  • Adirondack Mountains - Lake George Wild Forest - The Lake George 12ster Challenge
    The Lake George 12ster Challenge Website: www.lakegeorge1...
    Boasting almost 50 miles of hiking and close to 11,000' of elevation gain, this is the Lake George 12ster, designed to get people exploring the areas surrounding Lake George. It consists of 12 mountains that you can climb in any way you like. Go at your own pace or go for the Ultra which is all 12 in less than 24 hours. There are even Winter variants for the arctic-loving people among us. It gets cold up there!
    I've watched these mountains over the years from a boat, dreaming of one day coming to the area to hike instead of vacation. The Tongue Range in particular has always drawn me in as to what I imagined a Lake George hiking experience to be. I wasn't wrong.
    Over the course of 6 weeks I took on this challenge. From crowded peaks to quiet ponds, dim forest paths to bright vistas, I got to experience it all! Ending the journey at the height of the Fall foliage season was the best decision I ever made, it was incredible.
    With those distances and elevation, the sometimes rushed timelines, and lack of sleep (most of the time) my body took its punishment right up until the last summit. One misstep on a patch of acorns coming up First Peak twisted my knee up pretty good. In the end, after putting almost 7 miles on it, I was gifted a much needed ride from Clay Meadow trailhead back up to the lot I started in. This is the portion I was planning on road-walking but there was a slim chance I would have made it by dark and it is a very twisty road (55mph at times).
    Hands-down this was the most incredible hiking experience I've every had and if you get a chance to take on the challenge, you owe it to yourself to do it! You can expect more trips coming out of this area from me, there is a lot more to explore.
    Safe travels my friends, thanks for watching!

    Man, I hope you never commercialize your channel. Your videos are just too pure to ever do so. Of course, I think your followers would still support you regardless, but I think it would take away from how your videos truly makes an individual feel like they're actually there. Thank you!

      When I started doing this back in 2014 I wasn't even expecting to get 10 subscribers, let alone read comments like yours. I could never imagine having to force someone into watching an ad while checking out my videos. Naturally there is a cost involved in all of this, software licensing, gear upkeep, gas, etc. but I've been fortunate enough in life that it hasn't been something I've needed help with.
      Thank you for the kind words and your support, it is always appreciated my friend!

      Thank you! You can't go wrong with the Adirondacks. There is something for everyone there, hiking, backpacking, boating, fishing. The Lake George area is something extra special to me though, I have a lot of great memories on that lake growing up.

    Ahhh, the fall colours are marvelous...too bad that not more patch challenges are available around North America...great reward for some who may need some extra encouragement to get outside...some fantastic views, but if not good views everywhere, it seems like some very great hiking...thanks so much for sharing your endeavours and hope you are healing well...

      Thank you very much, I am on the mend and the knee is feeling pretty good. I've been working on it for a couple of weeks now, stretching and doing some light hiking and strengthening.
      I couldn't agree more on the colors, I'm so glad I made the decision to finish in October instead of wrapping it up in early September. Those are the moments I crave when I'm on the trail. The hiking was amazing from the first step all the way to the end. Well-maintained trails that just flow when you get a rhythm going. Hands-down some of the best hiking I've ever done.
      Thanks you for checking the trip out and thanks again for the wishes!

    Cheers on finishing! A friend and I are working on the 12ster this spring and have four left. I like watching videos to check out what's to come (and remember where we've been). Glad to have found your video as you have great shots. I especially love seeing the emerging fall colors. Thanks for sharing!

      I remember having the same thought. I have a nearly 30 year old Patagonia retro fleece jacket with quite a few patches that my mother was kind enough to sew on after my trips. I also have some on my old Lowe backpack with some as well. Congrats again.

      That trip, Cat and Thomas, was my favorite trip of the three I made up there last Summer. It was the chillest experience I've ever had. Best 8 miles of hiking I've ever done. There are so many beautiful areas in this region, the White Mountains being the best example of top-tier Norteast hiking.

    This was an excellent video! Really well done. Congrats on completing the challenge.
    On the tongue range did you have a water source besides lake george itself? In particular is there something close to the lean to on 5th peak? Possibly at the intersection right before you break off to go up the peak?

    • @capsoutdoors
      @capsoutdoors  2 года назад

      Thank you! If I remember correctly there was a water source between Five Mile and Fifth Peak but it was a ways down the trail going away from Fifth so I made sure I was carrying extra to get me down to the lake. I have to say that doing the entire range in one go was the best decision. That was hands down one of the best days of hiking I've ever had. Thanks for checking the video out and good luck if you head up to check it out!

      Thank you my friend, it was an incredible 6 weeks. I've been wearing my brace since I got back and doing some strengthening/stretching to keep it in check. So far it seems to be holding up well, no pain so that is always a good thing. I think it was just a minor sprain. When it first happened it was causing all the muscles in my upper leg to spasm, man was that rough to hike on. I'm glad you liked the edit, no doubt this was a huge project to handle (172gb of clips split between 2 cameras) but I had so much fun doing it.
      Be good Craig, all the best to you and the family! I'm looking forward to your next trip.

    Hi Joe, I'm really enjoying your upstate videos. How far are you driving up to Lake George? I thought I thought the bridge in the beginning looked like the new Tappanzee. I ask because im on LI, and have been doing long day trips to hike the Gunks in New Paltz?

    • @capsoutdoors
      @capsoutdoors  2 года назад

      Hey Michael, thanks for checking out the videos, it is always appreciated. It takes me a little over 3 hours to get up there and I'm on I87 the entire time after the bridge so it is a very easy drive. Once I'm in Lake George Village there is additional driving to get around the lake to the trailheads but it's not terrible unless it is tourist season. Thanks again my friend.
