    It was the final World Weightlifting Championships of the 20th century and the lifting was every bit as impressive as befits a milestone competition, replete with a bunch of world records. In the supers, three top heavies, in a large field of name brand lifters, were full of surprises. Weller bombed out, but Qatar’s Salem Saeed Jaber (Yanni Marchokov), 118.86 bw (262 lb.), snatched 190, 200 and 205 kg for first place on bodyweight. Hossein Rezazadeh (Iran), just starting his march to dominance over the next seven years, snatched a world record 206 kg, but since this was before the days of the 1-kg rule, only 205 kg counted toward his total and he was second on bodyweight. Andrei Chemerkin (Russia) was fifth with 200 kg. In the clean and jerks, Jaber started with 240, Rezazadeh with 242.5, and Chemerkin with 245. After missing the jerk with 250, Jaber came back and nailed it, putting him in first overall at 455 kg. Rezazadeh cleaned 252.5 twice, but missed the jerk twice for a 447.5 total and third place. The really big man at 181.72 kg (400.6 lb.), Chemerkin, wasn’t finished yet. With two attempts left, he called for 257.5 for the overall win-and pulled it high enough but didn’t move fast enough to get under the bar, missing the clean miserably and falling backward awkwardly. However, he came back and made a sure, deliberate clean, blowing up the jerk as if it were a toy, and taking first at 457.5 kg, proving he was the top super in the world. Watch these three giants stalk their prey here and revel in some incredible lifting.

    Lovchev got served with a "conditional" suspension this past week due to a failed urine test at the 2015 worlds. He may have his brand new c/j and total w/r's taken away. It sure was exciting to watch that record lift!

    Now, I fully understand the seriousness of 200+ in snatch, or 250+ in C&J. But what does it look like comparing to Lasha's lifting? What's it going to be when he finally announces his retirement next year after Olympics 2024? Tchemerkin is as strong as bull, but Lasha's got all this they all lacked so far: beautiful technics and incredible physical and mental strenght. He's a perfect weightlifter. We're entitled we witness all his achievments.

    Chemerkin could have been so much more. His technique and his work ethic sucked. Everyone thought he was going to be the greatest super heavyweight ever. After that 96 Olympics he should have stepped up his training and become an even greater version of himself, but instead he just turned into an even fatter version of himself.

      Do you know the story? If so, please share, would be very interesting to listen to. Because I've heard from other elite russian lifters that Chemerkin was a tank in training, jerking 270+.

      @@ilyakoryavov3897 Unfortunately, the IWF changed the rules so that only lifts completed on the platform count toward medals. I'm with you. Championships SHOULD be awarded based on rumors of big training lifts.

    if my memory serves me, then according to the rules of the snatch, the bar should be lifted in one motion on outstretched arms, pounding on the floor is considered the second movement. Imo Rezazadeh 2:25 4:05 made no valid attempt in snatch. Judges just sleepin there

    • @madworld109
      @madworld109 3 года назад +3

      Rezazadeh was a snatch expert, there's nothing wrong with his lifts, and if there was he wouldn't have made them. The only rule in weightlifting is that there can be no press out, and the bar has to be caught with fully locked out arms in the snatch and the jerk. His stomp comes from him dropping down quickly into the squat from the full extension, sending the bar up, nothing wrong there. Technically his lifts are flawless
