I work at a Fed ex ground where we handle the box's from truck to truck, any animals or plants I handle with the up most care but everyone else just throws the box's in, it slams onto a belt and speeds up a slide slides down the slide hitting another belt where someone grabs it and throws it in a truck, or Reach's the end of the belt and has to do it all over again. But I try my best to make it easy on them
This is very true, only I work in imports, so I never see a live animal shipment, but people are rough with packages, to those who ship live animals make sure you carefully pack and make sure the animal is well secure, you can't trust these package handlers sometimes.
Recently found your channel, and I'm so glad I did. I think it's great and the care and commitment you put into these animals is astounding. From what I see you have a wonderful career ahead of you and I hope you make a big impact in the field.
They’re both fantastic, but that fish scale gecko is really gorgeous! 😍 Two wonderful additions; can’t wait to see little babies from each down the road!
Geez I‘m really early this time! 😍 Just wanted to send you plenty of love from germany! I love what you do and you are a huuuge Inspiration for me 🐍 Just finished my Abitur and I‘m considering becoming a vet and specializing on reptiles, I just love how you educate people about reptiles and show them what amazing creatures they are! 💕🎁
Wow, both lizards looks stunning. Great video, and good luck on the future breeding projects! Can't wait to see if you get little baby fish scales in a few months!
amazing geckos and great vid its hard for me to find reptile shops in foster city and you have inspired me when Im older to create my own reptile room.
I dont know how i havent seen your channel before but im excited to see what else is to come. I also got excited to see youre in texas like me. We're the same age but im goin to ASU
I hope your mourning gecko is doing well. I bought one at an expo a few weeks ago, but she's so tiny that I'm keeping her in a fruit fly cup for the time being. Eventually I want to place her with my small dart frogs. I remember seeing these tiny geckos when I was stationed in Guam and have wanted one since.
Great Video Bro!!! I actually thought the iguana was real at first. Also. I would defiantly recommend getting a Red Footed Tortoise or a Sulcata since I have a Red Foot and it would be the perfect addition to your room
The pricetag is so high because as far as I know they're pretty uncommon outside Hawaii - I have a species of centipede in my area that fetches $120, but that doesn't stop everyone from killing them. Worth the money in my book
Makes sense, I know that animals are a touchy situation when it comes to Hawaii so importing and exporting is a challenge as well. Also, thanks for responding!
Nicely done videos, a pleasure to watch. What are the large plants in the “grow out” tanks for fish scale and mourning geckos? Really nice looking tanks!!!
Thanks, you'll see them in an upcoming tour of my room! Big plant in the fishscale tank is a variety of snake plant, big plant in the mourning tank is a bird's nest fern. There are a few other ferns/mosses in there but I couldn't tell you them off the top of my head
Right here! It’s a bit pricey, I got my first on Craigslist and ended up buying my second in-store. Haven’t set it up yet but I’ll need it in the future. www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-77-in-W-x-78-in-H-x-24-in-D-Steel-Garage-Storage-Shelving-Unit-ERZ782478W-4/202251082
Toxic Dutch I had thought geckos were a sub-classification under lizards, seeing as that there aren’t any species that are just ‘lizards’. Therefore, the concept of a lizard would be redundant if geckos weren’t also considered lizards.
Love Ronald! I’ve gotten 3 of my cave geckos from him as well as my gargoyle gecko! I absolutely love them and he is a great guy! I will be breeding the cave geckos within a year.
I have like 6 of those morning geckos and love them all when I found out that they all were females I knew I had to have them all.😍😍 They were going to be fed to a shake but I didn't know if you could do that so I offered to take them all.
hey love your videos but please include roach warnings haha! i love all your other reptiles and what nots. I'm tots down to skip to parts without roaches if you drop the skip time in the description box. I also live in Texas love hearing all the local in tell.
I announce when it's creepy crawly time in my room tours but haven't in my other vids - I usually avoid including them unless the video is focused on them
when you edit with HitFilm Express, do you buy and use any of the add-on packs? I am trying to become a reptile RUclipsr and vlogger myself and want to be like you
I haven't spent any money on it, strictly the free, basic features. The intro title shot I did in a free trial of Adobe Aftereffects, but the rest of the intro and my videos are all done on Hitfilm.
That one in particular houses my western banded gecko, which most breeders house exclusively on sand! The substrate is ZooMed’s desert white reptisand and it passes through his system with no issues. He’ll be in my next room tour.
First of all, those fish scaled geckos are absolutely beautiful. Secondly, when do you expect to get eggs and eventually juveniles from your new lizards? Also, do fish scaled geckos have similar requirements as day geckos?
Exact same care as day geckos, just nocturnal - so lights aren’t a necessity. I’ve got a video out on my setup. Eggs will happen eventually, I couldn’t predict exactly when!
AfroHerpkeeper Hey Daniel. Whenever you wanna get started on that, let me know. I'd be more than glad to help you make the tank. Foam background, hardscape. Shoot me an email if you're interested. I can send you some pics of my setups. juansdca619@gmail.com Oh btw, zookeeper has been getting a nice supply of blue jeans. I'm looking to get some along with a couple of mourning geckos like yours. Awesome videos man.
I saw those the other day - I'm actually already partnering with an enclosure company for that tank, but I'm down for that sometime! I have a couple desert setups I'm looking to put together and a few snakes that could use vivariums.
AfroHerpkeeper Nice. Can't wait to see that enclosure. But yeah man let me know when you'd be interested in some more vivs. Dave knows the type of work that I do. He's actually got a few of my tanks in the store. They don't look the same as when I had them though. Haha. I'm in some of the Austin herp groups on FB. I've posted some stuff there too.
Left to right it's a three-toed box turtle, a Texas river cooter, and a red-eared slider. First two were found in the wilderness, third was part of a university collection
I keep mourning geckos and i just want to warn you Dan that they are escape artist ,one of mine was able to squeeze throw the lid of an exo terra but lucky for me i found his ass in time lol
Even though you got your mourning gecko from a very high quality seller, I believe that you should of bought her from a different site that breeds mourning geckos for a cheaper price. That is just my opinion, and I love your videos regardless.
Hey I have been watching awhile and I really liked your fossil hunting video and I was wondering if you believe in anyway some how a dinosaur still might walk this earth I know stupid question but wanted to know your true thoughts on it.
All birds are technically therapod dinosaurs - and birds, reptiles, and dinosaurs all fall under the classification of Eureptilia. In many ways we still live in an age of dinosaurs, but mammals have become the dominant megafauna. As for traditional dinos, we almost certainly would've found evidence of them by now. Just look for the saurian characteristics in modern birds!
I breed crested geckos. You might want to get a male for your female. They breed very well and the females lay clutches of two eggs around every month.
Great pickups! Love the Hawaiian locale, have a group myself. Curious what success you'll have breeding with only one. Though they're parthenogenic, they do reproduce via pseudo copulation. I've heard of fairly limited success keeping single females, please keep us updated as I am very curious!!
AfroHerpkeeper A good trick is bamboo hollows. Give her plenty of those and it will entice laying as well as making the eggs easy to remove for hatching separately. I'd offer to send one or two your way, but I don't have any similar sized to her at the moment. You should consider keeping a group once you've grown out some of the offspring. Their social behaviors and hiarchy establishment especially are quite something! Another trick (if you don't mind my unsolicited advice) is to add a bit of bee pollen to her food. I find this tends to make them produce more clutches for whatever reason. Very excited to see someone else working with these neat little geckos!
Am i the only one that thinks there should be a special live transport for stuff like this, just so nobody ever has to worry about plants and animals gettin messed up
I'm not super familiar with mourning geckos, but are there several varieties? I've never actually seen a mourning gecko going for anywhere near as high as $100.
Great video! Geckos are my favorite reptiles. I'm really happy that I have my baby leopard gecko! Will you consider making another video on breeding your animals? I think it's really interesting to see the different animals that people breed.

Awesome!!! Thank you! Love your videos, especially any how-to's and any videos you do with a specific animal. I'm looking forward to your next room tour
I STILL can't get over your intro!!! It sounds like the intro of a T.V Show on Animal Planet!!
Right
I work at a Fed ex ground where we handle the box's from truck to truck, any animals or plants I handle with the up most care but everyone else just throws the box's in, it slams onto a belt and speeds up a slide slides down the slide hitting another belt where someone grabs it and throws it in a truck, or Reach's the end of the belt and has to do it all over again.

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 good on you👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🙌🏼
This is why shipping animals is unethical and anyone that does it should be criticised.
God bless

As much as I like learning about reptiles , I watch these videos mostly just to hear him explain and admire it Lmao 🤷🏽♀️
Recently found your channel, and I'm so glad I did. I think it's great and the care and commitment you put into these animals is astounding. From what I see you have a wonderful career ahead of you and I hope you make a big impact in the field.

Nice new additions. I like to get back to reptile keeping again.
amazing geckos and great vid its hard for me to find reptile shops in foster city and you have inspired me when Im older to create my own reptile room.
Am I the only one who get a Jurassic World/Park feeling with the Mourning Gecko? Lol
So cool, love your videos
😁
Awesome new additions, I wish you good luck breeding them.
I dont know how i havent seen your channel before but im excited to see what else is to come. I also got excited to see youre in texas like me. We're the same age but im goin to ASU
Hey man, you should get a P.O. box so your fans can send you stuff 📬
the afro gets me every time

I live in Hawaii and see those geckos all the time... just never knew that they were so valued and quite unique in the way they reproduce
The pricetag is so high because as far as I know they're pretty uncommon outside Hawaii - I have a species of centipede in my area that fetches $120, but that doesn't stop everyone from killing them. Worth the money in my book

L. lugubris are awesome. I found a ton in O'ahu last year.
hey! no crappy music! Love your presentation!
Love the vids keep them going!
Brandon’s Reef same
Great video those lizards look aweeeesome good luck with that breeding hope it goes well
Yes my life would be a bit of a mess if I had a rattlesnake on a stick!

Have you thought about a millipede breeding project?
When I have more tubs, I could be tempted to try with some flat-backed pedes... I like centipedes quite a bit as well
AfroHerpkeeper OMG yes lol
I love those geckos. My mourning would only lay in groups. It seemed like my single females just wouldn't lay near as much.
I aspire to develop like this
I'm currently focusing on setting up New Caledonian breeding projects but I'd love to branch out to different speices
Just subscribed. Greetings from Portugal. Love the channel
Daniel, what rack are you using behind you with the Breeding boxes and Exo Terra terrariums?
Right here! It’s a bit pricey, I got my first on Craigslist and ended up buying my second in-store. Haven’t set it up yet but I’ll need it in the future.

Amazing Quality of a vid!!
Does anyone know where he buys his reptiles?? Or if you don’t live in the US (Canada) where is the best place to buy reptiles?
Where did u get fish scale geckos from??
when you edit with HitFilm Express, do you buy and use any of the add-on packs? I am trying to become a reptile RUclipsr and vlogger myself and want to be like you

be interesting to put an arduino in side it to see rec the g forces
Are the fish scale geckos being kept in a 12x12x18 exo Terra? Just curious how many can be kept in a tank that big if that is indeed the size.
I've got a pair in there - wouldn't want to crowd them more than that. So far they're doing great!
Do you know how to tell the different sex of fire belly toads.
i was looking at your gecko tanks, what is your substrate at the bottom? it looks like sand.
That one in particular houses my western banded gecko, which most breeders house exclusively on sand! The substrate is ZooMed’s desert white reptisand and it passes through his system with no issues. He’ll be in my next room tour.
AfroHerpkeeper nice, I wasn’t trying to sound like the impaction guy😂😂 can’t wait for the vid

Mourning geckos go great in vivaria with dart frogs, ever thought about it? :)
100%. I’m looking at the possibility of a Costa Rica themed viv with strawberry darts, glass frogs, and mournings.
AfroHerpkeeper that sounds beautiful
AfroHerpkeeper

Hey man did you get those giant cave roaches up and running I'm looking to buy some .
They turned out to be death's head roaches, but I totally did. There's a link to the supplier in that unboxing video!
I live in texas also. And i would love to buy some fish scaled geckos if you breed them.
ayy that's lit fam!
Could you please tell me where you got your invertebrates from thank you for your hard work.
Links are in the description of the invert unboxing video.
Oh ok thank you for everthing you do to keep all your animals well and safe you inspire me to do mano things.

Awesome vid
I have three morning geckos and 4 eggs from them and I hope that I can breed a few more.

Hobby Lobby, haha - it was on sale! $6 well spent
Nice
If you ever come to Ohio, let me know and I can take you to the Columbus Zoo since I work their or we can go herping or something bro
Twenty forth and proud. Love the content!
The three people that disliked were drunk and thought it meant dis I like
do you know if he breeds steppe runners??
Cool
What type of turtles did those shells come from?
Left to right it's a three-toed box turtle, a Texas river cooter, and a red-eared slider. First two were found in the wilderness, third was part of a university collection
AfroHerpkeeper thanks
I have a question for you
I keep mourning geckos and i just want to warn you Dan that they are escape artist ,one of mine was able to squeeze throw the lid of an exo terra but lucky for me i found his ass in time lol
Duly noted, no problems yet
すごい、羨ましいです😆👍✨

AfroHerpkeeper thanks for the respond I think they might still be out some were in this world
How about getting your old animals back?
Everybody's back except my day geckos at this point - my friend's had a lot of success with breeding them and he's keeping all but one pair of adults.
I breed crested geckos. You might want to get a male for your female. They breed very well and the females lay clutches of two eggs around every month.
My mourning gecko costed less than $30. But it is a nice looking gecko.
Great pickups! Love the Hawaiian locale, have a group myself. Curious what success you'll have breeding with only one. Though they're parthenogenic, they do reproduce via pseudo copulation. I've heard of fairly limited success keeping single females, please keep us updated as I am very curious!!
We will definitely see. She’ll have plenty of food and calcium to produce eggs if she’s willing

😁 would be funny if idubbbz got your package
When is the reptile room tour coming out. Not tryna be rude jw
Sooner than you expect
AfroHerpkeeper thx man appreciate it
liked the video and cool animal
How are you ever going to find that tiny gecko?
It makes itself known - shows up on the front panel of glass at night, disappears completely during the day.
Andrew Nelson There are five different locales. They usually go for around $50, but the Hawaiians specifically can be as high as $100.
Big City Bettas That makes sense. :) Thanks.
Andrew Nelson No worries! They're a wonderful little species, I have a trio myself.
Big City Bettas, have you seen the Australian locale before? They run for even more than a high end Hawaiian.
AfroHerpkeeper I've heard of them, but haven't actually seen any for sale or spoke to anyone who has experience with them. You?
Cute!!!
Ты прекрасен!:)
Okey but whats in the preserve jars
Rough green snake, gold dust day geckos, and Texas banded geckos. All passed due to causes beyond my control
I am surprised he is not playing fortnote 😀😀
I better get the first babies
BAAAEE Lol😍🙈🙈
Goldy-lox herpkeeper lol
Great video! Geckos are my favorite reptiles. I'm really happy that I have my baby leopard gecko! Will you consider making another video on breeding your animals? I think it's really interesting to see the different animals that people breed.
I’ve got a lot of invertebrate cultures and my lizard projects are only going to grow from here - don’t worry!
Awesome!
How did they not die? Doesn’t look like enough air for them
Uhhlaneuh it’s over night shipping
Uhhlaneuh and there’s holes
Hey afro do you know anywhere that i could get a african fat failed gecko? Ive been looking for a female for a quite while
Heyyy💜
🦎awsome geckos🦎
I will be looking more into mourning geckos now, what an interesting species.
I was wondering why you didn't quarentine them, especially with the fish scale going in with the one you had.
It would definitely have been a good precaution. The guy I received them from has had them in captivity for long enough to deem them outwardly healthy, but I wouldn’t know if they’ve received any parasite treatments. Any babies will definitely be housed separately!
Why do you get wild caught
What's in the glass jars?
Wet specimens of animals that passed away (all through circumstances beyond my control) - six geckos and a rough green snake, who was killed by a dog. I find it respectful to the animal to preserve it for use in educational programs, or just because they're fascinating
That's a really great idea, sorry for your losses though. I want to do that with my reptiles when they pass away, so if (heaven forbid) you have anymore pass away, would you please do a how-to video? I'd really appreciate it as a way to memorialize my geckos down the road. Thanks!
I already have one! If you do some digging on my channel you'll find it - it's pretty in-depth. I've got a relatively large water snake that I plan on preserving soon, I'll probably do a video on that one too. I've got maybe a dozen total right now.
Awesome!!! Thank you! Love your videos, especially any how-to's and any videos you do with a specific animal. I'm looking forward to your next room tour
Rainbow 🌈
I can't believe you paid $100 for a little tiny morning gecko those things are everywhere in Hawaii
Entirely worth it
