Did you know that Chopin borrowed a part of his Fantasie Impromptu theme from Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata? If you listen to the third movement and jump to the cadenza right before the final coda you will notice the similarity! Though, in Beethoven this fragment serves an entirely different purpose, namely as a search and finding back to the piece. In Chopin it is part of the main subject and to be played in a flamboyant manner!
Chopin's "Fantasie Impromptu" is arguably one of Chopin's most famous, if not *the* most famous composition. It was one of those pieces that got me into classical piano and ignited my ambition to become a professional pianist. Well, that was around 10 years ago when I was 14 years old. I remember reading the sheet music for the first time and being absolutely confused by the polyrhythm used. Like how are you supposed to play 4 notes in the right hand and 3 in the left?! Lol 😂
Chopin had a gift of writing music that sounds really difficult but falls really nicely under the hands. Once you have figured out which fingerings to use and which motions correspond to the intended phrasings it suddenly all makes much more sense. This doesn't mean that this piece is easy to play but it really is much easier than the common perception of people. If you study it carefully not only will your piano chops get on another level - you will also learn a lot about how Chopin is building great melodic material by outlining the harmonies used with arpeggios and approaching tones. And some chromatics of course!
Have you ever played this piece or is it still on your bucket list? Let me know in the comments below!
Have a nice day and see you soon again ☺
    Your pianist Magnus ✨

Love this piece! Doubt I would consider learning it however. For chopin, I learned his nocturne not too long ago and I'm working on his second scherzo now. Keep up the good work!
