    Man i wish i had a complete parts list so i can copy this engine,i have an 84 d150 with slant six and its a dream of mine to have my engine sounding like this,such a unique solid engine.ive always wanted a cammed out engine.id like to install a cut out and a 40 series original flow so i can go from loud to little quieter when i feel like it.

      best thing is to cut the deck to get compression up! this block is cut .140" and bored .060" over!

      Hey,i meant to tell you sooner thanks for responding and i cant wait to build my slant,ill do what you said to get compression up,foaming at the mouth to get it done but money issue at this time.

      I have an 84- heres the link ruclips.net/video/5AEOwQpWpP8/видео.html . When keeping the hydraulic lifters the preset on the lifters has to be set with custom push rods. 340 lifters will pump up over 4,000 rpm or 65 psi. even with 340 valve springs..010-,020' preload is all you can run

    Where did you get or how did you do the oil pump pick up

    • @terrylittlejohn
      @terrylittlejohn  Год назад

      made it, i found that the -12 an line help restriction on the suction side! just welded a treaded bung in the oil pump cover. used a large flat file to level the cover after welding! the oil pan just welded a 1/2in treaded pipe into a stock pickup screen! i did upgrade to a swing pickup later!

      @terrylittlejohn  Год назад

      @@frankpeletz1818 yes ! it has to be on the same side that the inside pickup tube is on, also you have to plug the tread hole where the internal pickup was screwed in!

      I just used a 7018 rod, it did start leaking again so i use green slime style water/block sealer and it stopped . haven`t taken it apart to inspect it. the oil pump cover I use the same 7018 rod and weld a npt female fitting, the new one has a weld on -an 12 steel bung weld to it.

    What is your approx comp. ratio? Did you use custom pistons? I'm considering a unlblown slant six in a land speed racing application. Wondering how much hp a 170 would make with high compression, good cam, big valve ported head, etc.?

    What did you use for welding up the # 6ex port . High nickel rod?also what did use for the oil pickup and how is the connection to the pump cover working?

      I used 7018 rod to weld the port, I did start to leak so I used some green slime head sealer and it stopped. never disassembled the head after too check. the pump pickup works great oil pressure more stable at rpms looking at the gauge!

    I'm sorta resurrecting an old post, but, is this a 198 or 225? I had a 198 in a 71 duster that was absolutely bulletproof, you could run without oil and not kill it...btw, great work

    • @terrylittlejohn
      @terrylittlejohn  5 лет назад

      that`s ok, this is a 225cid , hard finding 198cid here in newfoundland. could make a long rod 225 if you change the crank and use 2.2l pistons.

    it`s a comp cams .540lift 256degs@.050 , i had that mp cam year ago on the street it was a nice cam, it needed a higher stall converter than stock.i remember running it to 5500rpms with good 340 springs.

    use you stock oil pump and touch up the edges of the cam gear with emery stone or cloth,to smooth the edges. also you should check slantsix . org they have good tips on positive oiling for the cam and pump gear with some oil pump modification

  • @terrylittlejohn
    @terrylittlejohn  12 лет назад

    on this engine the comp is 11.4/1, i used badger pn244 .060 over. the blown motor in the race car is 7.8/1 comp with seal power pn244 .080 over, these are a better pistons. if you are doing a 170 the comp is high from the start, i think there close to 10/1, the engblder stainless valve on ebay will be nice there 1.70int and 1.44ex they will clear stock bore engines for a good price.if you try to increase comp have the block deck milled instead of the head you will make more power.

    wow thanks! just what i wanted to know! i have 340 springs and a ATI Breakaway converter (i hope that stalls high enough 2200-2400 for a small block) and 5500 was my planed red line. perfect!!
