  • This video is not so much of a “How to” but more of a “How I Did It”. I did do some research on the best methods, which I will link below. I also communicated with more knowledgeable folks on Reddit (thanks Spiceydog and others). While editing this video I realized there are many steps I didn’t follow to a “T”, but it’s a great improvement over my past plantings. I hope to use this video to gain even more knowledge from comments. Please comment if you see something that can be improved on for next time
    Time stamps (in case you want to jump ahead):

    3:45 - Preparing the hole
    3:58 - Checking flare height (want it slightly above ground)
    4:47 - Backfilling
    6:12 - Adding mulch

    This tree deserves a bigger and deeper hole, it likes deep soils

      @@weekendhomeprojects Ok but can you increase depth again please...lol i'm joking. I'm going to dig one in south of France, it would take one cubic meter, pff....

      @@weekendhomeprojects The same as you : Liriodendron tulipifera . In France we have a certain number, smaller than in US, like this one for example

    How has it done in the heat? We’re in Tennessee also and just purchased one this size today!

      @weekendhomeprojects  4 года назад +1

      Some of the leaves have turned yellow, but it’s still hanging on. Watering it every other day during this heat / drought.

      The unHandyman thanks for that! Wondered with them being native if we’d need to worry about that. Our yard is long and narrow and I probably couldn’t reach the back half with a hose. Sounds like this one is going a little bit closer to the house. Great video! Super helpful.

    How far from house foundation a tulip tree should be? I have a small front yard (roughly 25 feet) and I am worried the tree root will damage my house years later.

    • @weekendhomeprojects
      @weekendhomeprojects  3 года назад +1

      I planted it even with the one that was already in my yard…about 25 ft. away. I planted another on the other side of my house about 21 feet away. The roots do go deep and can spread out 40’…soo…yeah that may be a problem 20-30 years down the road with the two new ones. Sooner with the older one. Once it gets wide enough for the roots to get near the foundation I may have to dig down, check for roots and prune them if needed.

      @@weekendhomeprojects Thank you. As much as I like Tulip trees, I will have to pass. My front yard is only 25 feet long to the pavement and I don’t want the root to crack the pavement either.

      Months with an “r” in it. But best time is late fall. That way summer doesn’t cause a new tree even more issues with blistering hot days.

    where did you find one that small? how much did you pay for it?

    • @weekendhomeprojects
      @weekendhomeprojects  4 года назад +1

      I've been looking for one for years. The 3 closest nurseries near my house don't ever have them. One finally did, so I took what I could get. I paid $50.

    • @weekendhomeprojects
      @weekendhomeprojects  3 года назад

      I just realized a month ago that one of my nurseries allows you to order them. I ordered two new ones and they arrived to their store in 2-3 weeks. They are in much better shape as the one in this video. New videos coming soon.
