Habitat 67 is a distinctive housing complex located in Montreal, Canada. It was designed by architect Moshe Safdie as part of his thesis project for the McGill University School of Architecture. The design of Habitat 67 is notable for its innovative approach to urban housing. Tropiques Nord is a condominium complex located in the Cité du Havre in Montreal, completed in 1989.
Designed by the architectural firm Tolchinsky and Goodz, Tropiques Nord is the idea of Jean de Brabant, a Montreal developer who participated in the transformation of a former Dupuis Frères department store into an office building by introducing two landscaped atriums. De Brabant discovered that tenants preferred offices overlooking garden courtyards and decided to incorporate atriums into an apartment building. It features a Hawaiian garden designed by Herbert Ramsaier, former chief landscape architect for Walt Disney Imagineering.
