In addition to the Without Number series, Kevin Crawford's Scarlet Heroes also features a set of very robust sandbox tables and framework both for solo players and GMs. A much less known (and seriously overlooked) work is Book of Lost Tables by Joseph Bloch. This tome is primarily designed for Adventures Dark and Deep (a 1e clone) , but many of the (non random encounter) tables work amazingly well for other systems, including hexcrawling, dungeons and various terrain generators, NPC activities and reactions, and many more.
Great video! I think it would be awesome if you could make a video on building some adventure sites, towns, or dungeons with these books!! Thanks for another great video!!
We built a dungeon with the process before! The original dungeon concept was this video: ruclips.net/video/0peTewvJwdw/видео.html (which does not use the tools mentioned above) And then I created some rooms for it with some of the tools above in this video: ruclips.net/video/e54PFexcsMI/видео.html I'm sure we'll do more in the future as well!
The free versions of Kevin Crawford's games are insane. They are essentially just full books with hundreds of pages. He drops out some optional rules and gameplay styles from the free editions but that's really all. I use Worlds Without Number all the time and it's seriously a 350 page core rulebooks completely for free When I get back to making videos I plan on taking a look at the best free games and Crawford will no doubt top my list
You just inspired me to buy the d30 companions on lulu. I've had the PDFs for years but I just never read stuff on my PC. If only the Tome of Adventure Design wasn't $100 Australian dollars (plus shipping)
The 2014 DMG has a lot of tables and covers almost every topic that you mentioned. Aria Worlds is also a great resource, altough not as user friendly as the DMG. The AD&D DMG is also full of amazing Random Tables. Cheers!
All great choices. I use and have all of them. I would add two more to the list Atelier Clandestine's Sandbox Generator. And Rob Conley's How to Create a Fantasy Sandbox.
Havnt tried worlds without number and i dont know why tbh. Ive been using sectors without number (a browser based digital tool using the stars without number system) for my scum and villainy campaign. Now thats my group has gotten its sci fi fix and is headed back to fantasy, i should check out worlds without number for world and dungeon creation even though we’re playing shadowdark
I'd like to thank you for putting Worlds Without Numbers on my radar. As you say, it is really good for getting that jolt of inspiration.
Glad it is help!
Seconded. Earthmote got me to buy Worlds Without Number
I bought a d30 years ago, just because it existed. It rolled great. The problem was it never stopped. It's basically a round ball.

Sandbox Generator by Atelier Clandestine
Adventure Sheet by Perplexing Ruins
DMG Appendix B by EGG
Was about to bring up Sandbox Generator. I like how concise it is while providing what you most need.
Sandbox Generator is on my list to pick up! Likely in a couple of days when DTRPG announces their sales

Kevin's books are awesome!
Commenting to show appreciation ❤
The dungeon dozen is also pretty cool.
I've been eyeing that one!
Wilderness Hexplore by Jed McClure
Great resource. I have used that one too!

First Step: Buy some sand
Second Step: Get a box
Third Step: put them together
You're welcome

Yeah, I agree with both! I have both of those and use them from time to time
I’d suggest the Perilous Wilds supplement for Dungeon World.

Good suggestions!

I think you'll like it if you found value in SWN!
Check out Into the Wild and Filling in the Blanks by Third Kingdom Games. Both great resources.
Filling in the blanks is good! I use that one too
