However, It seems his Grandma just would top the date jam with a small amount of dough, which I have seen before.

I just don’t like oatmeal raisins because every single time I’ve encountered them, no one said what it was, I assumed the dark bits were chocolate, and then it turns out to be raisins (also I don’t like dried fruit). I’ve had several instances of a similar situation with regular oatmeal cookies, but because there’s no dark bits, I don’t have the expectation of it being a chocolate chip, so I instantly enjoy it. My brain just doesn’t like thinking food will taste one way, before it turns out to taste another way

Opposite for me. LOL I grabbed what I thought was oatmeal chocolate chip and it turned out to be oatmeal raisin because I wasn't paying attention. And because I hate raisins, my tastebuds were like; "YOU SAID IT WAS OATMEAL CHOCOLATE CHIP YOU LIED!" (obviously I spat it out after that first bite. XD)

Oatmeal raisin is the worst cookie next to the frosted sugar cookies. Cookies are supposed to be a sweet treat, usually made of flour. Oatmeal raisin is the diet cookie of cookies. The house on the block that gives fruit to children during Halloween. Then there's the frosted sugar cookies. These are delicious, but a thick pasty choking hazard.
I just don’t like oatmeal raisins because every single time I’ve encountered them, no one said what it was, I assumed the dark bits were chocolate, and then it turns out to be raisins (also I don’t like dried fruit). I’ve had several instances of a similar situation with regular oatmeal cookies, but because there’s no dark bits, I don’t have the expectation of it being a chocolate chip, so I instantly enjoy it. My brain just doesn’t like thinking food will taste one way, before it turns out to taste another way
Maybe split out chocolate chip cookies as a cookie and everything else is a biscuit then you don't have the disappointment factor with the oatmeal
