  • The Mercedes Benz C124 and the OVP, a constant ABS light, a failed Over Voltage Protection Relay on a C124 also affects the start up and driving too - we fixed this with a new relay, direct from Mercedes Benz.

    So I recently bought a 1988 300E as it’s one of my top 5 favourite Mercedes however one day I was driving the car and it just shut off at a red light, everyone I asked on forums said it would be the relay and so I found this video to figure out how to fix it and you have been a major help, keep doing the amazing job you’re doing to help us oldschool Mercedes lovers❤️

    Just fixed my W124 ABS! Thank you for this video, it pointed me to the OVP relay, so I removed it and tested - not working at all, not even clicking. Because Im used to fixing electronic stuff, I disassembled it and found broken solder joints on the pcb on the relay coil to pins... Multimeter made me sure that the relay is ok (80ohms directly on the coil, but > 1megaOhm on pins) so I resoldered the coil and about half of other solder joints, put the relay together, put it into car and... woala... no abs light anymore... Thank you again! :D

    I have a 1988 W124 230CE with a difficult first start. The first start every day is hard but if I fire it up 5 mins later it is fine. It drives perfectly normal with all it's power. The first start is my only problem. Also battery and alternator are fine? Could this be an issue? It can' t be injection cause it runs fine, right?

      also, i removed the ovp relay and the car wont start at all. The problem i have is it takes 6 or 7 cranks in the morning to get the car going, and when it does finally get going its really lumpy for a bit like not running on all cylinders then its ok after a min..

    I've just purchased an E260 (1989) and received a phone call from my partner saying the car has just shut off whilst driving on a freeway. She basically lost control of steering and the ability to break. The gentlemen that we purchased it off asked if we have a lot of keys on her keychain which she did so he asked her to remove those as they could be causing it. He said its not happened before and is happy to pay for any costs associated with this issue as we have had it for basically one day which his good of him. Long story short: have you heard of keys doing this as some sort of safety feature? I am suspecting it has something to do with the OVP after some googling. Bloody scary stuff for anyone involved with a car losing power/control.

    • @PlanetautoUK
      @PlanetautoUK  3 года назад +1

      It’s not the OVP ours ran for a month without one, and drove fine, it was a challenge to start and ticked over erratically - never heard of the key thing I’ve 5 keys and a fob on my bunch, the only way weight would do it is if if managed to turn they key - but a w124 ignition location would play to that- keep an eye on it.
