The unsportsmanlike: Good no call. The illegal batting: I've never seen it, in the 1 year I officiated (was all JV games), I never called it. But 4th and goal from the 5 sounds right.
Illegal Batting: At game speed it wasn’t “Clear and Obvious”….good no call. Excessive Celebration: good no call wan’t geared towards the other team, if a foul would be called, maybe Delay of Game for not getting the ball to the officials. The # of officials is low everywhere, we have a 1st year officials doing varsity in week 2 of the season after a couple of JV and below games.
@coolrelaxingmood4847 Thanks for watching and commenting. I always through out the question: "What number of weeks is the over/under for rookie officials to work a varsity game?" Sadly, I'm not kidding.
As far as inexperience we are very thin. Our regions/ areas in Ky share officials regularly to cover games and yes sometimes we have to use every single person in the association to cover the games. We have asked schools to host games on either Thursdays or Saturdays to elevate the shortage and allow enough officials to cover all the games.
We have a numbers crunch here in Washington. After a couple of seasons of trying to cover Friday night varsity contests with green first year guys, our association's Board 's met with the AD's and told them this isn't working for the association nor for the schools we serve. They TOLD the AD's we were only going so deep on our Master List on any given night for varsity assignments. At that point the Board would hold a lottery to see which schools would be required to move their games to Thursdays or Saturdays. The schools could also volunteer to move dates, and get a by on the next lottery. It has worked pretty well so far. It does a disservice to a first year guy or gal to throw them into a varsity contest before they're ready (it hurts retention) and it causes unwarranted frustration to the coaches and players. We definitely put a better product on the field this way.
@larryatkins8578 "It does a disservice to a first year guy or gal to throw them into a varsity contest before they're ready." I 100% agree. It can hurt retention. We try our best to train new officials and our assigner does his best to put new officials in games where they can be successful, but it's far from ideal. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@auzmo Thank you. We certainly try. When I started, our meetings were mostly about business and they were contentious. Now, they are 90% about football and we're getting along much better. We are also much more welcoming and supportive of new officials. I think that has really paid off. Our new officials have great attitudes and want to learn. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.
at 4:49 was there a particular reason anyone didn't call a IBB. I think some could call one, some would not. It looked like #18 Red did get hit from the blindside. From my point of view, I think I would have called that particular one, but would like to hear your thoughts. I'm not trying to pick apart, I didn't know if that was part of your post-game discussion. Thanks.
@lorenyonts6075 Good eye. I reviewed the play in question and after seeing it again, I remembered what happened... at least from my POV. I thought it was borderline and I didn't call it. From the video, it looks like it was an IBB. So, I will say I missed it (at least it didn't result in a touchdown or anything 😉). I would have appreciated your flag on that action. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.
Not sure if I would call that a bat especially live- yes in slow monition it might look like it. But in this case I would let it go- Yes the spike is a good no call If he did the gronk spike yes- but this is just an over zealous young man who threw the ball down a little too hard
Illegal Batting is a special enforcement foul. It is enforced 10 yards from the spot of the foul which on this play looks to the 22 or 23 yardline. I remember this as fouls against the ball (illegal batting, illegal kicking and intentional grounding) are spot fouls. It would be A 4th and G from 12 or 13 yardline. Also in my opinion, this does need to be called, even late, because what if B, because if the illegal batting, picked up the ball and ran it back for a TD?
Gold to see you on the field. First batting call, almost looks like they tried and missed especially at game speed and that close to the play. Second call for excessive celebration, were you looking at the player or still signaling the change of possession and maybe missed it 😉😉 maybe it's still just a hard drop for the player as maybe they don't know what or to whom to give the ball to after it somehow ends in their possession 🙁 yeah I have no emote skill.?😮
Your, my old, association at least put someone on the crew with enforcement experience on the crew so you're not the only one with a grasp of enforcement to check you incase you do try and or make a mistake enforcement that maybe a newer official may go yeah that was wrong but as a new guy I didn't want to say anything. Plus you get paid a $1 more you should have known.
Both are good no calls. Unfortunately because the number of officials are down we have to put individuals on the field who may understand the game of football but don’t know how to officiate yet. We have set crews and try to make the ratio of experienced officials higher than to non experienced officials on each crew. Which means sometimes we have to move people around.
@davidfross During the "C0VlD" season, I was generally the least or second-least experienced official on the crew. Now, I'm usually the most or second-most experienced crew member. I like "may understand the game of football but don’t know how to officiate yet." One of the officials in the game featured in the video is new to football but is a veteran official for basketball and baseball. That really gives him a leg up. Thanks for watching and commenting!
agree with calling nothing on that play
@zacharydeutch877
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. And thanks for agreeing with me! 😀
Can we all appreciate the video production quality? As well as the venues for these games? Holy cow. What beautiful facilities and country!
Agree with all the no calls made.
Both non-calls in my book, too!
@PodcastersForChrist
I like your book!!! 😀

@@efoahighschoolfootballoffi150 It must be the same one you're reading! LOL
Two good no-calls.
The unsportsmanlike: Good no call.
The illegal batting: I've never seen it, in the 1 year I officiated (was all JV games), I never called it. But 4th and goal from the 5 sounds right.
@Garb316
Thanks for watching and commenting. Also thanks for officiating... I hope you still are officiating. We need you out there!

Great example of keeping the flag in your pants on both potential fouls.

I'm sorry to hear about your numbers. I hope that changes very soon. Thanks for viewing and commenting. Have a great season.

What was Ryan singing?
@charlesmerchant4762
Mostly show tunes.
Your crew looks pretty good for relative inexperience. Im guessing you do a good job of training with the amount of time you invest in this channel.

Hard drop or light Spike. What should we call it? Too funny.
@js0peanut
If you come back we'd have one more official who knows penalty enforcement!
Thanks for watching and commenting.
I hope you're doing well. 👍
