What’s your thoughts about wrestling for the service Academies. My son just got in the Naval Academy and plans to wrestle and has been communicating with the coaches.
Division 3 college wrestling is tougher than division 2, but not as tough as division 1 (obviously). Academics come first, family second, wrestling last. Practices, at RIT at least, are no different than d1. Depending on the school you may have to do additional am workouts on top of school and the pm wrestling practice
Years ago, the NCAA invited D 2 champions to compete in the D 1 championship. It ended after Carlton Haselrig from Pitt Johnstown winning both Divisions 1 & 2 titles the same year. He stayed at UPJ because of the coach.
@@jacobharry896 Do you still wrestle in Springfield? Could you tell me if they recruit Brazilians or do international athletes need to go through Juco first?
What about NAIA. I am a NAIA National champ. Also believe our lifestyle is just as hard or similar to a d1/2/3 program . Not really only a NCAA grind . This video didn’t really consider that
I wrestled throughout highschool but had my career cut short due to false accusations from an officer that stood up in this crooked justice system. I was hoping to be able to wrestle in college after I showcased my skills at state. I am from Iowa so I have been with the best of the best competition wise. I would love to be able to find another way to wrestle, it still breaks my heart to this day....
Depends. Do you have the financial ability to attend an NAIA school? Are you prepared to go to a place that’s probably in the middle of nowhere, with nothing to do but wrestling? Are you ready for a full time commitment to college wrestling? You ready to have to agree to a different kind of student code of conduct than a public university? I’m not asking these questions to be a smartass, I’m just laying down the truth to you man. If it’s your passion and you’re fully committed to the sacrifices go for it!
Definitely check out a NAIA then D3, if D1 and D2 isn't the best fit for your major and mat prowess. 1.)Think of the choices as D1( almost full ride); D2( partial or $8k); D3( $0); NAIA( $5k athletic money) for financial aid. 2.) Who has my major? #.) Do I start or wait?
D1 is obviously 1.D2 and naia are similar weather hit or miss. Then juco . Last is division 3. Of course d3 sometimes has tough enough wrestler who can threat d1 top contender but it is rare.

I currently wrestle d3 I had a opportunity to be a PWO at a d1 but didn’t regret being a career backup, it’s still competitive and a great time.

In other words words they got butt hurt that a d2 guy could beat them
You do great work man. As an older former wrestler and big wrestling fan, I say take whatever opportunity that comes your way. Thanks for the video.
Do JUCO next pls
I suppose I'd wrestle where I had to, To be able to just to compete if I still wanted to!!
Great advice, this coming from a D1 wrestler. Best of luck Mike!!
