The Laowa 14mm f4 FF RL Zero-D has a 52mm thread for filters which is pretty great for such a wide lens. In my tests I didn't notice any distortion, or at least any that made me want to correct, as with such a wide lens any type of movement in filming will look wide and slightly funky, but that's only normal for such a focal length. The bottom line is that it doesn't have the fish-eye look and can be used in professional projects. It's very light, very compact and basically a lens I can highly recommend on your camera for drone work, architecture work, interiors and if you have the need - your Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas type look. Have fun!

Wow yet again. Footage was amazing. What a beautiful place where you live. 😍👍👍👍
Thank You Paul! Yes, it’s quite interesting around here 🔥
Man, this glass is tiny and yet so sharp! Just amazing!
I was surprised myself, it's almost pancake 😂 Super sharp!
HAHAHAHA best line: "for everyone that thought I only fly the mini 2 suck on this RUclips" I love the comments people leave, shows they really don't know a lot sometimes. Great video. I have been wanting to get my hands on this lens to try... Laowa has been putting out some great lenses for the last few years!
haha I thought I’d slide that one in there 😂 I love some of the comments too, they make my day! Laowa has been dropping incredible lenses, the probe makes me weak at the knees 😍
Thanks! I might get one as I need a wide angle lens for sure
This one is absolutely beautiful!! Well worth having in the kit bag 🔥
That absolutely looked fantastic indeed, great video!
Thank You! Yes, totally awesome lens!
Dope is the word! Matrice 600 Mothership! You could launch Mini 2 drones off that thing (Insta360 One X2 providing multi-viewpoints)! Great video with that 14mm glass. Forgot how much fun it is shooting super wides. Another great review!
…waiting for your movie 🎥 🍿👀
haha, that's what we have planned 😂😂 Shooting this wide is a ton of fun, especially when the glass is so crispy. Thanks Thomas!
That’s a pretty amazing lens! I love my canon 10-18mm but this thing is next level! Awesome video as always bro!
This thing is off the charts! I still can't believe how it has no distortion, it blew me away!
Great video ...as always👍
Thank You!
wow the image you get with this lens is really awesome! I have sigma 24mm 1.4 and really love the perspective! but the 14mm is something else and looks really cool! should get one in the future! Nice video as always dude!
I use the 16-35GM and the 24GM and both are great, but I agree with you, the image with this is just incredible, love the perspective! Thanks Mehran!
this is realy nice stuff for architecture !
Yes, very nice!!
Super video 👏👍
Thank You!
Dope review, as always 😍🙏🏻
Thank You Ayan!
Oh you fly also big guns 😀 Nice music nice lens 👏
haha, yes I do! The lens is great, so clean 👌🏻
Lovely little lens :-) your sensor on that Sony needs a clean!
It’s stunning! haha yes I know! I cleaned it a few days before, but whilst changing lenses out and about in the wind it got crap in it again 🤦🏻♂️😂
Thank you, Philip! I have been thinking about the Tamron 17-28mm. My widest lens as of today is the Sony 24mm f1.4 GM
I’ve heard it’s a good one! This is excellent, I use the 16-35mm GM as my YT table lens. The 24mm GM is great too, will put it up against the 24mm f1.8 Viltrox soon, pretty awesome budget lens!
@@PhillipSkraba That’d be great! I’m gonna look into this Laowa 14mm as well, though f4 wouldn’t be my favorite when it comes to low light.
If you're on a Sony it's not the end of the world, it does quite a good job actually. Sure, a f1.4 would be better, but I'm guessing that would cost more than the drone 😂
@@PhillipSkraba Lol! You are absolutely right 🤣 Yep I’m on Sony a7iii and a6300
I have the Tamron and it’s absolutely brilliant. Can only recommend it! :) Also great for some Astro photography because of the wide aperture... that’s more difficult with f4 ;)
I just realized I should subscribe to this channel...
But it appears I'm already subscribed :p
hahaha, dammit! Well, that’s good news and good news. Thanks for being here 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Wow! This looks gooood! I love my wide shots! :D I would not use it on people from really close because of how wide it is, but other than that... looks fantastic. And yes, no distortion! Man, that's a lot of focus gears! Haha! :))
It’s crazy on people and has its uses, but sure on establishing shots, interiors, car shots, architecture, it’s great! Oh I just bought all of the ones Tilta had 😂 They are excellent!
@@PhillipSkraba Yeah, true! Like I said, I really like wide shots in film, so I tend to film a lot like that. But I could really go wider than 17mm on my BMPCC 6k that I use now. Yes, I also bought a few from tilta, but not all. Haha 😂
haha you go get all of them!!!
@@PhillipSkraba Let me just buy a lens or two first! :))
Sweeeeeeeet
Thanks John!
Thanks for this review! Did you try some wide angle "macros" with this? Did you check out the new dsrl version?
I got in pretty close, but I prefer it for architecture shots.
This lens looks fantastic. Do you continue to use it after these past 3 months ?
I love Laowa, and their metal body lenses. I bought the 50mm macro 2.8 for my Lumix... 2:1 ultra macro. No flares. Never. And soooo damn sharp.
It's a manual lens, as usual, but the aperture is controlled from the body, because the lens has electronic contacts. That means you can get and keep all the metadatas. Important informations for photographers, maybe less for videographers. However, I hope all their next lenses will be equipped with it too.
Great review !
This is an excellent lens I still borrow every now and then from Laowa. I also really like their lenses, the 100mm macro is my favourite, awesome lens! I'd love to own the probe lens, it's the craziest one I've tried. Right now I'm testing out the Nisi 15mm f4, pretty cool too!
Great video man.👍
How is the vignetting? Corner sharpness pretty decent ? Was going to get the Sony 14mm f1.8, but this might suit my needs as I want to primary use it for landscape...🤔📸
Thank You Alfred! It's actually not that bad at all. When it comes to sharpness I was actually blown away, straight from f4 it seems crazy sharp, I think for landscapes it would be stunning. It's a tiny lens, so great for travel, that's for sure!
@@PhillipSkraba thanks again foe the input. I’m now your newest subscriber 👍😬
Have you had any experience with the Voigtlander 15mm f5.6? These two seems to be direct competitors.
Welcome to the channel! No, I'm afraid I haven't, however I'm extremely happy with the quality of the Laowa 14mm, I don't know how it could get better.
Thanks a lot, bro! I contacted rode support, The problem has been solved! The problem was safety channel on. That's why It happened. May Allah reward u with goodness.
That’s awesome! So simple, the safety channel! Good to know 👌🏻
thx for the review, in my opinion don't like the all present start and the blue fringe. What other options I could have in same size-price?
The Nisi 15mm f4 for example, it's a very nice lens!
@@PhillipSkraba Nice mtf chart but no EF old nikon mount. I want it to my s5 also for my pocket 4k or future 6k Pro
No adapters around? I have a ton of adapters for all my vintage lenses but all to Sony mount.
@@PhillipSkraba no adapters from FE mount to EF- or L mount, They are only mirrorless mounts on the Nisi. For the Laowa was better option the nikon as it came with f-stop control. But as I finish my research, its a not good wide lens. Good maybe, but not good enough.
For its price it’s not bad. Shame about that. I like using the Nisi, very clean lens.
I am facing a problem. When I am shooting with gopro hero 9 by rode wireless go 2 (one tx), I am only getting sound from my left headphone. There is a little sound in right. What Can I do?
I'd try another cable first.
@@PhillipSkraba tired different cables. but the same problem I am facing again.
That is odd, drop Rode an email and ask them if they can help.
you are hilarious
You should see me when I’m telling a joke.
❤️👍
Thanks!
U ar the best Phillip
Oh that’s too kind.
Phillip: You have any secrets for getting ND filters on and off quickly...that permanently attached metal lens hood is driving me nuts. I'm almost to the point of wanting to get a friend (who does precision work) to cut the damn thing down. It's tough for quick changing of filters and I don't think a variable ND will even fit. Otherwise, a wonderful lens.
Sure! Freewell magnetic filters! That’s how I roll, I haven’t dropped a video on them yet, but I will do soon and I love them to bits for practicality, quality and speed 🔥
@@PhillipSkraba Be curious about vignetting using a magnetic system. I've got the Xume system on some of my other lenses, but it doesn't fit on this lens. Look forward to seeing if the Freewell will. Thanks!
It’s quite similar to the Xume! It’s worth testing out, I have 82mm versions.
@@PhillipSkraba Ah, so you'll use some kind of step down ring, maybe. Well, good luck and keep us posted!
@@PhillipSkraba Any luck using those 82mm Freewells on the Laowa 14mm? I"m on the verge of having that metal lens hood sawed off:-)
What is this humming sound?
The drone.
Funny, but I don't think so XD all the spoken parts have humming sounds underneath
Ohh, those parts! Don’t get me started!!!! 🤦🏻♂️ Macbook Pro fans 😭
what is the secret sauce? AI controlled CAD..?
No idea! They have some serious lens scientists over there at Laowa that are on top of their game 🧬
