    Omg, my dad makes it every year, I hate it even though I love figs in general!🤣🤣🙈 We live in Dalmatia, that is on the coast of Croatia 🇭🇷 and fig here’s also a traditional fruit and everything from it… my relatives from USA take kilos and kilos of dried figs with them when they go back home in the end of summer! Lots of love to beautiful Turkey 💖💖

      For my birthday last year my kids cooked me a Turkish breakfast, and the only fig jam we could find in Vancouver (Canada), was a small, expensive jar from your country! It tasted exactly like the fig jam I remember from my childhood in South Africa 🇿🇦🌷

    Today it is my turn to give you a tip: 😀 the way to peel a fig, is to take the little stem (where it was attached to the branch), and peel the skin down from the top. (like peelling a banana). This is what we do in South Africa anyway when we cook fig jam. Your jam must taste amazing, I can see the figs are superb quality. 🌷

      Hi Susan! Thank you so much for the tip. 😊 They also told me that. But probably Bey case if the ripeness I couldn’t do it in most of it. When I asked my relative she said not every type opens like that 🙋🏻‍♀️ 🌺

  • @carmenpeters728

    During this time or year I begin to preserve foods that I would like to have during the winter. One of the foods is strawberry jam. It's is kept in the freezer. I am wondering why pectin is not used in making Turkish jam and jellies. Pectin makes it thicker. The difference, as you having lived in the US probably know, between jam and jelly is that jam has large chunks of fruit. Jelly is made from the juice of the fruit. Turkish jam looks very much like the jam one finds in England and the US. There are large chunk of fruit, but it's juicy. I don't even know where to begin to find rose geranium for cooking here. Which is a shame. What I like about your recipes is the authenticity. And the cooking technique is often different from western cooking but makes a lot of sense to me.

    • @TFT
      @TFT  3 года назад

      Hi Carmen, thank you for your lovely thoughts. Yes I don’t know why but we don’t even have pectin on the markets. Not sure where you can get rose geranium but from older comments I got many comments that they own it. If you find someone make sure to get a piece from the branches. It is not hard to grow it

      @@TFT You can peel and grate an apple, cook it with the jam. . apples have pectin. Pears have more pectin but they are 'gritty'. Rose geranium is not used here as a food. So it has a pesticide. Not safe to eat. It has to be 'food grade.' more likely I'll find it in an extract like vanilla. but I imagine the fresh plant gives it a green taste too.
