@@aaronmehaffey6251 Yup. The problem of this movie is came out at the same era of Dances With Wolves, Legends of The Fall, Unforgiven, Maverick, The Last Mohican and Tombstone. On it's own it's quite entertaining with not so heavy storyline. But within the era of western revivalist? It bound to be judged unfairly.
This movie is so damn entertaining, with the coolest gunslingers ever, it just doesn't matter how ridiculously silly and over the top it is. Sam Raimi (the director) is a genius!
Let me see... I see Pat Hingle and Mark Boone Jr from the movies. Are you counting Keith David for his role as Despero in "Batman: The Brave and the Bold"? Or did I miss somebody else?
I like small details when Herod was introduced as the main villain. He steps inside with fires burning in a red and black background, giving the impression he is the devil coming from hell. His boots are heavy, wind blows into the lady's face and you hear dogs barking as he enters, so the entire scene becomes uneasy and unquiet when he comes in. People in his way immediately back off with a scared look on their faces and the entire bar that was bustling with a rowdy people suddenly goes quiet, meaning they all fear and respect the guy like hell. As his face is revealed, you hear rifles being cocked giving a hint of danger and menace.
One thing that I always pondered… At 2:43, you see Virgil is a seriously wanted man. When he introduces himself at 2:58, why didn’t anybody capture him? This scene alone has so many background noises, props, etc that you always find/hear more with each watch 💪
I'm also convinced that everyone in the town was deaf and had to do lip reading to understand what the other person was saying. Ain't no way you fire that many pistols in a closed off room without it messing up your hearing.
Herod was obviously determined to fight Cort. Just to be sure whether or not he's met his match. & force him into the contest so that he would not mistake him for a coward, Not because he swore an oath or something not to fight.
@brettsoyars4341 One could argue that once the chair is collapsed, it's a slow, choking death for Cort, which gives time for Herrod to do what the Lady did. You could interpret Herrod's disappointment as not being "in charge of everything!" You could also interpret it as him having to face someone he's actually scared of. Hence everything being done to lower Cort's capacity to fight a fair fight.
@@kextrz Up to and including what he has Ratsy do to Cort the night before their fight and forcing him to fight Ellen by changing the rules and making it so that they can't drop out anymore. He stacks all the odds in his favor, but only one man's hands were shaking as that clock ticked down.

One of the best movies ever made...., and I am 65..., seen a lot of movies. 🥰
Such incredible work from Sam M. Raimi, both qualitatively and quantitatively, to then be ignored by audience and critics alike.
My bet is he didnt grease the right people
I admire Raimi's commitment to stylism here. The story's pretty pedestrian on its own. It's the way Raimi tells it that make it fun to watch.

One of the best western movies ever made in the film! 🎥 🎞️
Outside the film too!
I don’t even think it’s top 25 🤷♂️
Love how we eventually get 3 characters from 3 different batman sagas all in this scene 😍

It’s like a trained writer wrote the script and trained director filmed it. Crazy.

Been lookin for this scene. Thank you.
My first western that I ever saw
Roofing contractors must have been busy in that town.

A masterpiece
Gene Hackman had such a presence in this movie.
Every time he was on screen it was tense.
Best western ever
Gene hekman, crowe marvelous
I think Gene Hackmans character was afraid of Russel Crowe’s

Woman lead in a western. Im not ready for that.
It's 2023. You should have been ready for that many years ago.

Man this from the 90’s ya got like 20-30 years to get ready for that
Probably don't like a black lead in Django Unchained either do ya?
1995. You had at least 28 years to be ready.
