. It's fine if he doesn't like vtubers. It seems like he's missing some key components.
A lot of the anime girls he showed is not how Japanese women act/talk. Not regularly anyways. Yes they tend to try/want to act cute but anime is NOT at all comparable to Japanese people
Most japan vtuber is constantly switching between "normal talking" and "anime talking" on stream, one moment they speak like average japanese person and few minutes later they're playing an anime character.
There's such a real simplification from the guy talking about the rise of vocaloid and why it became so successful. It's not only that Hatsune Miku is marketable--vocaloid itself became highly successful because it became a gateway for musicians who can't sing to create music with a machine that can as long as you plug in the lyrics and chords. It also created a new market for artists, animators, lyricists, and so on because of this new software. Successful vocaloid song producers were able to cash in on their famous songs by creating concerts with Miku Hatsune and updated holographic technology (that also has been further expanded and explored also partly thanks to Vocaloid and Hatsune Miku). You also have to understand that Japan and Vocaloid (as in the company) do copyright differently than the US. Because Miku's or any other vocaloid image is able to be reproduced again and again without copyright infringement, it allows artists to freely make Miku products and so on to capitalize on. Some vocaloid producers were able to get highly recognized because of their work in the vocaloid community (from livetune to ryo in supercell to Yonezu Kenshi). The software and its policies allows for creative expression to the max with these things. We're heading towards an age that will merge AI, VR, video games, and so on to create better chatrooms or opportunities where we can interact people more digitally instead of in person, like even digital VR concerts! Anyway, vtubing itself is beautiful. It's a great, amazing, new market within the anime community, but it'll keep diverging from its origins, I'm sure! It's still in its infancy stage, but within Japan for example, it's a little threatened because Japanese people enjoy and love their privacy moreso than Americans, who aren't very careful with their image and show their faces moreso on social media compared to Japanese--because of advanced facial recognition in Asia------basically, the JPN government wants to get rid of the sweet anonymity vtubers enjoy with having their identities become public information anyone can search up. 🙃 Being identified in Japan as a public face is very exhausting, stressful, and so on; therefore, it'd be a real shame if the Japanese govt does that to its citizens and even foreign vtubers in the country. With that not being linked to your real persona, it's easier to live your real life without struggle. Vtubers can actually have boyfriends or girlfriends unlike Japanese idols under contract and public stigma. This guy just needs to keep out of the Japanese culture side and stay in the anime bubble fr 🤨
Adding Hatsune Miku herself as part of the branding did help with extrapolating the popularity. Take for example all the animations and concerts, they all use "hatsune miku, the character", rather than the producers behind the songs even after many of them being very open about their appearance. In fact this was Wowaka's problem with Vocaloid, people didn't knew the artists using the instrument of hatsune miku and co, they knew "hatsune miku sings senbonzakura feat producer X" or "hatsune miku sings Rolling girl, feat producer X" and this also affected vocaloid subs - which was the main way these artits would be recognized overseas and would end up as "feat producer". No amount of putting "x producer ft. the vocaloid" or not even mentioning in the title was fixing this. Things were so bad that many artists left the fandom precisely because the Vocaloids were front and center at the time no matter how public a persona you were, while the artists weren't recognized at all. It wasn't until some years after their peaks that Artists were more getting more notoriety as themselves, be it because they started to sing in the songs or because the Vocaloid fandom and fame wasn't that high at the time. Like, from an objective perspective you are right, the guy simplified the rise to fame too much but you yourself are also undermining A LOT the effect that having a recognizeable face (the vocaloids themselves) to attach to and expand the brand and community, in part because you were not just a fan of X producer, many people in the fandom were fan of "miku" or "songs using miku" and how cute "miku" is. This is also a reason the vocaloid fandom sometimes sees the lows of vocaloid as "vocaloid dying", like ATM. More Vocaloids are available, many with absolutely better voice banks like KAFU or Rose than what we had before, but these ones don't really get as much animations as miku and the classics and when they do they many times don't even use the character - there's no character to "attach" to and expand the fandom and, as a result, the fandom is more fragmented because the people listening to "X-P feat Kafu" are more likely to be fans of "X-P" rather than "Kafu".
@@christophergarcia9022 your take is ok 😋--it expands on the vocaloid side of things, but you left out that a lot of japanese vocaloid producers went into the anime industry as producers too, like ryo from supercell and yonezu kenshi, for example. I think from the very beginning, it was risky to be a producer if you wanted to become famous. So many producers were in the market and if fans wanted to find their fave songs, they had to go through the youtube wormholes themselves listening to diff vocaloid songs for hours and days on end. That was an amazing and still amazing part of the vocaloid community. It made me realize how much music there is in the world and how many kinds of sounds humans can create!!! With vocaloid, you are able to safely and anonymously express yourself as a human being and use a character as a shield. Vocaloid itself has contributed SOOOO much music to humankind but can't be labeled as a "genre." That would be so damn unfair, is unfair, and stupid (i think this is a genre at the Japanese karaoke bars 😂). As for wowaka, rest in beats, even my junior high school Japanese students from 5+ plus years ago to now still listen to wowaka today and know the immense success of "Rolling Girl" and his other works. Wowaka himself participated in the anime and Japanese music industry outside of the vocaloid sphere. I covered a lot of topics in my comment, so of course, I wasn't going to go too deeply into vocaloid but end up linking that too to vtubing. As an early well-explored vocaloid fan in my teens, I was very aware of the hit producers in vocaloid. I think it all comes down to personal taste of music. I'm more of an indie girl who loved to explore all vocaloid songs and loved some more unknown producers, but yeah. I collected my favorite vocaloid songs from popular to very unknown ones. I still have them on my phone today because it's GOLD to me. I would never say I enjoyed vocaloid bc of the quality of their music banks or so much bc of the characters but BC of the music, as you mentioned in your comment. Some people are hardcore fans of some producers, popular and unknown. It's why I don't agree with your comment so much. I wonder how other vocaloid fans feel.
I'm going to be completely honest. I'm guilty of being obsessed over hatsune miku. I have a literal hatsune miku SHRINE in my locker at school. I carry all my books in my backpack just bec I'm too lazy to put them in my locker and my locker is a shrine lol
I went to a Vtuber concert at Anime Frontier and I kid you not, I could not understand a single word they were saying in that high pitch voice they spoke in. (Hololive sisters btw, idk their names) and it makes me forget that Kenji is also a vtuber because hes just a youtuber/streamer with a model to me. I like a genuine person :) Thanks for keeping it real, Kenji
As a first time watcher of you, and a scamboli reviews fan- Yeah, I like that dude too lmao. Btw, love your model and same, if I get into vtubing, it's because I never wanted to show my face online anyways, and it'd make marketing easier. I feel like I'd be able to have fun drawing and gaming n shit without worrying about too much else. I don't have to play a whole anime girl character like that if I don't want to anyways, model and all.
Please can I go two minutes without seeing Kenji’s nubs that he’s calling fingers 😂😂😂 Edit: And yeah he makes completely valid points which is why I watch only a couple of vtubers that have their own personalities
i used to watch hella vtubers, but now the only one i really watch regularly is ironmouse, i dont understand why people hate on them, they just wanna make content while also concealing their identity, in my opinion its really good for people with social phobias.
I had to step back from watching some vtubers, i love their personality but sometimes some of the VTubers allow chat to take full control of the streams and i wish the streamer would take more control of their streams. I enjoy vtubers whos chat flows smoothly, not a cringe fest of random moanings, meows and woofs

To be honest, I don't care about Vtubers. If I don't like the creator, I don't watch them, but when I do, I'll obviously watch them. I don't get the point of people complaining about this shit anymore LMAO. Just do other things if you don't like it! Simply as that!

I feel like mostly towards "loli" vctuber characters while im not heavy into the vtuber world I do have a few I watch mainly because their content is good and few who designs their own vtubers as well, but also gives privacy to those who do stream. I wouldn't say I found any vtubing weird just more like was like ?? this is new but also reminds me back then when artist would draw self insert of "persona" characters now just in the day of age where they come to life and its great but defiantly not every vtuber is meant for entertainment
Kenji is the only VTuber I watch because, honestly, some VTubers can be a bit cringe-no offense. I especially dislike the ones with the cutesy, fake voices many female VTubers use, or the loli-style avatars that look like kids with exaggerated body proportions and the sexual themes they associate their self with. It’s even worse knowing there are fans who thirst over those little-girl avatars. Or maybe that’s just me.

18:56 THERE'S TEARS IN MY EYES RN OH MY GODDD BRO I'M LITERALLY CRYING RN
I went to a Vtuber concert at Anime Frontier and I kid you not, I could not understand a single word they were saying in that high pitch voice they spoke in. (Hololive sisters btw, idk their names) and it makes me forget that Kenji is also a vtuber because hes just a youtuber/streamer with a model to me. I like a genuine person :) Thanks for keeping it real, Kenji
When I saw Kenji’s model I knew he was wild asl 😂
The fact that Kenji rarely has a closing to his videos always caught me off guard 😂 i'm new here, guess I'll get used to it later
18:01 KENJI GAVE US A HOLE FUCKING WHIMPER AUDIO LMAOO SM CLIP THAT 20:13 why was his "ara~ara" kinda..
I dont really watch vtubers, Kenji the main one (and his friend group). Ngl i thought they were hella wierd, and I still do (including Kenji 😂)
13:38 No 😭 Scamboli is a gritty little suspense/angst goblin. That's one of the scariest kinds of people.
Please can I go two minutes without seeing Kenji’s nubs that he’s calling fingers 😂😂😂
Edit: And yeah he makes completely valid points which is why I watch only a couple of vtubers that have their own personalities
NO I HAD MY AUDIO SO LOUD 😱😭 23:40
Am lucky i plugged my earphone 20 secs ago
i used to watch hella vtubers, but now the only one i really watch regularly is ironmouse, i dont understand why people hate on them, they just wanna make content while also concealing their identity, in my opinion its really good for people with social phobias.
I had to step back from watching some vtubers, i love their personality but sometimes some of the VTubers allow chat to take full control of the streams and i wish the streamer would take more control of their streams. I enjoy vtubers whos chat flows smoothly, not a cringe fest of random moanings, meows and woofs
I just began to watch you and you’re my first and favorite tuber! Love your videos ❤️😭
GOD THIS MAN WAS SO FUNNY I HAVENT LAUGHED AT A RUclips VIDEO SO HARD IN A WHILE
THE VTUBERS I WATCH ARNT LIKE THAT I SWEAR 😭 anyways thanks for spoiling us with daily uploads Kenji
im taiwanese and its just sad that some vtubers just get suspended just for saying Taiwan like idk man 😭😭😭
This is actually a really good video. The dude who made it did his thang 👌
the intro. HIT ME SO FRIGGIN HARD DUDE PLS LMAOOOOO 0:37
I guess I'll be one of those vtubers people look at and say "wtf is this" 😭
This is only like the second or third video I've watched of yours so far & seeing that MS paint version of your avatar just killed me I couldn't stop laughing for the first minute. 😂
I'm very new to V-tubers in general like I've always known about them for the last few years but never watched any of them because they were too weird & low quality for me at the time but the other day you randomly got recommended to me so I took a chance & I'm glad I did because you sir are really funny & down to Earth from what I can tell so thank you for easing me into the V-tuber scene without scaring me off from it, I wouldn't have been interested without you & your videos & I give you full credit for that.
If anyone has good recommendations just let me know & I'll check them out.
Love the kenji content‼️ ty discord for the notif🫶
as someone who was there during the time that video was made i can confirm the vtuber community was NOT what it is today
"Friendly fire will not be tolerated"
glad I discovered you recently you're funny as hell
kenji is always relateable when you think of it
1:59 the way an ad came in one second after the clip appeared 💀
Kenji is the only vtuber who can actually make me laugh….
And the only one I watch
For me, I used to be super judgemental of vtubers and mostly had a misunderstanding about them. RUclips randomly showed me some clips in the summer a few months back, and that's when I kinda of joined if after finding it a lot of fun! I really got into it recently though, and the only ones I follow are normal people... I've literally never seen the stuff that the dude talked about in his YT video, so I'm guessing vtubing changed a lot and also the dude never really saw the normal ones as much
What i see vtubers as, are people that wanna do facecam, but are too shy to do facecam, so they make a virtual body to do virtual facecam.
It took me two days to get into vtubers so I had no background info. Now I cant get out of it heeeeeelp hahaha
Thank you kenji for being the first VTuber I got on my feed bc id never get into this shit if i got any other VTuber💀
I used to think vtuber's fans were weird otakus with 0 game, and indeed, Im weird otaku with 0 game
Wait till he finds out movies and TV show actors are acting
Kenji honestly you the only vtuber I could watch without cringing lmaooo
MY JAW FUCKING DROPED WHEN HE STARTED MOANING AT 17:59
21:48 your telling me that's not Kenji
After watching this video this makes me realized ALL THOSE REASONS THAT GUY MADE IS THE ONLY REASON I WATCH KENJI to me personally everyone else is boring af but they got funny moments kenji is out of pocket 24/7
There’s no way you started moanin and groanin kenji-😫
20:33 not the models gaze softening after the wop womp.I wonder if bro will make another video since vtubers have ig grown more
This vid was fire bro🔥
17:52 Was that the master of the second veil freemason hand sign?
I was some of your old videos when I saw the notification for this one when I tell you I press that link so fast to watch this video ❤😂 love the vids keep up the great work ❤( i also remember when you did the ara ara during stream shi funny af😂)
can't believe he pulled up with wanko at the end that was so funny lmao
Kenji: *mentions enjoying Shylily*
Me: Ahh, a man of culture!
Kenji's weird looking Vtube thingy is the death on me 😭😭
I don't know what's to hate, but then I am also a Miku enjoyer so, different things for different people I guess
But at least he is fair. He realizes everyone likes different things. Too many people just go "I don't like this, so I hate those who do", which makes no sense. To each their own and we can still get along... maybe once Twitter gets abolished xD
Bro at 23:46 my mom just came in the room and heard this buddy I got the belt💀💀
14:17 MY WHOLE JAW IS GONE
this is so outdated tho - Coco Kiryu is Kson now (and she's in VShojo)
To be honest, I don't care about Vtubers. If I don't like the creator, I don't watch them, but when I do, I'll obviously watch them. I don't get the point of people complaining about this shit anymore LMAO. Just do other things if you don't like it! Simply as that!
Omfg I thought he was talking fast or fast forwarding I HAD IT ON 2X
I used to be in the gacha community and I play roblox and shit and I know how you fucking feel
People are obsessed with choosing the WORST people to use as the stereotype public image
And, if you don’t like something, if it doesn’t hurt anyone then just ignore it wtf
At first I thought the video was KENJI saying that he hated vtubers 😂 I forgot that he is one!
Explain to me when Kenji said the stuff he’d do as a girl reminds me of the songs “6000 Degrees (AH HA)” and “Sneaky Link Shemix” 🤣
I thought vtubers were weird until i found kenji on tiktok a long long time ago
I wish people didn't harass aspiring black vtubers, it's insane how badly they're treated in comparison to their white/asian counterparts
Kenji any advise I’m currently getting ready to start streaming and I really want to be a vtuber. I am an artist aswel so I have made my own model and I’m learning how to rigg just so I can but I need some tips on how to do so thank you for listening to my rant
WHY'RE YOU BUILT LIKE THAT 💀
"They aren't real", like really, how'd you figure that out? Who would ever guess fictional characters aren't real people?
kenji litteraly watching a video of 1min for about 27min bruh💀
that moaning shit caught me off guard 💀 turned my volume down so fast
14:15 ayo?!
23:40 bro wtf?! The disgusted on my face 😩😭
HIS REACTION AT 23:44 LMAOAO
I speak to Japanese ppl all the time, let me say. It most DEFINITELY is like "eh eto nani chotto eeeeh" 😂😂
2:04 blud said I’m all ears
Honestly, this guy is genuinely pretty chill. Got a fair few friends who have less than zero interest in V-Tubers, and they have very similar reasons to this guy. Just nice to see more people who genuinely do not get the appeal not turning full circle into being needlessly insulting about it. Aside from the jabs, but they're funny, so he gets a pass
Lmao kenji ty for the vid
right as kenji mentioned hololive, guess what i got an ad for. he's funny enough he made a joke without meaning to istg
Ima be honest kenji youre a rare exception in the Vtubing community that isn’t brain rot and partaking in simp culture. That’s why v tubing gets hated on so much it’s a bunch of teenagers simping for a girl they’ll never meet or even see their face. 😅
HELP THE FIRST CLIPPP HAHAHAHA
17:48 damn bro i thought i had struck gold and you hit me with a bad boy husbando? Heart broken
