Mash-up two ideas that don’t go together. What would a kraken be doing in a cave? Maybe it's got a deep cavern with a huge underground lake connected to the ocean, & the kraken comes there to sleep or spawn. Maybe there's an open portal to the polar ice cap, so polar bears roam this ruined temple in the desert.
I have a friend who'd roll story cubes to get inspired. She said it was impossible to create an idea from scratch but a lot easier once you had something to work with. And if the idea sounds non-sensical, it just means you haven't found the right interpretation yet
Make lists of ideas. If you need several, make a big list by separating it into a few categories. Write down all the most obvious ideas, then finish out the list(s) with more creative stuff now that you’ve got the juices flowing. The categories act as restrictions that stimulate different kinds of ideas.
Creative blocks are created by beavers 🦫 These rodents love to block up flow with their dams. Your creativity is blocked because you keep thinking about beavers 🦫 when you should be breaking the dam.
Stuck? Purposefully write the worst most cliched simplistic ideas you can come up with for 10 minutes. Congratulations you wrote for 10 minutes! Now look back over what you wrote and maybe there is one part that you think you might be able to improve and use. If not then continue on the path of only writing simplistic cliched ideas like a REAL HOLLYWOOD WRITER.
