I kind of just realised the reason why he says "This is where I get off" is because he put you inside a train at the beginning of the game. The way the white door opens helps this fact.
I like the subtext there about the influence Freeman has in the story. He's being railroaded into doing exactly what GMan wants with no agency over the larger story, which is also reflected in the linear game design. And only in like Ep2 does the design become more open-ended with the car, just as Gordon breaks away from GMan's plan. But ultimately, GMan is still the one running the show and there's only one ending to that story.

The "time" dialogue would honestly be the biggest intro to an E3 in history, I've no idea why valve doesn't want to make HL3, would probably be one of the biggest selling video games ever, even if it were shit.
HL1 and 2 both had big leaps in technology, first one had pretty advanced enemies and generally really good shooting mechanics. 2 obviously had crazy physics for the time. They have to package the story well, otherwise it might just be a bland shooter.

There is something so awfully sorrowful about how G-Man says "this is where I get off." It's almost like a recognition of the death of an era, the endlessly foreboding farewell that leaves a lingering taste in your mouth; something foul yet sweet at the same time. There is something so haunting about old games and media, its as if when the story is over and the credits roll, each one of those places we see and play through are just stuck in stasis - only coming back when we revisit them in person or through our memories.
Id like to thank Gaben and the whole staff of Valve for this phenomenal game right here on this youtube section. I come here from time to time just to reminisce.
