  • Silver is all about stacking what you love and find interesting BUT there is kinds of silver out there you should avoid due to its high premium or difficult reselling.

I’m filling one tube with War Nickels simply for historical reasons. I don’t go looking for the 40% Kennedy Halves, but I also don’t toss em aside when I find em. If I get any 1/10 rounds, they’re going in penny presses. I have some Geiger Fractional Bars and a Scottsdale Fractional Bar just to say I have some.
I do stack the 1/2oz Canada $2 First Special Service Force Coin. Mainly just because I like the design.
But, I agree that Constitutional is the best Fractional.

Im all about junk silver. But mostly rosie dimes. Best weight buy for you dollar in the junk realm. Junk silver will be the first that is gone or well extremely expensive to find. I do have some of all forms of junk but those dimes are the best for least wear. Plus i love free silver. Been coin roll hunting for years. Sold all my 40% kennedys ive found this year. Got close to $200 and set that aside in my silver cash pile and will see if prices drop some in next couple months. Last year i waited all year to buy any silver until early oct and was getting junk for $16 fv. Year before was pretty much same. So far this year havent bought since prices rose and will stack cash and see if prices drop by end of summer again.

I disagree wholeheartedly on the war nickels. I have almost a couple thousand of them. If things ever get so bad that barter is the norm, they will come in extremely handy. A 90% dime has 1/14 oz. of silver, but a war nickel has 1/18 oz. So, a smaller piece of silver than even a dime. There's nothing difficult about explaining war nickels. Either it has a big mintmark above the Monticello building or it doesn't. End of explanation. As far as 40% halves go, I have a few tubes of them but I won't waste much time or space on them. All this said, I have vastly more 90% than either of those. I have run across a scenario where I got a bunch of one gram silver pieces basically at melt, so I couldn't pass up that deal. To each his own, I say. Collect what you like and seize opportunities when they arise.

I personally avoid Washington Quarters because there's not much going for them other than specific dates and mint marks. If you wanna stack fractional silver, dimes are the way to go, especially if you're on a budget being that they're not far off from spot. Beware of Canadian dimes and quarters that might get mixed in with American coins. Canadian non-silver coins don't have the copper edges like clad American coins, as Canadian coins have a steel core, thereby being magnetic. So, what might appear to be a silver dime in a roll might be a recent Canadian dime.

I don't own any fractional silver. I even now avoid 1 ounce bars and rounds. I have some fractional gold Valcambi bars but now avoiding those as well. To many chances of encountering tungsten with gold plating (same density, volume, and weight as gold). I will keep those bars and rounds, but they will be the first to go and i will only sell them back to about the only online broker that i trust. My focus now is on junk 90% silver (US only) and pre 1933 gold (US only). It kind of all boils down to this. Most people (not collectors or stackers) just don't recognize silver rounds and bars. They probably wouldn't even recognize a modern silver eagle. You would be too young to remember this but during the gas wars in the late 70's, a lot of gas stations made people wait hours to get gas with a credit card or paper dollars (long lines a mile or more long), but the ones that got express gas were the ones ones that brought pre 65 quarters! If you find a good local coin shop, you are fortunate. There is a great one fairly near me (about 60 miles each way) that is very fair and has been in business for over 40 years. Sorry for the long response :( Good hunting!

your problem (no offence) is you only buy from online bullion dealers or your lcs. I buy from auctions like hi bid. in the last few months I have won war nickels for 35 cents each, 1 gram silver bars for 55 cents each and last night I won a pcgs pr69 dcam 2020 end of ww2 $25 gold 1/2 ounce gold coin for $1181.50 all the prices I just gave you included the shipping and buyers fee's. I know some will say I do not know what I am talking about or I am full of it. The only reason I tell others what and how I buy on auctions is I am getting old and I like to help younger stackers. I have stacked and coin collected since 1967. I switch to more auctions in the 1990's when teletrade started. Today there are so many online auctions, I limit myself to 2 dozen a month. And as far as selling you can sell on Ebay where you can set your starting price. I do sell on Ebay, and I still buy on online auctions but for me stacking is now just a game to keep me sharp (my mind) and is no longer about store of wealth, or for the future as I am old and have plenty. I think you and I have talked about auctions before and you can definitely get some great deals!
