- Michael Douglas and Annette Bening dance to the overture from "The King and I" in this poignant moment from the splendid 1995 film "The American President," written by Aaron Sorkin and directed by Rob Reiner. This clip appears in my "Movie Music Romance" film history show for community colleges (2018-19).
Love this scene. Love the music.
"Because She Said Yes".....Makes me Smile with a Tear in my Eye Every Time! Love This Movie....Always Will....Cheers Everyone
i know I am kinda randomly asking but does anybody know a good place to stream new movies online?
All Michael Douglas has to do is be his handsome, sophisticated self, but Annette Bening is able to channel and communicate what any "non presidential" lady would feel like when being wooed by a president. Fabulous movie, perfect scene.
I think AJ's wife putting her hand on his shoulder was very touching that she was happy he had found someone special
I agree, I thought that the President should have also invited the French Presidental couple to join them.
I love this movie and scene. The way everyone is looking and smiling. We as humans should cheer for others to be happy. We are sadly missing that these days. If I saw a widow/ widower I knew finally smiling and dancing, I’d legit be smiling like a fool. And the music brings tears to my eyes. 🥺🥺💜💜
The song they're dancing to is "I Have Dreamed" from The King and I.
This is such a simple great movie! Pure entertainment! Please Aaron give us a sequel!
It was called The West Wing! Lol
William, IMHO there was a Prequel of sorts: 'DAVE' with Kevin Kline and Sigourney Weaver
I just love this scene. Two beautiful actors, people! 😊💕
They did such a nice job with this movie and the acting was so well done all around
I can't tell you how many tears I've shed watching this modern fairy tale.
I really do love this movie! Every time its on I sit and watch! My wife and kids tease cause I love rom coms and this for me is at the very top of the list
This is an excellent movie. I watch it whenever it comes on TV.
One of the best pieces of music ever in the classical style
Caryl, here. I just love A.J. and Esther. They seem like they just adore each other.
Annette Bening is wonderful in this movie, but Michael Douglas was also excellent. His reply to Annette was charming.
It reminds me of High Society, Bing, Grace and Frank. Maybe we need more “feel good” films!
The Douglas's! What honorable men And she alike Excellent Lady!
One of my favorite scenes. ❤
In fact, when I present this clip in my film history show, I describe it as one of the greatest scenes in movie-making history, a constellation of pure genius🤓. Cheers.
Great film Great Cast, far better than the majority of Juvenile Tripe on offer today.!
My Mom Loved this Movie
Miss you Mom and Dad
She is one of the most luminous women in the world.
Magical scene.
The very essence of enchantment.
One of my all time favorites
"The President sent you a ham, Ms. Wade! You're the President's girlfriend!!!"
I love that Lord, it reminds me so much of you! That is so romantic!
Love annette ..four time academy award nominations

Love Is Magical ❤️
Yes.
Two Marvel actors dancing in my favorite movie
Marvel actors? Are you sure? What comic book superheroes do they play?
Hank Pym and Mar Vel
Nice dancing
@@susanne25262 Clever dialog, too🙂
Warren Beatty is a very lucky fellow.
The Apprenticeship got Duddy Kravitz a long way. Senator Bob Rumson got called out. At the end. That should be inserted as I jaw jaw rather than Roar Roar!
Unfortunately the opposition was also there and started going negative campaign on him.
This movie, & Dave, & yes The West Wing are what we would like politics to become.
It's easy to spot the Republican in this scene, glaring at the thought that two progressives might be having fun. 0:56 time mark.
Kinda nice to see an evening in DC with no gunfire.
You are confused. The democrat is glaring because its a white hetro couple having fun, how dare they!
He wasn't glaring or mad that these two are having fun. He was scheming. He sees the political opportunity for Republicans. It's stated in the movie that when Shepherd ran for election, his opponents knew that personal attacks would backfire because he was a widow. But now, "the President has a girlfriend...."
she looks like posh spice at end , or beckham
/United Artists.......(......///
Very Presidential... as if they were real....
A pure love story on that score excellent however a lot this film was also pure propaganda lol and somewhat slanted writing. Both Douglas and Bening did very well in acting roles. A lot of good camera work. all in all not a bad film.
Propaganda? How do you figure? Idealistic, maybe...
"TOTALLY INCONSISTENT WITH REPUBLICAN IDEOLOGY!", he said, while rapidly drinking a glass of water.
She is very underrated
She's had a successful film career for years and years with multiple awards and nominations. What part of that suggests to you that she's underrated? You're just an idiot repeating comments that don't make sense.
I loved this movie for a long time...
It saw it when I was a young person and it was magical and romantic and centered around politics, which interested me at the time.
It would have been PERFECT if it has just stayed ethereal in its politics but it just had to stoop into REAL political agendas...which meant, as the older I get, the more I find the REAL political agendas in the movie to be revolting. The speech about "getting the guns" is straight political propaganda and it's like someone takes a hammer to your forehead and knocks you right out of your "suspension of disbelief" and makes you realize that the ENTIRE movie is just a well crafted political prop piece made by people who are (no so) secretly highly political in their activism and fundraising.
It would have been nice to just have it be art...a film that anyone could enjoy. Once you are moved from the "I'm just watching a movie and it's a good movie" mode into "this really is just a prop piece at it's core" mode, it takes all the art completely out of it.
When you look at how political the stars of this movie have now revealed themselves to be, you get the feeling that the whole thing was just a ruse. Mr Dreyfuss has been almost maniacal at times in his political activism and Ms Benning and Mr Sheen are also quite public about their political activism. Mr Dreyfuss was clearly pulling an "Archie Bunker", where Carrol O'Connor (who was a liberal Democrat) portrayed the people he didn't like to an extreme where they became a caricature. it amazes me, to this day, that people really have no idea that Archie Bunker was ALWAYS meant to be so over-the-top...being played by a man who really hated everything about the character and wanted to make those "bigots" look as ridiculous as possible.
The movie was amazing, right up until the point it because ACTUALLY political instead of just being about politics.
Good movie. Too bad is so woke.
Great movie except for the politics.
It's all about *POLITICS* .
🇮🇪🇪🇺
You know how absurd that's sounds.😂
The detailed design of the ship and timeline of events that fateful night was stunning. The obnoxious love story ending in Titanic heaven was beyond stupid.
@@emmarae4322 not really. The politics of the story represent anyone who is not of the liberal persuasion as evil and greedy, so I stand by my statement. Nice Rom-com, but intolerant towards any other political point of view.
@@newsfromthepews6391 I'm liberal and I agree with you.
A good movie..but sadly, cheaply abused as a propaganda tool.
John Hylton-- The Real Sadness is it can only be abused if you allow it to be...I ignore the pettiness of that thought and just concentrate on the fine acting! Cheers
Sir, the entire movie is propaganda. that is its only purpose. But it was well done.
How?😂 must be a Right winger, everything is false or propaganda. Can't have any fun.😂🤦♂️
@@humantiger72 😂🤦♂️😂
@@TheStuport i agree. The acting is superb and I believe the romance. I don’t think about the politics much. I really don’t know a lot about American politics, but are they supposed to be the Clintons?
All president should be made to watch this movie.
There's one in particular that comes to mind🙂
