I wasted Saturday trying to figure it out myself...bad idea. Today, took me less than an hour to fix alllll due to this video! ty so much! Pops passed away so I've been learning so much from videos like this on how to maintain the house. truly appreciate you!!!!
Thank Mr. Conner for sharing this info.. I got a broken pipe and you just gave me some confidence that I can repair.. i love how you are such a perfectionist like me!!
It's basically a 'best of the internet' website, with upvotes and downvotes (like reddit). As you can see, you got 117.000 views and 2000 upvotes. 'Grasbaas' means something like 'The boss of grass'. www.dumpert.nl/mediabase/7428233/bc9eca67/de_grasbaas.html
Well done! I've found that putting a little extra PVC cement on the joints when doing that last critical connection, slows the cure enough to buy time to get everything in place. If you leave the joints a little dryer with cement, they will stick right away.
Ive never really been a fan of yard work. Just do it as quick as possible to get it done. But your enthusiasm and dedication is very motivating to get out there and put in alittle extra time. Awesome videos abd keep up the good work
All in all, a very good instructional video. Excellent mustache!! You make a few obscure references that 99% of the viewers won’t get, lol. I am ready to start digging. In Florida, we are all sand so it’s pretty easy going. Thanks.
learning curve for me on this sprinkler stuff which frankly Ive never wanted to be in the position of having to water a lawn esp in Cali. but, here I am.. knew there had to be a way to do a straight connection via glue job. Going to put in a compression T for sprinkler head for this one I'm doing. The only thing is would of been perfect if you could of elaborated on dream pipe a little more. I got it though when I went back and watched that part again. Have to check hardware for that pipe.
nice job buddy. Its a lot tougher when there are tree roots in hole. Im watching a bunch of videos and learning some cool tips on how to cut out roots without an axe.
Incredibly useful. I bought that small one on a super internet deal. After I got done putting it together, I realized that it was the smaller version and was pissed. I drove straight to Lowes and bought the bigger one. So now I have two of them.
i guess Im asking randomly but does anybody know of a way to get back into an Instagram account? I was dumb forgot my password. I would love any tips you can offer me.
Connor, I got you neat on this one! I was using my four wheel drive truck to pull bushes out of the ground along the side of our house and I ripped the water main out (roots!)... fun day, learned a lot real fast that day! Watching and Supporting, Dropping another LIKE on your video!
I was throwing down some milo last night and where my underground rain leaders exits to daylight has been overgrown with wonderful lush grass. I have a huge bubble of lawn from all the water. Once it stops raining I will clear the grass from the outlet and dig a hole and place some stone in this area.
so my sprinkler is leaking below riser under elbow joint but I cannot pinpoint the source of the leak! How would I find it or do I need to dig up my lawn and remove all sprinkler pipes or what?
putting that auto drain on that pipe will cause the pipe to drain out every time the zone shuts off. i never used one but i think they are only supposed to be used on main lines (lines that are pressurized all the time). if you live in a cold climate you cant forget to winterize
It is my favorite movie. That one and the original Jurassic Park. Oh and The Shawshank Redemption is really good as well. My wife got me that shirt after me telling her over the years that I wanted a Back To The Future shirt.
Sounds like we have similar movie tastes. Back to the Future is definitely one of my top 5. Just to let you know I started my own RUclips channel. I wanted to join this lawn care DIY community. Subscribe if you'd like. Let me know if you have any advice as well. Have great day and weekend!
How does that drain work? Does it just dribble at a constant rate whenever there's water in there, or does it only drain when water pressure is low, so when the sprinklers are off?
It leaks when there is low pressure. I have a sloped yard and install them every 10 feet per 1 ft drop. They work fantastic at draining the line. On the other side of things if you install check valves you don't need to install these and they save water in the lines for next time. It most likely depends on where you live. I live in the northeast so I need to blow my lines every year. If you lived in FL you probably never need to.
Help!! My daughter was walking to her car during a really bad thunderstorm and slipped on our green sprinkler system box in front yard. The lid flew off and she fell in all the way up to her thigh. One leg in, one leg out. Her foot came down on a pipe because water was spewing out of it and down our street. A neighbor was able to turn the water off but we need to get this fixed. We have a Rainbird e6c. What is an estimate for a repair like this? We aren't the original installers so unfamiliar with sprinkler systems. Are we talking hundreds or thousands to repair?
Conner, I enjoy your videos. Very well done. I live in northern Ohio, could I grow grass like yours here? I would imagine that a sprinkler system is a must when you cut grass that short. I cut about three acres and love to hit golf balls. Would love to have grass like yours but I could not sprinkle the whole area. Keep up the great work. Curious as to your profession. Are you in the landscaping business or a CEO?!
It's not always a good idea to add a sprinkler head. Each individual valve can only flow a certain GPM, if you try to feed to many sprinkler heads/rotors off of one valve then they will not function properly.
That is so funny to hear you say that. We just can not win. Seems like whatever we have something else seems just a little better. FL in the winter? I need to try that.
The world would be a better place if more people worked in the dirt. It's good for the soul and probably or health. ( As long as you use organic fertilizers 😀)
Southeastern Michigan here. Same for me. Nice bright green spots on my dark KBG. I'm doing the Round-up now and reseed in the fall plan. Sucks I have to look at it all summer.
Usually between 40-60 psi is what I’ve been finding for the state. Anything less and your system won’t operate properly resulting in low flow and shortened water throw.
Hey Connor. Great videos! Unbelievable lawn! I see that you had your wife turn on the sprinklers for you. This isn't a plug or anything but I recently installed a smart water timer call Rachio. It's a smart timer that syncs with the local weather so it'll automatically make adjustments depending on the current conditions. It's all controlled with your phone so you can runs tests, set up your watering schedule, or turn the sprinklers on your kids while they are playing in the yard. I love mine. They'd probably even give you a free one if you made a video of installing it. In California, I even got a $100 rebate from the water company so it was cheaper that the old regular timers. Check it out! (Once again, I have no affiliation with Rachio, just love mine)
They're only $200 or so for 16 zones and $150 for 8 zones. Best money I ever spend on the yard. I use it all the time when I'm doing yard work and landscaping. You'll wonder how you lived without it. I'm sure they would HAPPILY send you whatever you want for free just for mentioning them. Rachio is the best reviewed product on Amazon that I've ever seen. 85% give it 5 stars. Skydrop is a similar Utah company. Rachio is out of Colorado.
Connor Ward I personally don't use it on irrigation lines bc I'm trying to water the ground anyways and it's more efficient to water roots directly but this is what I use. I've done a lot home repair and it's useful for plumbing though. I use dope for brass fittings and this for pvc. www.pvcfittingsonline.com/christy-s-ultra-seal-pipe-thread-sealant-1-4-pint.html
You can't just add a sprinkler head... a properly designed zone would be close to maximum flow for the water source. Adding a head will cause the pressure to drop some degree, and gear rotors depend on higher pressure to get water stream breakup. All that said, you can nozzle down the existing heads, which reduces their flow (and requires longer run time to achieve similar amount of water) and then add your head with a reduced nozzle and you'll maintain pressure. I see you used Rain Bird which IMO are the best gear rotors. You might need to review the nozzles on all the heads and reduce them. Note that full circle need bigger nozzles then half circle pattern ones! Good luck man.
I knew going into the adding of the sprinkler head that it could compromise the rest of the zone via the pressure. I figured that if it was a problem I could just cap the line. I have yet to see if it had a negative impact because I just found out last night that I have another head in that zone that is broken. Once I fix it I will know. I am pretty sure it will be just fine.
Hah! Do your own research. Absolutely LOVE my poly and funny pipe irrigation system. No more primer and glue. No more brittle pipes, no more surpryser geysers or other annual repairs.
I think there are people in both camps. The folks that installed my system are pro pvc for big systems. I am sticking with pvc for this property mostly because I want it all the same but if I do another property I will likely use poly.
This one if for the 1" and I have some 1" pipe but I was repairing a 3/4" pipe in the video. www.sprinklerwarehouse.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=9864
If you use a bit of teflon tape on the threads of your screw-in fitting, you will avoid the leak which required additional tightening. Also - heat up the flex tube slightly with a plumbers torch, and it will slip on to the fitting like butter; it will cool and form a super-tight seal to the fitting.
I personally like the old style that just pop up and spray and that do not spray more than like 12 ft or so. They put down a lot of water fast. I have a big yard so I have rotors which I do not like at all. I think a good in between are the Hunter MP Rotators. I have a few zones with those being used.
Ask Rachio and Skydrop to each send you one of their smart irrigation controllers and do a review/comparison. You'd absolutely love them and they'd love you. You can control any zone from wherever you are with your phone app. Check them out.
You broke a rule!........again!!You had your wife help you. Shame, shame....on you. Ha ha.... love your video. By the way, how come you didn't use teflon tape on the drain and sprinkler fitting. That works awesome to stop leakage. Also, when you put the gravel back into the hole, take a small plastic garbage bag On top of that gravel then cover that with the dirt. That helps keep the dirt from filtering down through the gravel and give it the water a chance do drain out in through the gravel and not the dirt. Otherwise the water would not drain as quickly in the fall or when you turn the water pressure off to your sprinkler system.
That is a great tip with the plastic on top of the gravel. I will definitely be doing that in the future. I have never used Teflon tape. I did not really think that it was really that necessary on a sprinkler system. We are talking about watering the whole area so I figure that a drip here and there is not really going to make a big difference. I just crank them down tight.
I used to install sprinkler systems in southern California and this helped getting a good seal on the threads. Hand tight is no problem if your using teflon tape. Otherwise you could crack the plastic inside you're fitting and that's a pisser to fix.
You shouldn't use PVC pipe for your speibkler system. It isnt the greatest pipes in the world. It will brake naturally over the years in the soil. Rather go and buy some black PVC pipes. It is stronger and more flexible
I wasted Saturday trying to figure it out myself...bad idea. Today, took me less than an hour to fix alllll due to this video! ty so much!

lol
Thank Mr. Conner for sharing this info.. I got a broken pipe and you just gave me some confidence that I can repair.. i love how you are such a perfectionist like me!!
I discovered you on a Dutch website, I don't share your passion for gardening - at all - but I find watching your video's very enjoyable.
I love the MLB. Cool. Thanks for watching. I am curious as to why I was on a Dutch website. Care to share?

It is super easy.

I love your Charlie brown name.... Well done
Nicely done sir! And no pisser-offers. Nothing but clay soil here in the deep south!
That really is a beautiful yard you got. 🤩
Hello Connor. Thank you for the excellent video
learning curve for me on this sprinkler stuff which frankly Ive never wanted to be in the position of having to water a lawn esp in Cali. but, here I am.. knew there had to be a way to do a straight connection via glue job. nice job buddy. Its a lot tougher when there are tree roots in hole. Im watching a bunch of videos and learning some cool tips on how to cut out roots without an axe.
I just bought one of those Gorilla Carts myself. Like it so far.
Incredibly useful. I bought that small one on a super internet deal. After I got done putting it together, I realized that it was the smaller version and was pissed. I drove straight to Lowes and bought the bigger one. So now I have two of them.
Any chance you'd do a quick compare (600 vs 1200) Gorilla Cart review? Thanks much
i guess Im asking randomly but does anybody know of a way to get back into an Instagram account?
I was dumb forgot my password. I would love any tips you can offer me.
@Issac Kylo Instablaster =)
Loved the shout out to Taryl Dactyl..Guys a total goofball but knows his stuff.
Yeah his videos are very informative if you tinker with small engines. I like his vids.
LOL, I love the name!
You make a dreadful fix seem like an enjoyable game. Man you're one awesome Yankee fan.
I do love the Yankees. All Rise... here comes the Judge.
The Primer Softens The PVC. A PVC Connection Done Properly Should Be More Of A Plastic Weld Rather Than A Glued Joint.
Hey, Connor Ward. I really enjoy your videos. Nicely done, sir.
Thanks 👍
Connor, I got you neat on this one! I was using my four wheel drive truck to pull bushes out of the ground along the side of our house and I ripped the water main out (roots!)... fun day, learned a lot real fast that day! Watching and Supporting, Dropping another LIKE on your video!

Great Video Connor! You’re the man!
Love this. Super informative!
Thank you, super informative!
Very helpful thanks
Nice video - thanks!
Flippin amazing!

Once it stops raining I will clear the grass from the outlet and dig a hole and place some stone in this area.
You should always twist it at least 45 degrees so that the cement and primer are activated.
Can you explain the irrigation head and why you installed it and how it works please?
I love how he has to keep cutting the video because he goes on tangents. Lol. Im the same way.
Gotta love that Utah clay I suffer from the same problem here in West Jordan Utah. Great work love the channel.
so my sprinkler is leaking below riser under elbow joint but I cannot pinpoint the source of the leak! How would I find it or do I need to dig up my lawn and remove all sprinkler pipes or what?
Use heat to loosen the pipe it will slide right in and set on the ribs of the fittings. Also never push so hard on pvc it can crack easy.
That’s a beautiful environment there. Canada?
Nice job!
putting that auto drain on that pipe will cause the pipe to drain out every time the zone shuts off. i never used one but i think they are only supposed to be used on main lines (lines that are pressurized all the time). if you live in a cold climate you cant forget to winterize
Painful watching you dig up that beautiful grass. Here's to a speedy recovery perfect lawn haha
Ooooh, dangit! No signs of pisser-offers in this video!
Not as good but we did get a “Are you freakin kidding me!?! There you go pal!” And “Dangit Dang It Dangit!”
1:55
5:45
6:10
7:01
MAJOR pisser offer the 90 degree would have been!
Man I love that Doc Brown shirt! 1.21 gigawatts! Where can I get that? You make great videos! You got a great sense of humor.
It is my favorite movie. That one and the original Jurassic Park. Oh and The Shawshank Redemption is really good as well. My wife got me that shirt after me telling her over the years that I wanted a Back To The Future shirt.

Try out a PVC Slip Fix Fitting. It might be a bit easier next time.
ah ha.. I sure will look it up..
for the best bond go with yellow-purple-blue ftw, cleaner -> primer -> hot lava pvc glue
Good job Conner call before you dig lol!
Why didn’t you use pvc all the way to the sprinkler head? Is the hose a better way to install sprinkler systems?
thanks for the vid. this is exactly what happened to me
That stache is boss
Tell my wife that.
How does that drain work? Does it just dribble at a constant rate whenever there's water in there, or does it only drain when water pressure is low, so when the sprinklers are off?

I'd love some of that clay in my yard. I live near the beach in FL and we have nothing but sand :(
That is so funny to hear you say that. We just can not win. Seems like whatever we have something else seems just a little better. FL in the winter? I need to try that.
you may want to relocate that tree right beside the pipe before it grow too big and too deep
Species dependent, of course.
Previous owners planted Carolina Poplars in our back yard = 100 yards of roots!
Huge pet peeve of mine...
The world would be a better place if more people worked in the dirt. It's good for the soul and probably or health. ( As long as you use organic fertilizers 😀)
Aye aye I love like 30 minuets away from Milwaukee
Any suggestions for poa triv.... it’s taken over most of my front yard
No solution other than round up or digging it out.
Southeastern Michigan here. Same for me. Nice bright green spots on my dark KBG. I'm doing the Round-up now and reseed in the fall plan. Sucks I have to look at it all summer.
Same here. Lime green spots
What is that long coupling used at about 5.05'?
Seems like some 3/4" pvc?
Is there a link to that or just buy some 3/4" pvc?
You can no longer get those. It's called a "pipe dream" repair fitting
Sorry for the double post, but how much water pressure do you run. Thank you.
I do not know actually. I am on a well so whatever that is set to. I would like to know actually.
Usually between 40-60 psi is what I’ve been finding for the state. Anything less and your system won’t operate properly resulting in low flow and shortened water throw.

Normally when using threaded connections, I have always been told, to use Teflon tape. Is that unnecessary for sprinkler pipe connections?
Migr8or www.lascofittings.com/threads
This is useful.. It says to use a sealant for threaded joints. What sealant? I have not heard of a sealant for threaded joints.
Dang, after all that, we didn't get to see it sprinkle!
Hey Connor, what’s your watering schedule look like? And how much do you water at a time
I am going to do a video on that hopefully sooner rather than later.
Awesome thanks
You can't just add a sprinkler head... a properly designed zone would be close to maximum flow for the water source. Adding a head will cause the pressure to drop some degree, and gear rotors depend on higher pressure to get water stream breakup. good stuff... :)
I would have moved the tree, since there is a good chance once the roots get bigger, it may break the pipe.
Just enough of theater. Good !
(Insert meme: I should buy a boat) I should make a secret stash of sand and soil @8:11
Ha ha. That is actually grass clippings on the top of clay soil that I removed from some flower beds. The sand pile stash is somewhere else.
They do make clear primer and glue.
Yes.
Would you by and large say PVC is preferable over Poly for those of us considering to install a new sprinkler system?
Yes PVC is better
I use schedule 40 PVC with funny pipe connections to the spray bodies.
Awesome repair video. But I gotta know...did you Teflon tape the black elbow??? :-)
No. Not required per spec. They actually say not to use it
If a piece came off it would clog a sprinkler in a hurry!
Got a link for the sleeve?
This one if for the 1" and I have some 1" pipe but I was repairing a 3/4" pipe in the video. www.sprinklerwarehouse.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=9864
Link is dead. Search their site and can't find it. Help please.
Teflon tape would have prevented the leak on the sprinkler fitting over tightening it can cause cracks.
Don’t use drains, your wasting water every time you fill that pipe. Just winterize or blow your system out in the winter
He looks like Rollie Fingers from the Oakland Athletics player
Beautiful grass ! What variety?
Kentucky Bluegrass. Ohhhh yeah
If you use a bit of teflon tape on the threads of your screw-in fitting, you will avoid the leak which required additional tightening. Also - heat up the flex tube slightly with a plumbers torch, and it will slip on to the fitting like butter; it will cool and form a super-tight seal to the fitting.
That is one sexy wagon you got there...
Yes it is. Incredibly useful
You look like Jeremy Roenick.
Just noticed your shirt 1.21 GIGAWATS! That's awesome!
Doc Brown. Love it
Hello…. It’s me….
You need to patent the term "Pisser-Offers"
I think a slip fix and the Tee would of been cheaper and easier. IMO
Great video!!
What sprinklers are your favourites? I'm about to install sprinklers, and need some good advice!
Thanks a lot!
I personally like the old style that just pop up and spray and that do not spray more than like 12 ft or so. They put down a lot of water fast. I have a big yard so I have rotors which I do not like at all. I think a good in between are the Hunter MP Rotators. I have a few zones with those being used.
Connor Ward Thanks!!
Ask Rachio and Skydrop to each send you one of their smart irrigation controllers and do a review/comparison.
You'd absolutely love them and they'd love you. You can control any zone from wherever you are with your phone app.
Check them out.
I asked rachio. They offered $100 off. I was wanting 100% off
Why am I watching another man playing with pipes??
That maple tree will break your pipe in a few years.
Yeah I figured that would happen
#nopisseroffers
Your tree is planted too close to your fence and not a good idea to put a head by a tree,
I'm going to move the trees when they are dormant. Early spring
You broke a rule!........again!!You had your wife help you. Shame, shame....on you. Ha ha.... love your video. By the way, how come you didn't use teflon tape on the drain and sprinkler fitting. Poly has poor flow characteristics.
