Sunny doesn't speak English so the translator is feeding him what he thinks are witty english replies. Thats why he comes off as slightly arrogant here while in reality Sunny is a really sweet kid.
I cried through 50% of the movie and that has never happened before.i cried in the beginning in the middle and I cried in the end when they tell him guddu's no more,I didn't cry silently,I had to put a blanket in my mouth so my roommates didn't hear me crying like that,no matter if it got the oscar or not,it's a special movie. Maybe as indian audience i could feel it more .that little guy sunny is a genius.
It's moonlight who won best picture. Of all the nominated best pictures moonlight was the worst for me.. i mean LION, Manchester by the Sea, or Hidden figures are much much better
I love the chemistry between the whole team you can feel how committed and seriously they took their roles to do justice to this story .. just beautiful their cameraderie is strong and respect for each other
i think there is a chance for supporting actor or adapted screenplay slim chance but better than supporting actress viola davis has that lock down and best picture is def la la land
hmmm The translator is _feeding_ him lines, & not truly explaining to him the question. You can see it in the blankness of his stare & when he misspoke the "I'm the best" & the translator bend to correct him. GAWD THAT'S SO INDECENT.
I know that La La Land gets a lot of recognition but I hope Lion gets alot of recognition in the academy awards because it's a beautiful story and just powerful.
Makes me sad to see Indians in the comments attacking Australians or 'white' people (as if all white people are one category or are all colonizers) because they feel this film shows our country's inadequacies. This movie is not an India v/s Australia contest, it is about one man and his two families, and their story of motherly love across countries and continents. Getting angry about such a movie being made just showcases our insecurities. Instead of protesting against India's portrayal, why not occupy ourselves in helping children like Saroo who are defenseless on the streets? Also, I think cinemas across the world (or at least in major film industries) do reflect upon the shortcomings in their society. Rabbit Proof Fence is a case in point for Australia, and I am sure there are others. The Indian film industry, on the other hand, produces more misogynistic dance numbers and senseless stories, and very rare gems, which are even more rarely appreciated. I am glad someone brought out Saroo's story on film, because Indians surely wouldn't have, and I think that reflects very poorly on us.
@Raju bhau Lol, you called women who CHOOSE to do whatever they want with their bodies "slutty", "dirty" and "bitches". You don't even see women as sexual beings who are their own agencies. A person like you don't have enough brain cells to comment on feminism. And what about the MEN who choose to dance around semi-naked women, those who choose to direct such women, those who choose to produce?? They are saints who gets called "bhai" and have a bigger salary, bigger respect and bigger fanbase than any actress could have but the actresses alone are a problem for you, right?? Because you think only men are sexual, and women or not. Women are sexual beings, you would have realized that if you have got a basic sex education in school, which India cannot afford unfortunately. Also, it is perfectly alright for women to show their skin. It is THEIR body, not yours' loser. The problem is when women are ONLY given those roles but not other meaty performances or importance in the script or equal salaries. That is why bollywood films are misogynistic.
Yes! Typical Indian translator which is just stop the kid to be a kid and trying to portray his vision. Best was clearly his idea. I saw other interviews of sunny and he was just a kid having fun
I find it odd how everyone started out in casual chat mode and then seemed to correct themselves and started talking as if they were attending someone's funeral.
Well appreciate the effort, but India has more to it than these sad stories, the silicon valley today has not just they working but have them running huge organisations, hope to see more happy takes of this amazing country INDIA!!
rather see the sad stories than the unofficial and terrible remakes of hollywood movies within bollywood movies also movies without pornstars (cough sunny leone cough) or actors that kill people (salman khan) or actors that deny they stole someone else's movie (aamir khan ghajini memento) grow up lion is better than most if not all bollywood movies
Please get over yourself. The story is great and needed to be shown. It was already a book. This movie is art and the acting, cinematography and direction are phenomenonal. It's not an attempt to denigrate India. Life is full of sad stories and they are told in every language. Watch Satyajit Ray and educate your mind. Middle class Indians only seem to recognise shallow meaningless crap that comes out of Bollywood, but this movie it's in a different league. Do not degrade Saroo Brierly and his traumatic experience by insulting the filmmakers.
iluvmusic I am not degrading this, I am only saying there are enough happy stories to be made, these global cinema creates the perception about a place!!
Siddharth Kakade i agree their r happy stories to tell but this movie is both a sad and a happy story and since it's based on a true story it's based on facts what do u want them to do? change the facts not possible
Siddharth Kakade There is no such a thing as pure happy story. Happy stories are basically based on little sad stories and obstacles that have to be overcome.
shaymaa zaki I think each movie has their own conference. This is for Lion staring Dev Patel and Nicole Kidman who also nominated. However Elle wasn't nominated for best picture
Dev Patel and his directors always trying to show india is poor, poverty, uneducated people through his movies and they selected such topics to show india down , no doubt movie is good sunny did excellent acting.there are lot of Indian movie which deserve Oscar...award..
Of course, India is all swanky few localities of Delhi and Bombay. It has zero corruption, govt funded social security for everyone, and the greatest infrastructure. Why would they show India like this. Got ne thinking. 🤔
The kid is really frickin underated, he is literally half of the movie, if anything he should have gotten a nomination as well.
I know right.
As far as I know this kid Sunny Pawar was nominated in The Oscars along with Dev Patel. Source Wikipedia.
Agreed
@RedRose7997 that def didn't happen
@RedRose7997 he deserved it i agree but i said something else before i guess
Sunny doesn't speak English so the translator is feeding him what he thinks are witty english replies. Thats why he comes off as slightly arrogant here while in reality Sunny is a really sweet kid.

dev patel has such an energy about him. he appears so down to earth.
I hate that la la land is winning over this amazing film. I hate when great films don't get the recognition they deserve.
Katie yeah as we can see from the oscars tonight
Both this and La La Land are very good movies.
It's moonlight who won best picture. Of all the nominated best pictures moonlight was the worst for me.. i mean LION, Manchester by the Sea, or Hidden figures are much much better

Almost cried at the Jalebi
moment in the film.
Me too
Saroo is so humble and down to earth,,,,,,,
I really want lion to win one or two Oscars at least
i think there is a chance for supporting actor or adapted screenplay slim chance but better than supporting actress viola davis has that lock down and best picture is def la la land
SUPER MAN im so upset that lion nor dev or nicole won anything
Its not only about Oscar always , sometimes Oscar doesnt deserve best movie.
Wow
true words there. It doesn't take away the fact this movie resonates with the masses. Btw has anyone read the book?
love between dev and sunny is so incredible.......pure bromance!!!
There isn't a cuter kid on this planet!
I watch everything with Nicole Kidman in it, especially if it's acclaimed. Can't wait!
jajceboy You haven't watched it yet?? One of the bests of 2016!

Nicole did an amazing job. Amazing.
He has an amazing memory. he vividly remembers the events of young childhood.
The interpreter is so disrespectful. He is NOT translating but feeding words to say this young boy. Shame!
he did the same thing in another interview..
Maybe he is also teaching few English words to Sunny. I don't find it disrespectful
He is not feeding anything. That was his genuine response
Nicole Kidman is the most graceful actor in Hollywood x
nicole kidman is so beautiful very motherly
Rajendra Biswas she is. She has a beautiful soul. She’s an empath
@@justcece5709 And she is an amazing actress. What Marvelous characters she has played. From Hours to Big little lies. Amazing.

The entire cast was incredible!
Mahershala was good but Dev should've won the Oscar.
Who is mahershala
Nicol is such acomplished actress it is real delight to listen to 💫
4:07 The translator for sunny should receive a flying shoe for that.

He probably just translating the question to him
Sunny brought me to Railway Children India, superb.
I love India and Australia
But they switched off Saroo’s microphone! At the end he was trying to reply to Nicole Kidman and then I guess thanking everybody .
I find it odd how everyone started out in casual chat mode and then seemed to correct themselves and started talking as if they were attending someone's funeral.
Saroo is sooo cute 😘😘😘😘😘
U know what there are 3 saroos in this
Nicole Kidman is like red wine, gets older & better with looks as well as acting
Today I watch this movie and
Literally I love this movie
And all character have incredible versatility 🙏🙏🙏🙏......
WTF is the translator doing??? It takes like 10 seconds to ask the same question as the interviewer.
vous avez choisi un enfant super heros j en pleure encore
Nicole Kidman is looking so beautiful ❤️

I guess the fake mom loves the fake lil saroo more than dev 😂🌚👍🏾
I didn't like when Nicole said "he is not an actor" about the kid. He is born an actor and he was amazing!
The real Saroo is hot- Indian with Australia cultural background is hot! And such a cute kid he was as well! One of my new favorite movies!
I m without words very wow movie

The one movie that I don't even care about :p
You sound so confusing ,why are you even here then.
Strange, why respond?
Why the h3ll would you say that?! Very rude and disgusting!
