  • @MNGirl

    This was super helpful! I'm a female with a tenor range so I end up singing in the lower octave of my range a lot, especially if I'm singing with women, who typically sing an octave above me. I have a strong chest voice in my lower range but I can tell I run out of steam and it's harder to stay on pitch later in the song when melody lines often jump higher. So tip #3 that you gave is something that I'll keep in mind. I can tell when I'm off pitch but it's hard to correct it mid-song, especially when singing with others. Thankfully I think most people are listening to the women with actual female ranges work their magic in the upper octaves that me singing lower but slightly off pitch isn't as noticeable🙈😆 But it's definitely noticeable when I'm singing solo so this is still something I clearly need to work on. Great tips, Jeremie!😄

    • @kingwillie206
      @kingwillie206 4 года назад +1

      You might be a soprano. If you are try practicing your mixed voice on those higher parts.

    • @MNGirl
      @MNGirl 4 года назад

      @@kingwillie206 I definitely need to learn and get comfortable using my mix, but I don't think I'm anything close to a soprano (as much as I wish I were😂). If I warm up and sing first thing in the morning I can sing on F#2 (like the F# below low C), later in the day I can sing on G#2, and my chest voice tops out about 2 octaves above that. I'm clearly no expert but I think I would need a higher chest range to be anything close to a soprano (or even an alto for that matter🙈). What do you think?

    • @kingwillie206
      @kingwillie206 4 года назад +3

      MN Girl - Range isn’t everything, but you could be onto something there. Most men switch to head voice from G4-A4. I know I do, but that doesn’t automatically mean that our voice qualities or singable ranges are the same. I would be extremely careful with labeling yourself before you have been pushed to your limits by a really good coach. You would be an excellent candidate for the voice critique they are offering. My concern is that you might be much more capable than you believe you are.

    • @MNGirl
      @MNGirl 4 года назад

      @@kingwillie206 Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. I obviously don't know what your voice sounds like, nor do I have the confidence to post a public video on RUclips of me singing😂 So I'm not sure how our voices compare, even if we have very similar range. I actually did do a one time lesson with one of Tara's coaches last month. She did really push me to help me figure out where my chest range limits are, but then after that she was teaching me the beginnings of how to sing in mix and we never got to test my head voice range. Probably because I was asking too many questions so we ran out of time😆 So even though it was super helpful meeting with her, I don't think that one lesson answered my question of if I'm really a tenor or not. When I was in a few church musicals all the way back in high school the choir director heard me sing, lumped me in with the tenors, and from that point on I've been singing with the men note for note, so who knows??

    • @MNGirl
      @MNGirl 4 года назад

      @@kingwillie206 Ok, I posted a couple videos to my channel of me singing in my lower range. I'm not a professional singer and don't claim to have a good voice, but if you have a minute to listen to one of the clips, I'd love to hear what you think as far as my voice classification...

    Hi Ms. Tara, would you give us a special episode about how to get rid of our vocal strain when singing? I think I ever heard some tips in your other video, but I still don't get it.
    I'm a choir singer (as bass) and when I did my placement test, my coach told me that actually, I can do a higher note and get in tenor position. The thing is, when I tried to do the higher note, I got tense (especially my tongue) or so my coach told me.
    But sometimes I just couldn't feel the strain and feel totally fine. I feel it will super beneficial if I can get into tenor (with proper technique) but I think it's more important to sing with no strain. Thanks a lot!

I recomend her song, "One By One" becauses in it, she actually sang and played her instrument at least double speed and the audio was slowed down to get the effects of the video. It'd be awesome to see Tara and Jeremie react to Jeremy Jordan's version of Sondheim's "Losing My Mind" - I mean, it's Sondheim so like yeah it's already going to be technically and musically demanding. Also, who gave Jeremy Jordan permission to rip our collective hearts out?
    ruclips.net/video/CoZVxPTvGp4/видео.html
    But regarding the topic of correcting flat singing, the traps in this song would be the descending melody lines to those lower notes. And of course, accidentals sprinkled around and the modulation in the climax.
    I'd love to hear what you guys have to say about his performance. Also would love to have more people join me in a good cry after watching this video.
    After taking your SSNH course and watching videos like this, it's great to attempt songs again that I thought could have never done before and actually pull them off this time around.
