- Hi everyone I've missed you. I feel like I haven't been on RUclips lately and hopefully this video explains it all. So many fun projects that we are working on and I can barely keep up with social media these days but I am NOT complaining. Anyway let me know what you think of the mid century house updates so far. As always anything I can find links to will be down below:

The “B****- you’re nothing” had my dying Lmao. Arvin is hilarious.
"no body asked" but Andrew's patience is everything. God bless your beautiful casa.😊
I love all of your “I don’t want to hear it” remarks. You make me laugh and smile so much. No judgement here. I totally understand the remodel process. Just keep telling yourself that it is temporary and it will all come together some day! You’re doing a GREAT job. 👏👏👏
Hahah gotta keep it real on my end and have "disclaimers" because the amount of DUMB comments I get is getting annoying
I’m in publishing and I tell all my authors “you know you’re making it when someone doesn’t like what you do!!”
Andrew is just like my husband - an electrician who is laidback and does everything I ask (mostly) and I'm you - squealing over the tiniest thing we build/move/renovate/install that makes me happy 🥰
I love that you can admit if something doesn’t work you’ll try something else or arrange it differently. You helped me learn that it’s a process.
That's why I'm sharing this! Its never PERFECT the first time around
This!! Yes! So helpful!!
I love the sconce. Its like an art installation. I get the feeling of Calder.
It was so good to see you both and go on a vintage find with you.
agreed calder vibes
Totally agree. Two lamps that are not matchy-matchy look curated. As much as I love art (I’m an art curator), I hate when an art piece is chosen “to match a sofa”. I would rather have bare walls for a while than place there an ‘artwork’ from amazon. Art is thoughts and ideas, it’s not craft. You are building a conscious environment where there’s no place for conventional solutions 😉 Looking forward to seeing more updates, and thank you for being you!
That sconce is STUNNING ! I’m not a big red person but it looks so chic and subtle in your space.
Spray paint it black….trust me….
I love the red lamp on the wall. It’s not only a functional lamp, but an art piece.
It was great seeing you post. Nothing like a good ol’ Arvin dance break… a throwback to your Homegoods rug show! LOL. Looking forward to more vids soon!
With the walls being sooo white you definitely need a large piece of artwork that pulls in the colors and style of the room. While it’s tacky to bring in art that matches your furniture, find a large piece and I mean LARGE, not the little tiny pieces of art you normally seem to use to help bring this room together. You got this. You’ve done a pretty good job bringing in so many different pieces but less is more. Good to see you back. Missed you.
Arvin..you've still got it! ❤ Dance on my friend!🕺🏻🕺🏻🕺🏻🕺🏻
I'm sure he knows that😊
Snore
Right?
The transformation since the beginning of your interior design journey has been amazing. ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much!!
“Ooooh, look at this! “
“Ummm, it’s nothing.”
“Betch, YOU’RE nothing!” 🤣😂😂😂
So good 🧡🧡🧡 BEEEEAUTIFUL pieces as well!
That moment will go down in history for me ! 😂😂
😂 thanks for watching!
😂😂😂 I literally laughed out loud! He was on a roll today! 😂😂😂😂
Literally wanted to laugh about it in the comments😂😂 iconic
😂😂that caught me off guard lol
"I don't want to hear it" is a mood and I am here for it!
Andrew is such a darling!
Love him
Was thinking of Joan Crawford when you talked about the wires lol 😅 love 💗 your home!
❤ hi Arvin ur home is so beautiful and u decorate so beautifully always Laura
Oh. Love the red shaded lamp. It is total sculpture. I love the brass lamp also but I would move it elsewhere and let your articulating stunner rule
Totally agree. He is beyond patient.
I think the sconce diminishes the height and weight that the floor lamp would otherwise give to the room. I also see your point about softening the shade.
The red sconce lamp makes your room like a Miro painting. Welcome back! Missed you and the Frenchies
awww missed you too
I had to pause because this is OUT OF THIS WORLD. Every piece. You are really hitting your stride!!!
The pure joy you take in what you do is so contagious, Arvin❣️
Wish we could bottle your energy!
Love everything you do to create beautiful spaces. You and Andrew are such a wonderful team. 💞
I love your growth. I started watching when you were running through Target and HomeGoods. Now looking at your home now, I can’t imagine anything from those stores, in your space. I love that funky wall sconce. Before changing it, try adding a textural, neutral art piece. Hi Andrew!
So worth the wait! If the floor lamp is raised a bit, I think both lamps are incredible in the space. How about softening with wall art? Framed fabrics/rugs are a personal favorite. Fingers crossed we will see a skylight in the kitchen 😉
Really a skylight in the kitchen? That will make it look a lot better.
It is looking great but I totally agree. My first thought before you said it was, "You need something softer with the wall lamp." I think you are spot on and heading in the right direction but it's a process...trial and error. All part of the fun!
Omg, the dancing, i miss it so much🤌🏻👏🏼, love it. 😂😂. Arvin, lil' by lil' everything will tied together, no rushing !!!. Looking good so far !!!
Thank you! One piece at a time over here lately :)
The brass lamp is divine!!!!
I feel like muted/abstract fabric-based art piece (tapestry, or painting in a distressed fabric frame) could bridge the two lamps together and add some softness. The starkness might be from the negative space.
Glad to see you! I like a fabric shade on that type of a sconce. Maybe move that sconce to your library and find a scone with an arm and fabric shade for living area.
Agree with you on the articulating wall sconce, though I love it. The brass lamp is such a show stopper that it needs something quieter and more subtle on the opposite side. Perhaps the wall sconce in the library? Andrew is such a trouper!
Arvin, I love the way your home is coming together. I agree with you - I love that brass lamp and I like the sconce, but the two of them together isn't working as well as it should. I would change out the sconce for something softer. I love that the sconce is articulated - that will be super-helpful in the space and will allow you to use the light to focus (and refocus) attention on items or tasks as needed. I would definitely try to find a fabric sconce or even a natural fiber shade - something softer and more organic as the brass lamp has always been one of my favorite pieces of yours. You want that lamp to sing.
Yes, keep the red appliance as it is, matching the modern spirit of your house and yes again for changing the day bed golden tissu
Love what you do! Beautiful pieces of furniture, lamps, rugs, cushions etc. Actually, I saw your lightbrown/beige/butteryellow cushion in your last video, the one on your blue daybed and right away I knew that it was the color I was looking for for my website! Yes, clearly interior design can inspire other areas of creativity! Thanks for the inspo!
I loooove the mustard fabric for that room - it goes well with the rich brass and blue velvet armchairs.
I understand how the metals together are bugging you. I just now saw this and it's been 4 months - we'll see what you came up with. My two cents: the sconce is sheer art emerging from the wall. I would not remove it. If anything, I would look for fabric shades and actually "manufacture" something. This takes time. So while working on the fabric shade, I would move the brass floor lamp to the opposite side of the room. It's all GORGEOUS, Arvin. I love your taste, can't say that enough. Huggies!
Why did I think ‘Pharell William’ when you had that hat on , it really suited you 🥰, I adore your living room sconce 😳🥰, you have great taste , Andrew is so sweet & clearly loves you very much 🙏🏻🇬🇧xxxxx
Softer shade - yes. That hat was really cool on you. I liked it!
You missed seeing your decor and books but Arvin...I MISSED SEEING YOU DANCE!!!!! Thank you for making my day!!! You slay!!!!!!🕺
Totally agree with changing the lamps it provides more interest please tell me what those arrangements are on your cabinet OBSESSED❤❤❤❤
Thanks for sharing your journey, it is not easy and you are doing your best! You still have a life to live, so take it easy! You are a such darling and makes me smile every time look at your video ❤
Love the red lamp. It's the blues in the room that are throwing me off. I trust you'll play with the space to make it perfection.
I would also practice a little restrain on top of that fabulous amazing shelf. Maybe just leave the GUCCI bag to the right. Remove everything else. Sometimes less is more. By doing this you accentuate the horizontal lines of the beautiful shelf and would look even more elevated and contained. More of a cleaner modern vibe.
BTW! I love love love how your beautiful home is coming along!
Ok, nobody asked but I love it all! It just keeps getting better & better! The articulating MCM sconce is beyond words, that said I agree 100% w/ your later observations on placement & etc. It was visually encroaching/competing & somewhat cancelling out all the other carefully curated wonderful pcs.
Great score on those vintage finds/gorgeous books! Kudo's x2; 1st. doing it one lamp at a time, imo, this is how truly good design evolves! 2nd; speaking to the naysayers (they're so petty & more often than not, ill informed)! Thank you for sharing & inspiring...
Oh my gosh - its a process especially when you love vintage, I have waited 2 years to fill an area in my home or 3 years with wires hanging out of my door for the perfect door bell. People that dont get that - shop at Target or World Cost Plus for furniture!
You are good boo! ❤
.
The wire rant that segue’s to sassy dance: chefs kiss! 🤌 ❤
That vintage red wall lamp has a lot of character. I love it! I think the red pairs perfectly with the gold and blue upholstery. But I hear what you’re saying about wanting a balance of textures! It’s fun seeing how everything is coming together. It takes time to create a home.
Arvin you have the BEST lighting of anyone! I love all of it.
Collecting lamps has become a passion :)
@@ArvinOlano beautiful lighting is like jewellery 😍. I love seeing the evolution of your home and your style. By the way you can totally pull off any fashion, that hat included.
Yay! Another video! I look forward to seeing what the future holds for you and Andrew.
Love how your lounge area is coming along, the light looks wonderful. I’m glad you decided to go with the office how you work easy and comfortable & not the conventional setup look.
You usually do things so fast, I am so glad I are doing one at a time. The pop of color with the scones is fire
Yassss Andrew in the house ! Love this!
12:34 “bishh you are nothing” SENT ME 😂😂😂😂☠️☠️☠️ i replayed that a dozen times !!
Aww just watched the rest of the video-thank you for filling in your RUclips fam, much support! Ps always love a wild phone filmed blog mash up if that’s in the cards 😉
dyingggg lol
@@ArvinOlano I need you to chop that down into a short so I can keep it 😆
Def need a short of that!!! He said it with so much FEELING, too… 🤣🤣🤣
Arvin! You’re my spirit animal! The outfits, the dance moves and the butter colors! You’re a damn statement! 🧈
Stick with the red sconce. It’s spectacular!
Hey Arvin, you look so happy and full of positive energy. So nice to see you again. I love the space and I think that a small brown painting above the mustard daybed would balance the sconce nicely.
Thanks! We’ve missed you also!
Can’t wIt to hear about the “photo shoot!”
The lamps belong together. The new fabric on the daybed will really change everything.
Love from Canada
I love you’re new lamp. Simple and sophisticated, yet it speaks volumes. Love the room 😍
Ok, I may need your striped rug. I’ve been looking for one exactly like that.
And I’m so glad you said that about the lamp. I do love it and you’re the one who lives there, so if you love it, keep it. BUT I was thinking you need something to soften it up and then you said it 🎉 Yay!
New improved SASSY Arvin! You're awesome.
I love the red lamp it’s very different with an edge. Interior decorating doesn’t need to be all soft all the time 😊
Alexander Calder! Love the sconce. Wherever it lands it will be a statement piece.
That Stilnovo sconce is just stunning! Everything is coming along so wonderfully. I really don't think of the brass standing lamp and the sconce as matchy-matchy at all, but I can also imagine one of those Domus teak wall lamps with a linen shade there. And I guess you could find another spot for the fab red sconce.
Congratulations on the move! I love your enthusiasm whenever you score a great find.
Making your husband do all the handy work while you direct and fret is the move. Love you guys.
I love it when I can see Andrew & to see your dance. 😄 I love old books as well. Take care Arvin. We only have so much energy.
Hi Arvin! I’ve missed you. If you are going to recover that daybed in one of the colours you showed us, I think you will need the pop of colour the sconce provides to punctuate your space. Your floor lamp is lovely, but it looks marooned. If you keep the sconce, are you putting anything else on the wall over the daybed? My eye is drawn to the significant expanse of dead wall between the two light sources. Perhaps a smaller, horizontal painting hung to the right of centre over the day bed would balance the sconce and floor lamp. You can achieve the softness you are seeking in the art piece, say, a water colour in the creams and beiges of your decor, or even something dark and moody. I would hang it, unframed. Just a thought.
Oh Arvin things are coming together so nicely! I love that everything you bring into your home has a story, and the pieces you have are so individually unique. Nothing looks matchy-matchy to me. In the living room I wouldn’t change the red sconce, it’s one-of-a-kind and functional. I LOVE the couch/settee, and its color, but you gotta be in love with the fabric. I feel like with the couch, pillows, blue chairs, and even the florals you have lots of softness, but if you wanted more maybe go for a cool tapestry above the couch 😉
In the new library/office, that bookcase is EVERYTHING, and all it needs is a couple of houseplants ☺️
Omg that sconce is freakin amazing!! I do see your point about conflict with the other lamp. I'm going to see if I can find a video about how you resolved the situation.
Aside from the home decor, I am absolutely loving your eyeglasses in this video. I don’t know if they’re new or if I just didn’t notice them before, but they are stunning on you!
I look at vessels in a whole new way because of you Arvin. Sometimes I will think Arvin would love this!
Nobody asked but I would actually love the articulating MCM sconce in the library 👏👏👏👏👏👏 and big beautiful art in the living room. Love your style and funk Arvin ❤️😉😘✌️
I agree that the sconce is begging to move to the library, as task lighting. The LR, instead, wants an oversized pendant light with fabric shade. Don’t mess up the ceiling with a hardwire fixture, though. Use a plug-in power source (or convert it) and swag the pendant lamp. Then it’s easy to move and reposition.
The roasts are a fave feature. I learn so much from them. Keep roasting everyone, yourself and subscribers included. Congrats on your Rugs USA Collection. It’s beautiful. Please pace yourself. It’s good you are so successful, but don’t feel pressured to work to exhaustion. You need a life outside of work, too, or you risk burning out like a comet. No, no, no. You are a star.
I’m feeling the mid century wall sconce with the decor. Looks very relaxing over there.
I love the books you bought. Beautiful! I do ikebana arrangements too, and the covers of the books you chose are lovely. As for your living room, there are many possibilities for improvements. You have a great start! I like the articulating lamp, but perhaps a larger shade would be better. Or, perhaps you could add a vertical rectangular picture to the right of the lamp, for height. Also, perhaps the wooden piece to the left of the sofa could be bigger and taller.
Hi Arvin. You are so feisty in this video. You had me in stitches! Your house is amazing! Love your style
Love the red sconce although I think if you spray paint it the same color as the tables it may tie in a bit better. Amazing job, you’re so talented and your passion 100% shows.
I totally disagree about painting!!!!! 🛑
Hi Arvin, I think you are spot on about the red wall lamp. It is distracting due to the color in that particular spot. I agree that something softer and fabric would probably look better. That is such a large wall, I think the scale of the articulating light is also part of what you are not as thrilled about. I am in love with the brass floor lamp just like you. Have you thought about using photoshop to try different looks before doing all that installation? My son is a wizard on photoshop and he helped me decide what I wanted to do with a fireplace wall. Right now it is wood so we tried it with different colors and even changed the brick to different stones to see what I thought. It was lots easier than painting the wood and finding out I really liked to wood the best. This is just a thought for you, but it does save a lot of extra labor and can give you a good visual of how something will look. Best of luck!
Arvin dance performance is ICONIC…..❤❤❤
Drooling over the day beds.
I love “your unique and fun personality” your style is awesome ~ take care my friend, have fun decorating…👏☮️🐾❤️💫
Guess who I just saw showcased in the Studio McGee Fall catalog?!? YOU! WOO HOO! Awesome & Congrats! ❤❤❤❤
“Look at this! They have so much good stuff!” *after only seeing two things you like*
So relatable lol
ahahah :P
Nobody asked, but you are a doll! The house looks great btw! Love everything about it! 😘
Love the red sconce with perhaps some artwork and a pop of red on your daybed, love the floor lamp but maybe in another part of the room, you are very inspiring.
Arvin ! I adore you and your design taste. Love the sconce but the balance is off. Mid century modern also focuses on low horizontal lines. By having the sconce so high up, it makes triangular lines that throw off the fabulous gold lamp and side desk. Lower it 8 inches or so, step back, and I promise you will see the balance pop up like magic. ❤️
I love the sconce and I don't think it's too matchy with your lamp. The day bed softens the area. Love it all!
The way Andrew calls you "Boo." I can't! You two are too cute, should be illegal!!
Arvin ❤ your content! The living room looks amazing! Could you please do a vid on best sofas for 2023?
Love love love the sconce! The pop of red really works. Also love your glasses ❤️🤸♀️🤸♀️👌
Love the vintage books, especially the Japanese ones! Nothing better than a library where you curl up with a stack of books and your pups ❤
Definitely add fabric, love the wall light with that touch of warmth 😊 and keep the other lamp for that masculine feel.
Your wire rant cut to your dance routine! Perfection!😘😂
OMG it was the dance for me,lol I love the shelves ❤️
The house is stunning all about the vintage pieces are my fave and u got moves more dance off
I think that's such a cool brass lamp! Never seen anything quite like it!
Yes we've noticed was looking for a post and watching older feed when suddenly at 17s You posted...happy you guys are doing Good was getting worried but Love ❤️ the changes and thanks for the Updates 🎉
more to come
Love that "wall sconce" but Since I was writing my comment you'd said you'd be changing the fabric on the chaise, so obviously that will seriously change the vibe >>but I'll make my decision now after
I love how it's turning up! the sconce looks amazing! but you have such great options with the fabric shade lamp and the bronze lamp, difficult to tell, I'd wait until the rest of the house is organized and settled and then start moving things around. And please, where did you get that writing desk!! what a jewel piece!! Another suggestion: try to use live greenery or fresh flowers in your vases instead of dried ones for feng shui purposes :)
you guys are doing a fantastic job!!
I think the lamps work perfectly together. Looks very chic.
The wall sconce is fine. Very unique. Love those Japanese books. Anxious to see what you going to do with the atrium which is my favorite area.
I love the sconce. I think it’s organic shape is in perfect contrast with the lamp.
The lamps are both so cool . I want that floor lamp .
Love watching you
I believe if you have a grounding piece of neutral fabric art on the wall to tie both of your wonderful pieces. Could be two. Yay though. If I had to choose between the two, I would pick the standing lamp
I think a day bed is an interesting piece in a room but not as the main character for seating. Not so comfortable for sitting. I like it more in place where you might take a nap on it. Thanks for the videos. I enjoy watching your style evolve. Keep sharing.
I just adore you AO. You are just the most fun (and the house looks amazing!).
Finally, an Arvin dance!!! Been missing them.
The sconce is awesome. I think what's missing is a fabulous piece of art work on the wall to tie the floor lamp and sconce together so that it tells more of a story.
Bravo. Love the sconce but I love the other direction you are thinking, look forward to seeing what you decide. I am going to check out Vintage in LA I live in the desert 1.5 hours from LA. I appreciate watching your thought process -its helpful for me. I just bought a Spanish modern home and desperately looking for few vintage pieces . Thanks for continuing to post.
