Hi, I planned for many years to move here. Been here about 5 yrs now, I am glad I did!! I love the landscape the ability to see mountains all around!!! Moved from Chicago.
I'm born and raised here but have lived all over the country. I always come back for 2 reasons. 1. It's home 2. It's the most convenient place I've ever been.
I take it you don't like being able to make left turns or having businesses with good signage. I take it you like poor healthcare. I HATE living here, and if I weren't force to by my work, I would move.
@@Patriots1262 if you have good healthcare for some specific reason but the majority of people don't, it's not a good healthcare place (also, I wouldn't brag about it...)
Red Rock brought us back to Vegas. Hike the Canyon almost every day, as well as up at Mt Charleston where it never gets above 70's. Oh, there's water up in thar hills that replenishes the 1,000+ ft deep natural aquifers.
Lived in Vegas for a very, very long time.Yes, it has grown a lot since I've been here (miss some of my old haunts) but in a strange way it's still a small town. Flooding was really bad back in the day when Monsoon season hit but the Regional Flood Control has done a fantastic job of building flood control channels throughout the city. Love the mountains especially with nothing built on them & love looking at cars on Sunday without any salesmen at the dealership. It's still relatively cheap to live here especially without state income tax & cheap property taxes. The summers never bothered me. Could be like living in hell during July though. It was the cold winters that took awhile for me to get use to. Still love living here. It's not for everyone. But it fits me & what I like about it: Entertainment, Great Restaurants, A 24 hour town, Close proximity to CA/AZ/UT & Freedom!
I agree and I thought of moving there but I work for an airline and I can’t see paying $1k plus for an apartment and no way I could buy a house. I actually teach tennis too and do ok with that but I’d have to leave my clientele here in my small town and start over. I don’t like the homelessness and mental illness shown all around the strip but honestly. I do like LV and it seems exciting and I wouldn’t mind being there. Thought of going to beach too because I could get job there but I live so simply where I’m at that it’s hard to leave even though the town kind of sucks! But with free airline flights I just fly if I wanna go somewhere
My first time in Las Vegas it was raining. Turned on the news to see stories of cars floating away in the streets. It always a shock to see snow on the strip.
Cali surprisingly also has no sales tax on food and non-alcoholic bevs. Food that’s not already prepped/ready-to-serve like those packaged hot dinners from the Deli.
Been watching your channel for a while now Jacob, I wanna say since I moved to Vegas from Southern California (Summer of 2016) but I want to say I admire your dedication not only to your channel, but to the city of Las Vegas!!! you are a legend my friend. Congrats on passing 100k subs!!!!! EPIC
Thanks Again, Jacob. Some of this information was eye-opening. You always provide accurate unbiased material for all the viewers. You are really the only creditable Las Vegas source.
I've lived in Southern Nevada for 22 years, and JacobslifeinVegas was marvelous in covering the 13 surprising things about Vegas . . . he was spot-on! I can especially relate about the area being behind-the-curve with technology. I came from Silicon Valley in California, where when compared to others in the region, my tech expertise could be measured as being below-average. But, upon arriving to Southern Nevada, I was looked upon as being high-tech brilliant when compared to the general populace.
There are some really nice parks with outdoors workout areas covered in shade. If you are a thrift shopper there are amazing goodwills compared to other parts of the country. Most locals don't really go to the strip that much unless you work there... If you live there you basically find your own part of town that becomes your mini town where you will do the majority of your grocery / banking / day to day crap. One thing Vegas did amazing at is the grid street planning. 3 lanes crisscross the whole town with the interstate basically circling on top.. along with a bus system that makes sense - it is a very easy town to get around... even if something crazy happened on the interstate. You can always just get off and find back / side roads. When I visit the East Coast if something happens on the interstate you are screwed.. all the side roads will be single lane, and it is just a bottle neck cluster. That said there always seems to be some kind of annoying construction - but again you can always find an alt route.
Your videos are always very professionally made, Jacob; it’s obvious you did lots of research, as well as using personal experience. I like the way you speak - very fluently and with lots of confidence, while showing that beautiful smile. Good going Jacob! 👍🏻
One thing that surprised me was the meaning of "Las Vegas". It actually means "the meadows" and I don't usually associate meadows with Las Vegas. Rafael Rivera named it because it has Artesian springs bubbling water and creating a green area.
I’m moving to Vegas from western Washington. I have lots of family in Vegas so I have visited multiple times a year for over a decade. I’m so EXCITED! This got me even more so. Much prefer dry heat to the humidity here, we get lots of wind here in Bellingham so that’s not new either. I’m also terrible with computers for being 26, lol I’ll fit right in! 🤣
Very insightful as usual Mr. Jacobs, you always have useful information unlike other u tubers that just walk up and down the strip. Vegas is more than just the strip.
Zup have met a lot of people from east coast like from New Jersey and New York as well as west coast where iam from like California. It keeps the state intresting in the sense that we have the influence from all these different places and different businesses and restaurants from these parts of the country start coming here and that I would think would be good for business here a win , win
Great video. My surprise was how many businesses in the LV Valley AREN'T open 24 hrs. or very late. Albertsons and Walmart close at 11pm. In Oregon those places were open longer, even 24hrs.
That has to do with Covid. Walmart already had plans of no longer operating any stores 24/7, but then the virus hit so it accelerated the process. Various things factored into this beyond Covid, but the fact that more theft was going on both externally/internally at night played a huge role as well, but also the ability to properly clean/restock the stores when they never closed. Sucks cuz I miss shopping in the late night hours :(
To be a security officer you have to be licensed by the private investigators board. The card also allows you to be a polygraph technician, police dog trainer, private detective, security consultant, mystery shopper, bodyguards etc (required for those jobs)
Very interesting facts Jacob! Something that is also interesting Guardian Angel Catherine is the only catholic Church in the world that has a 2pm mass on Saturday that counts as the Sunday obligation and the Vatican approved that mass time for low and behold the hospitality workers! Prior to that mass time the priests would celebrate the mass at early times on Sundays
A lot of the "10 surprises" lists about Vegas I've seen have not been all that surprising, but this one has some real gems Best of such lists I've seen so far. You didn't mention the occasional plaques of cockroaches and such that occasional happen.
I live in Twin Lakes off the 95 fwy between Rancho and Valley View and the twin lakes are located in Lorenzi Park where the Morman community was most prevalent.
Yeah. I'm from Chicago and experienced the Las Vegas winters when I was there. It's a different kind of cold in Vegas. BONE dry and windy. 25 degrees in the desert I would equate to about 10 in Chicago.
When I lived in Vegas, I was surprised about the amount of gambling the locals do. I had heard that most locals don't gamble but I don't think that is true from my experience. There are gaming machines in 7-11s and grocery stores.. Rodney Dangerfield joked, "Slot machines are everywhere, even the supermarkets, I went into a market yesterday to buy a 6 pack of beer and it cost me $200." You definitely need to be careful because gambling is everywhere; some casinos even cash payroll checks.
I don’t go anywhere near those machines, I work too hard for my money, u won’t win, it’s all rigged. Oh yeah, that guy with his 80.00 gallon of milk lol that poor guy is who they love to trap! I see all the little old ladies at the machines in Smith’s. Used to be u could see the cloud of cigarette smoke hanging in the air above their heads when smoking inside was allowed lol 😂
Yeah casinos suck the life out of locals LOL That's what someone posted years back. I agree with what you say since I just completed a year here. I see where it gets out of hand
Why would people gamble in a 7-11? Why would the machine ever pay off? The store doesn't care about repeat customers, and if the suckers just traveling through want to throw away their money, that's their problem. Just wondering...
@@broadcasttttable i used to think it was weird, too. You live here awhile and now it’s like nothing. I never do it but it doesn’t phase me anymore to see people sitting at machines in convenience or grocery stores. Waste of money, imo, but some people can’t help themselves. It’s kinda sad to see. A lot of older people do it. Maybe it’s their way of getting out and about? But yeah, never in all my years of living here have I heard of anyone hitting it big at 7-11 or Circle K lol.
@@kimwarner1681 Back in the day when I was a young man I had a dealer who'd wait for customers at the 7-11 around the corner so that his neighbors wouldn't see cars constantly coming and going from his house. He'd sit at a machine and the cashiers didn't care because every time the machine hit he'd tip them out. The machines at convenience stores pay out exactly as often as anywhere else, because it's dictated by the state gaming commission.
I thought for sure that crazy wind and dust storms might make the list. Great video. I was a poker player for about 4.5 years, and most of these things I really did learn on the fly.
Great topic Jacob!! Things that surprised me when I moved to Vegas: 1. How much my driver's insurance went up! Close to 'doubled' in cost?!?!! 2. How equivalent jobs pay 'less' in Vegas ?!?!?! It's been a struggle to find equivalent paying jobs, majority of companies I've interviewed with were low-balling?! 3. Quality of service: A LOT of businesses (not just restaurants and hospitality) seem like they don't value their customers nor care if they come back...?!?! I know there is a staffing shortage/issue - But, that is no excuse to lower your standards of customer service! Your customers are why you are in business - Value and treat as such! (Off my soapbox now - LOL!) 4. When I lived here back in 1996-2003, the "vibe" of Vegas has definitely change moving back in 2021. 5. The homeless population is evident EVERYWHERE. I've learned that the city/officials only care about bringing in high profile events to generate income for the city (NFL Draft, Rock-n-Roll Marathon, NHL All Star Game, etc...). They don't care of how these events cause an inconvenience to it's residents (traffic and noise) and that they really don't care about the homeless and where they stay ?!?! Hence the huge increase especially near the strip. 6. How Vegas doesn't really enforce nor promote recycling ?!?!
Insurance is expensive here because they base it off of the area u are in, the other drivers around you. I agree, it sucks but I did insurance for awhile and it’s based on number of accidents in your area, make of car, driving history, etc. vegas is a 24 hour town so they also take into consideration the risk of living in a “party” type of town. You may be a very safe driver but the others around you are not. Again, it stinks, I agree. Only part I hate about living here. Oh & yes, wages are lower. When I first got here in 93, I asked a lady at a staffing agency why is pay so low here? I have an education, what’s going on? She said because Vegas is considered a transient place, no one plants roots so employers don’t care to pay what they should pay employees.
Hey Luke, don't sweat it! Enjoy your life, spend your money and chill. Besides, before you know it, you'll be dead and your body will be the food for maggets,

I grew up in a resort town. you can't imagine how much locals detest tourists, or how revolting tourists can be. they think spending a hundred dollars a night for a room lets them treat locals like Malfoys treat muggles.
You nailed #13 (Technology literacy in Vegas) - I rented a car at Avis at the McCarren Airport and they had to use carbon copy paper slips to process our reservations because they couldn't figure out their computer problems. I have seen more tech-savvy people living in Arkansas than Vegas. No joke.
Witnessed my first monsoon July 2021 I was so confused i was in town for surgery lol streets were flooded and I saw lightening the next day it’s like nothing happened
I keep seeing all the rain there. When I lived there from 94 to 97, it rained one time for like 20 mins max, 1/4 in. Not a drop in 3 yrs other than that one time. So a few months ago when I saw all the flooding there it was so strange to me.
Great info Jacob im thinking to move there next year from hawaii infact I just came back from Vegas 2 weeks ago it was my first time in my 43 year lifetime and I was intrigued I absolutely love nevada my cousin that was up there the same time as me moves there this coming monday . Hawaii is very very expensive the price has gotten so bad its unaffordable especially when companies pay below the cost of living its not balanced at all and I also have my hunting license and the gun laws here in hawaii is one of the strictest laws politicians is picking away at our freedom in hawaii. In the past 2 years my mortgage broker said she helped 12,500 families from hawaii move to vegas.
I always find a lot of value in your videos Jacob. I was watching them for a while before I moved here. This town used to be affordable but I find myself being priced out quickly. Come the end of the year, I will probably be out, depending on how much the rent increases...
Watch videos from Keith Kalfas, Forever Self Employed, or Pressure Wash Help. You could even start a pool cleaning business. It's easy, just hustle and do a good job and take before and after pictures for your ads. Get business insurance BEFORE you do your first jobs. Good luck.
@@thisismagacountry1318 I appreciate the info. I’m close to retirement age and can’t physically “hustle” like the 20 somethings (although I do a damn good job).
@@DuTubeable That's the beauty of the idea. You don't actually DO anything except get business insurance, get an EIN to conduct business, run a few Facebook ads and Google ads and answer the phones and schedule jobs AFTER visiting your local Home Depot and Lowe's parking lots and getting the phone numbers of Clueless Joe's "visitors" who Jen Psaki said "weren't staying long" by promising them 20/hr and offering free breakfast and lunch. After getting the first job take 2 workers and estimate 90 hr to do lawn maintenance like trimming shrubs, weed, then drop pre emergent on the lawn, offer to fertilize on your next visit to create repeat business and give the emergent time to work, like a week or so. Start at 8 AM and finish by 2 PM. You may need to invest in a used crew cab Tacoma or Tundra. That's usually enough time to book 2 or 3 jobs. Once you find a trustworthy worker make him foreman of the first crew and start a second to manage yourself again. Then there's the commercial window washing business (don't do residential, people are weird about their homes), the soft washing business, the box truck business. Good luck.
@RealBron03- You can bundle up against the cold. You can't do anything against the heat except get naked (which isn't enough) or live indoors for 3 months every year. Veteran of many northern New England winters.
Coming from Los Angeles. One thing that’s a trip is here all the utilities are Separate bills. In la you pay LADWP for power water trash sewer. Here it’s all separated.
Sales tax in Chicago and Cook county are 10.25 percent. 2.5 percent on food, if shopping at a grocery store in Chicago or Cook County. They charge 10 cents per grocery bag (cheap plastic, basic grocery bag if it is a store in Chicago) I live in a burb right outside Chicago city limits, so I never grocery shop in actual Chicago. Cook county is a large area outside of Chicago. We also have car dealerships closed on Sunday in Cook county and the surrounding counties for as long as I can remamber, Do not get me started on property taxes for a home LOL!! Great video Jacob!
Las Vegas is only a half-day's drive from some of the country's most beautiful scenery. Grand Canyon (north rim and south rim), Zion, Bryce Canyon, Sedona and Death Valley.
And just a bit farther to Lake Mead/Hoover Dam. We just took an afternoon trip fifteen minutes from our strip hotel and spent a couple hours doing some light desert hiking, and it was freaking gorgeous.
Sometime in my life I’d like to live in Vegas. Even if it’s just for a short period of time. Enjoyed it the first 2 times I’ve been and would like to see how it is being a local outside of the strip.
I'm a local. I've heard people talk about the strip and some of my friends have even been over there. What's over there anyways? Ask me about Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire, Mt Charleston. Those places I know about.
Great video Jacob as I have lived in Las Vegas since Aug. 2011!!! Interesting facts that I didn't know even living here for so long!!! Kudos to you for your efforts and channel!!! :)-
Planning to move to Vegas, at the end of the month. I spent 5 yrs living in Utah, before I moved back to Massachusetts, 3 yrs ago. Anyway, from my time in Utah, I'm pretty familiar with a lot of the things (weather, population, etc) you mentioned...but there are a few I am glad to find out about. Thanks!
@@sunnyboy8644 It has gone up a lot. We bought at Lake Las Vegas in 2020. We paid 430k for a beautiful townhome. It's on Zillow etc. for over 500. Everything here is getting expensive, but rents are going up most. You can hardly get a one bedroom for less than $1800.

Love your channel brother, I have been saving planning on coming to Las Vegas, inflation has really made me think about saving a little bit more, how are the rental markets as of now. Solo male traveler.
Glad it's helping Day! The rental market here is still tougher than normal. Inflation, supply chain issues, more people moving in/working remotely have all had a big impact. It's certainly doable, but you want to do everything you can to set yourself up for success before you move
Awesome content as usual Jacob! 😎👍 A couple of comments: I think you left out one significant “transplant“ group here in Vegas, pacific islanders in general and Hawaiians in particular. Having spent a lot of time in Hawaii, Hawaiians calling Vegas the “9th island“ is for real and they do shape the culture here 🤙 Another comment I have is about the lateness of Uber/Lyft here. I’m going off of memory but it was an issue I followed closely at the time. As you know, the taxi industry is/was EXTREMELY influential here in town (I believe this is the main reason the monorail doesn’t go to the airport or on to downtown for example) and they fought the ride shares tooth and nail!! I think this definitely contributed to the slowness of them taking hold.
Thank you Rick! I'm surprised I forgot about the 100,000 or so transplants from Hawaii. You're definitely right about the taxi industry fighting Uber/Lyft as long as they could. I knew they would eventually lose the battle.
The Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders may be a side effect of the Mormons. I live in Salt Lake City. The Mormon missionaries did a lot of missions over there. There's even a branch of Brigham Young University (private Mormon) on the island of Hawaii. There are tons of Pacific Islanders and Hawaiians here in Salt Lake City as well.
im saving a little to visit again from W I. These. tips are helpful, very! l love history too. the rest is interestinng to me. l go to your video right away.😊
If you _MOVE_ to Vegas, don't be in a hurry to get your drivers license switched to Nevada. Remember that the casinos have all kinds of deals _"WITH YOUR VALID OUT OF STATE LICENSE"_ This is the reverse of the in state deals he talked about. IMO, the deals are better for the visitors.
Legally you have 30 days from the time you move to change your DL. The line was 2 hrs long in 94 when I went to change mine. But it was cool, cuz they printed it and you got it on the spot. Here in TX it takes 3 weeks to get it in the mail.
Big surprise to me to find out was just how much stuff closes early. Beyond the tourist areas, far less of Vegas is late-night friendly than I thought it'd be. Went to a pizza place last night at 8:15. They had closed at 8. Even on the weekends they apparently close at 9. Whaaaaaat?
Interesting! I had a customer in Pa. that was a buyer for a large retailer. He had a friend call him and offer him a position managing a wig store that was in an old super market. High volume operation in the 80's and he was paid $20k more than he was making in Pa. His wife followed after home was sold. He was lonely so he would find the best deals in Vegas for food or Casino give aways. He was like an encyclopedia on Las Vegas. (That was a set of books with every important information in it) He should have been a Realtor as he was a wiz on Nevada facts. He works at a Casino off the strip running the Bing operation now. He would tell me of all the employment opportunities and taxes and the good life in Las Vegas. The only thing he hated was the car dealership because no negotiating. We love Vegas for the food and the residents who were all so helpful. You made a good choice moving there, more opportunity. Take care and Thanks for a great video!
As someone who’s from Chicago after taking 4 trips to Las Vegas I’ve really started thinking of moving to Henderson area but have just always been afraid to pull the trigger
We were in Vegas in march of 2022. Locals were telling us how crazy home prices are. People form LA are coming in and paying 100k above asking price for homes, in cash.
Let's see..No grocery food sales tax in Cali. But state income tax. With state income tax, state disability. Property tax here...no bueno. Great informative vlog! I've got the link to Lacy saved for when folks ask about housing on Pompsie's channel.
Glad you mention local firms not into IT. Living in UK I have found it impossible to book online directly with Limo service from Harry Reid airport. All they give is a telephone number. Leaving aside 8hr time difference cost of phone call is expensive. A regular visitor have never experienced rain but you must have it for the the flood tunnels to been built.
I had a similar experience when attempting to exchange a rental car that was due for an oil change. I asked the guy at the counter (Avis) which phone number to call to speak to someone in person. He pointed to the phone while it was ringing and said, "we never answer that".
Las Vegas is the #1 city for backing a U - Haul up to the house at 2AM and sneaking away without paying your bills. LV residents will all tell you they don't gamble. Then they talk to each other about which casinos have the loosest slots and most generous blackjack rules
My experience is that Southern Nevada is definitely not for everyone. Unfortunately it seems that many of the people that move here weren’t happy living where they came from. That being said, often have the unrealistic expectation that life here is perfect only to find out that it’s not and endlessly complain about it. (I hear it’s nice in Texas)
Yea, moving to another place isn’t gonna solve any problems. We planned and researched to move out of state a few years ago, but we realized that some problems may be solved but there are definitely others that will take their place.
Jacob, do you know how Section 8 (low income) housing is in Las Vegas? In some parts of the country there is a fairly short waiting list to get onto Section 8, but in other parts the list is ridiculously long, and sometimes it is closed. If you are on Section 8 for a year, you can move to another state and take Section 8 with you, as long as you follow certain guidelines. Not all landlords accept tenants with Section 8 vouchers. I wonder how many landlords accept Section 8 tenants in Las Vegas.
With rents getting so high and out of control there really needs too be government forced rent control like we used too have rent control years ago. What happened??.., I know greed. Well we are seeing the results of that, it’s creating a out of control homeless problem that the governments seem too want too sweep under the rug and now the homeless problem is getting even worse and now add a food shortage and inflation on food and non food items and essential items where people are going too struggle too afford just very basic stuff like food and clothes and non food items and may not be able too afford too rent a appt . This unfortunately may be reality inless something changes
When I first came to Vegas I remember there would be a light shower and there would be flooding in North Las Vegas. When it rains everything is run-off.
13. We do have a large tech industry and its growing. 14. Crazy drivers. 15. City is a lot smaller than you think. 16. Bicycle paths everywhere but hidden from view. 17. But, upon arriving to Southern Nevada, I was looked upon as being high-tech brilliant when compared to the general populace.
Just got back from hiking Red Rock. Beautiful place.
Absolutely!
Nice parks? Without trees? I moved here from a smaller Midwestern town, and the parks there were larger, much more beautiful, and had TREES.
@@do9138 Cool story... which desert town can you think of that is 100% in the desert, and is inside of the US - has better parks? I am curious.
What area of town are these thrift stores located?
Your videos are always very professionally made, Jacob; it’s obvious you did lots of research, as well as using personal experience. I like the way you speak - very fluently and with lots of confidence, while showing that beautiful smile.
Good going Jacob! 👍🏻
I appreciate that Lourdes! Thank you!
Jacob look like one of those Area 51 cartoon aliens with those sunglasses.
"Fluent"? Um....
Another benefit for Nevada residents, you can park at all MGM and Caesars properties for free, for three hours.
That is correct!
One thing that surprised me was the meaning of "Las Vegas". It actually means "the meadows" and I don't usually associate meadows with Las Vegas. Rafael Rivera named it because it has Artesian springs bubbling water and creating a green area.
My wife and I will be living in Vegas very soon
Don’t forget Hawaii transplants. That’s why Vegas is called the 9th island.
Yep! I'm surprised I forgot that 🤦
Lol.
I’m from colorado, Vegas cold ain’t cold
Nah. /
I’m from Minnesota so I 100% agree.
Thank you Bob! I appreciate it!
Zup have met a lot of people from east coast like from New Jersey and New York as well as west coast where iam from like California. It keeps the state intresting in the sense that we have the influence from all these different places and different businesses and restaurants from these parts of the country start coming here and that I would think would be good for business here a win , win
I just love all your videos.. and your sense of humor is fantastic!!
Thank you Susan! I appreciate you 😀
Sweet videos...really enjoy the view...and your presence on the videos
Thank you WH!
Interesting Diego! I did not know that . Thank you for the fun fact 😀
Hey don't forget about the new bike park at lee canyon, I'm coming soon.
Here in Nebraska we have no tax on food and car dealerships are closed on Sunday.
My friend went to Vegas during the great January 2007 cold snap! Last time most of the area had temps below 20 degrees at night.
Since I'm from Minnesota, I got a laugh when you said that it gets cold in Las Vegas since it will get below freezing.
😅
Have a great Sunday Jacob.
Thank you Bill! You too!
It can snow in any of the 12 months in Nevada like we got over the last 2 days up here in Reno/Tahoe
Great topic Jacob!! Things that surprised me when I moved to Vegas:
(Off my soapbox now - LOL!)
Ok but, you DID move back, didn't you?
Besides, before you know it, you'll be dead and your body will be the food for maggets,
For my occupation, pay is very high. Over 6 figures.
"Quality of service: A LOT of businesses (not just restaurants and hospitality) seem like they don't value their customers nor care if they come back...?!?!
No joke.
Oh com'on.
Dude,go Bk to arkysaw
You are totally correct especially with 4
Fewer than 6 states actually tax grocery food items.
The slogan when it rains during monsoon season is, Turn Around, Don’t Drown!
Yes it is. Have lived here for 30 years
Great info Jacob im thinking to move there next year from hawaii infact I just came back from Vegas 2 weeks ago it was my first time in my 43 year lifetime and I was intrigued I absolutely love nevada my cousin that was up there the same time as me moves there this coming monday .
Thank you Linda. I'm glad the videos have been helpful for you. Hoping all things work out well for you🙏
I can't afford Vegas any more either
Good luck.
as a future Vegas resident coming from Detroit, number 12 is me. but i love the mountain views and i can deal with the cold in Vegas

Coming from Los Angeles. One thing that’s a trip is here all the utilities are Separate bills. In la you pay LADWP for power water trash sewer. Here it’s all separated.
Thats just city of LA mostly though
The rest of the planet charges them separately
Bugsy Seagal is legend he built the city good channel with tips
Las Vegas is only a half-day's drive from some of the country's most beautiful scenery. Grand Canyon (north rim and south rim), Zion, Bryce Canyon, Sedona and Death Valley.
Yep yep 👍
Not very useful compared to good healthcare and education, and Vegas has neither of those.
And just a bit farther to Lake Mead/Hoover Dam. We just took an afternoon trip fifteen minutes from our strip hotel and spent a couple hours doing some light desert hiking, and it was freaking gorgeous.
Sequoia, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite
Adirondacks of New York I think are better. However, I definitely like Nevadas politics better.
Sometime in my life I’d like to live in Vegas. Even if it’s just for a short period of time. Enjoyed it the first 2 times I’ve been and would like to see how it is being a local outside of the strip.
Visiting here and living here are worlds apart.
My husband and I will be moving from NYC next December - hope to run into the locals (you and Norma) while I'm becoming a local!
How did the move go?
Planning to move to Vegas, at the end of the month. I spent 5 yrs living in Utah, before I moved back to Massachusetts, 3 yrs ago. Anyway, from my time in Utah, I'm pretty familiar with a lot of the things (weather, population, etc) you mentioned...but there are a few I am glad to find out about. Thanks!

I spent most of my life in SLC. We now live at Lake Las Vegas in Henderson. We LOVE it!!
@@MaggieClarkSLC how's the house pricing down there in Henderson ? did it go up a lot ?

Excellent video Jacob ✌😎
In some states it’s against the law for a car dealer ship to be open or sale a car
Planning on moving to Vegas in January of next year! I definitely want to meet some locals and build connections that way!
Awesome content as usual Jacob! 😎👍
A couple of comments: I think you left out one significant “transplant“ group here in Vegas, pacific islanders in general and Hawaiians in particular. Having spent a lot of time in Hawaii, Hawaiians calling Vegas the “9th island“ is for real and they do shape the culture here 🤙
Another comment I have is about the lateness of Uber/Lyft here.
9th island for sure!! Hawaii people love Vegas. 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
@@EightOEight808 yes sir!
Yes, very big Hawaiian population in the southwest part of Vegas, nice people!
The Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders may be a side effect of the Mormons. I live in Salt Lake City. The Mormon missionaries did a lot of missions over there. If you _MOVE_ to Vegas, don't be in a hurry to get your drivers license switched to Nevada. Remember that the casinos have all kinds of deals _"WITH YOUR VALID OUT OF STATE LICENSE"_
This is the reverse of the in state deals he talked about.
Whaaaaaat?
Vegas made that change after the housing bubble and has continued to move in that direction since Covid.
Monsoons don't start until mid July typically - never in May or June.
There is one problem with this it rises are home prices too high here.
Same thing in Reno: it's gotten to the point that many locals can't buy a house.
Congrats on 100k subs!
Thank you JB!
Same in TX, no state tax and no sales tax on groceries
Good info Jacob. I did learn some things.
Thanks Brian! Glad it helped!
The locals have professional etiquette. The locals' frown on people that cannot compose themselves in public, including your children.
Some locals are scamsters and scumbags. Or stuck up. I live here.
I don't think food is taxed (grocery store) anywhere. Just alcohol and non food items are taxed.
The food tax in Oklahoma is 10%. Texas and Vegas are the only 2 states I've lived that didn't have sales tax on food.
@Laura Davis I have lived in California and Maryland and there is no tax on food (except in restaurants).

In New Jersey the car dealerships are closed and there is no sales tax on food. Our property taxes and income taxes on the other hand....
The mountains make the Last Vegas area, a valley or a bowl, that's why it floods on the strip
When pay for parking most are free for the first 3 hours when you scan your ID. Even the hotels.
Thanks for explaining number 11. I didnt know that....

Las Vegas is the #1 city for backing a U - Haul up to the house at 2AM and sneaking away without paying your bills.
LV residents will all tell you they don't gamble. Then they talk to each other about which casinos have the loosest slots and most generous blackjack rules
Ah! Yes! I've noticed that, too, on my street, about the renters skipping out at night; that is, after they've trashed the place before leaving.
They probably wouldn't have moved if they were content where they lived before, unless it was a forced work move.
Great video! Love all of the comments from the viewers as well. Seems to me LV is love it or hate it kind of town. No in between.
Some hospitality positions doesn’t require a sheriffs or a gaming card

Jacob, do you know how Section 8 (low income) housing is in Las Vegas? In some parts of the country there is a fairly short waiting list to get onto Section 8, but in other parts the list is ridiculously long, and sometimes it is closed. If you are on Section 8 for a year, you can move to another state and take Section 8 with you, as long as you follow certain guidelines. Not all landlords accept tenants with Section 8 vouchers. I wonder how many landlords accept Section 8 tenants in Las Vegas.
Long wait list. They don't want Section 8 here.
I will never rent to section 8 again. What a hassle.
I was on the wait list for 5yrs and gave up.
@@rebeccaheuer3255 I live in a city in Utah. In my city, you can get a Section 8 Voucher in less than a year.
