This is exactly what Naoto Ohshima, Sonic's and Amy's co-creator, meant when he stated on his Twitter account that if Sonic were to mature and grow a man's heart, he would choose and want to be with Amy Rose. As stated by both Ohshima and Sonic Team, Sonic has always loved Amy, but was always too shy and immature with a boy's heart to be honest about his feelings for her. But now we're seeing Game Sonic maturing, and growing a man's heart and like his canon counterpart in IDW Sonic and the games, he's not giving up so easily, and he's determined to win Amy back, somehow, someday. But Game Sonic was also smart and mature enough not to try to get Amy to choose between him and Movie Sonic and respected her decision.

Movie Sonic spent most of his life alone, on the run and hunted by enemies who want his powers for selfish reasons. Amy is the first female hedgehog in his life and the first female hedgehog he ever saw in his entire life no doubt. And as a lone hedgehog who desires and longs for affections and companionship, I'm sure Movie Sonic deeply values and appreciate his time and relationship with Amy Rose. Movie Sonic also showed maturity and self-control by not attacking Game Sonic in a fit of jealous rage as he patiently waited and watched what Amy would do despite his fear of being alone again if she chose to go back to Game Sonic. No doubt Movie Sonic is aware that Amy has affections for Game Sonic.
But Game Sonic got friend-zoned by Amy after she chose Movie Sonic over him. But that's his own fault for not being honest with himself about his feelings for Amy in the past and she chose to move to Movie Sonic who wants to be with her. Amy's mature character here is very much like her canon counterpart in IDW Sonic, in Sonic Lost World and Sonic Forces, and Sonic Team confirmed that Amy's character growth, maturity and leadership skills are canon. This story isn't over. Game Sonic is maturing and now doing the chasing in hopes of reclaiming Amy's heart and affections from "himself."
Can u explain a little better? I don't know a lot of the sonic lore (just the anime one). Doesn't Sonic end up it Sally with kids in the comics?? I thought she was always the creator's favorite 🤔

During 1992, half of Sonic Team, led by Sonic's co-creator Yuji Naka, along with Sonic's third co-creator Hirokazu Yasuhara and Takashi Iizaka and other members, went to America to work on Sonic 2 with SEGA of America. Meanwhile, the other half of Sonic Team led by Sonic's second co-creator Naoto Ohshima, who's also Amy's co-creator, remained in Japan to work on Sonic the Hedgehog CD. Amy's other co-creator Kazuyuki Hoshino created the in-game graphics that would be used for classic Amy Rose. Both Sonic CD and Sonic 2 were being worked on at the same time, but in two different countries by the same team, Sonic Team. But Sonic CD was originally supposed to come out in 1992 before Sonic 2, but it was delayed to late 1993 because of technical problems Sonic Team in Japan ran into with SEGA CD's game engines and processors. As a result, Sonic 2 was released first in 1992. Sonic CD, as stated by Naoto Ohshima who directed that project, is the SEGA CD version of the original Sonic the Hedgehog that was released on the SEGA Genesis, meaning that classic Sonic met classic Amy before he met classic Tails.
But a lot of Sonic fans and game journalists had confused Sonic CD as a revamp Sonic 2, which it isn't.
In Japan, SEGA of Japan and Sonic Team introduced Amy Rose, who's also known by her other canon name "Rosy the Rascal," and the Sonamy shipping in April 1992 through a non-canon Japan exclusive Sonic manga. In that manga, Amy was the girlfriend of a nerdy glasses-wearing hedgehog name Nicky who possessed the hidden ability, even unknown to himself, to transformed into the superhero Sonic the Hedgehog. Naoto Ohshima created the original design for Amy Rose, which was finalized by Kazuyuki Hoshino, who based Amy's personality, characteristics and mannerism on what he found attractive in women at the time. In other words, Kazuyuki Hoshino was attracted to women who acted like Amy Rose and in an interview he explained how Amy Rose is Minnie Mouse to Sonic's Mickey Mouse. When Amy Rose made her official debut in Sonic CD, she became a loved female hedgehog and Sonic fans in Japan loved and admired her optimism, strong will and determination to win Sonic's love and affections. Also, SEGA of Japan and Sonic Team love Amy Rose.
When Sonic CD came to America however, SEGA of America disrespected Sonic Team and SEGA of Japan by changing classic Amy Rose's canon name to Princess Sally Acorn in the printed game manual. They did this because at the time the non-canon Sonic cartoon spin-off Sonic SatAM was airing on ABC-7 and they were trying to force blend the canon Sonic game continuity with Sonic SatAM because in SatAM Sonic and Sally were a couple, which went against Sonic Team's established canon Sonamy shipping in their games. But SEGA of America's actions caused massive confusion among American gamers and fans of Sonic SatAM as they saw that classic Amy Rose was an 8-year-old pink hedgehog in love with Sonic and not a brown teenage chipmunk which Sally Acorn was. This mistake was later corrected and rectified. Classic Amy Rose later became a playable character in Sonic R and Sonic the Fighter.
Amy's modern Sonic redesign for Sonic Adventure, which came out for the SEGA Dreamcast in 1998 in Japan, was done by Sonic Team member Yuji Uekawa and her age was officially changed to 12 years old. And since then, Sonic Team officially established Amy Rose as the heroine, lead female protagonist and Sonic's love interest who appeared in most modern Sonic games either as a playable or non-playable character. Sonic Team confirmed that Sonic loves Amy but is too shy to confess his feelings to her and always runs away because he's afraid of his feelings for her. Sonic Twitter Takeover #4 also confirmed this.
This is why in all of the Sonic video games produced by Sonic Team, they give lots of hints and clues of Sonic's feelings for Amy and in Sonic Adventure 2, Dr. Eggman called Amy Sonic's girlfriend and Sonic did't deny it. In an episode of Sonic Boom, a show that was also supervised by Sonic Team, when Sonic, out of public embarrassment, denied Dr. Eggman's statement about Amy being his (Sonic's) whiny little girlfriend, the lie detector machine called Sonic out for lying.
Sonic SatAM and Archie Sonic aren't canon. They never were and never will be. SatAM was a cartoon spin-off created and written by the late Ben Hurst who passed away in 2010. SatAM was a non-cartoon cartoon spin-off that lasted for only 2 season when it premiered on ABC-7 back in November 1992 and that cartoon shipped the non-canon Sonally pairing, Sonic with Sally Acorn. Ben Hurst was the one who stated that Sally Acorn was his favorite character. That was also when SEGA of America partnered with Archie Comics Publishing and started producing Archie Sonic which leeched tremendously on SatAM, especially after the show got cancelled after two seasons by new management at ABC-7. SatAM fans turned to Archie Sonic comics as the unofficial continuation of SatAM.
Archie Comics at the time had shown heavy favoritism towards Sonic SatAM. When classic Amy was introduced into Archie Sonic, she was turned into Archie Sonic comics' punching bag for a lot of misrepresentations and hate from SatAM die-hards, especially Sonally fans who saw Amy Rose as a threat to their favorite SatAM princess and to the non-canon Sonally shipping that Archie Sonic was pushing out. Archie Sonic staff stripped Amy of her canon roles, gave them to Sally Acorn and demonized Amy as a bratty Sonic fangirl. After Sonic Adventure debuted with the modern Sonic characters on the SEGA Dreamcast, in Archie Sonic, Karl Bollers wrote that classic Amy physically turned into modern Amy by using and exhausting the powers of the Ring of Acorns, but still had her old classic Amy personality, meaning that modern 12-year-old Amy was retarded with a mind of an 8-year-old. And they painted Amy as selfish since Sally Acorn was originally going to use the Ring of Acorns to help heal her mother. Western pop culture and Archie Sonic writers before Ian Flynn did no justice to Amy's character, portrayed her as a violent obsessed fangirl, and pushed her into background in favor of their favorite SatAM princess Sally Acorn.
When Ken Penders came on the scene as head writer, he was the one who tried to establish the 25-30 years story arc that involved Sonic and Sally being married with 2 kids (Manic and Sonia) and ruled the Acorn Kingdom and Tails being married to Mina Mongoose and having two kids with her and Knuckles having a daughter with Julie'Su name Lara'Su..He tried to get that story, which was categorized as a "What If" in Archie Sonic Universe, to be canon to the main story in Archie Sonic. His intentions for that was because he was planning to use Archie Sonic as his launchpad for his Lara'Su Chronicles comic series. But when Ian Flynn and others in Archie Comics called Ken Penders out for his true intentions, he left Archie Comics, and Ian Flynn took over as head writer with the objective to make Archie Sonic more like the games.
What people don't know was that SEGA of America was already looking to cancel the Archie Sonic series back in the early 2013 during the time Ken Penders took Archie Comics, SEGA of America, EA Games and Bioware to court for copyright infringement and accusing SEGA of America, EA Games and Bioware for making game characters and stories too similar to his Dark Legion echidna clan. Also, Ken Penders said that Archie Comics could use his characters on the conditions that his 25-30 years later story arc he wrote for Archie Sonic had to be canon to the main story in Archie Sonic. He also wanted each issue using his characters to have his approval as a third party editor company before going into print with him getting royalties with each of those issue.
Archie Comics refused to agree to Ken Penders' terms because if they had agreed to them, they would have instantly lost their contract with SEGA of America and the license to continue publishing Sonic comics. Instead, Archie Comics decided to reboot and rewrite Archie Sonic in order to remove everything that involved Ken Penders' characters and stories and to make the comics more like the canon video games produced by Sonic Team. Ian Flynn, concerned that SEGA of America would demand the permanent removal of the Freedom Fighters from the comics and have the comics focus only on the game characters, suggested to SEGA of America to have the Freedom Fighters redesigned to look more like Sonic game characters and not like their original SatAM designs that were associated with Ken Penders' work. SEGA of America allowed it, and Archie Comics rewrote the background and origin stories of the Freedom Fighters.

SEGA of Japan however has always hated SatAM and the Freedom Fighters since Day 1 back in the early 1990s and had vehemently rejected all of the Freedom Fighters' designs and concepts. One of the biggest reasons why SEGA of Japan rejected SatAM and the Freedom Fighters was because they, including Sonic and Tails in that cartoon, were all designed with four fingers instead of five. In Japan, the Yakuza is very feared criminal mafia and they're infamously known for chopping off fingers of their victims. SEGA of Japan of didn't want characters that their people in Japan would have associated with the Yakuza's tendency to chop off fingers.
When SEGA of America had partnered up with Archie Comics Publishing and started Archie Sonic years ago in 1992, they did this independently without SEGA of Japan's or Sonic Team's involvement or approval. That later became a source of absolute frustration for both SEGA of Japan and Sonic Team because Sally and the Freedom Fighters took away attention from their canon game characters, Archie Sonic ignored and disregarded the canon Sonamy shipping and Archie Sonic's misrepresentations of their mascot and game characters contradicted Sonic Team's work and their game characters' canon portrayals in the games. There was no official connection between Archie Sonic and Sonic Team's video games.
And it wouldn't be until sometime in January 2017 when SEGA of Japan sent out a cease and desist order to Archie Comics to stop publishing and selling Archie Sonic, and that was when Archie Comics' contract and licensing agreement with SEGA of America was up for renewal. Archie Comics wasn't able to get a new contract and licensing agreement from SEGA of America because SEGA of Japan wanted to take their mascot, their game characters and the Sonic comic series in a new direction with IDW Publishing. That was why Archie Sonic subscriptions were being cancelled and refunds to customers for future issues that were never going to be published were given. That was also why there was that six-month silence from Archie Comics Publishing about why there were no new Archie Sonic issues being made and sold with the "Still in talks with SEGA" excuse they were using. It was also why Archie Comics removed Sonic from their website and from the app store and why Mobius Encyclopedia and other Archie Sonic related magazines and comics were being sold quickly with no reprints of them being legally possible. This was also why the Archie Sonic comic series and Archie Sonic Universe series and Sonic Overdrive were unceremoniously cancelled without compromise and without any proper conclusions to those series, and why SEGA of America terminated their publishing partnership with Archie Comics on July 19, 2017.
Months ago, Ian Flynn have tweeted about wanting to bring Sally and the Freedom Fighters into IDW Sonic. But he also stated that it's completely out of his hands and not his decision to make. And SEGA had on several occasions rejected some of Ian Flynn's ideas for IDW Sonic. And Ian Flynn in a Bumblekast stated that SatAM doesn't advertise SEGA's products, meaning their video games and merchandise, and how that's bad for SEGA's business. When Naoto Ohshima, Sonic's and Amy's co-creator, was asked on Twitter what he thought about Sally and the Freedom Fighters, he openly stated that he never read Archie Sonic comics and ended the conversation right there with a "Thank you."
SatAM and Archie Sonic fans can make as many online petitions as they want for the Freedom Fighters to be brought and made regulars in IDW Sonic. But SEGA of Japan and Sonic Team won't allow it and they won't allow Sally Acorn to be a rival to Amy Rose who's, as Sonic Team described it, their Minnie Mouse to Sonic's Mickey Mouse. In IDW Sonic issue #2, Amy Rose confessed her love to Sonic and told him she loves him and why she does and that she doesn't want to change who he is. Since her confession, Sonic's attitude and actions towards Amy have completely changed and he's been showing more clear signs of his romantic interest in Amy, especially since she isn't chasing him like she used to anymore.
On Monday, May 4, 2020, Sonic Team and SEGA of Japan has officially begun publishing, printing and selling IDW Sonic comics in Japanese in Japan. This was officially stated on Sonic Channel, Sonic Team's official website, and reported on by TSSZ News. This is concrete proof that IDW Sonic is legitimate and 100% canon to the modern Sonic video games produced by Sonic Team. SEGA of Japan and Sonic Team established the new IDW Sonic comic series as directly and officially connected to their modern Sonic video games and as the canon continuation of Sonic Forces as stated by the head of Sonic Team, Takashi Iizuka.
@@mangaprime478 So Sega of Japan seems to have a problem with Sally Acorn's presence due to rivaling Amy as a love interest... but they allowed a human princess to make out with him in his sleep.
Also I thought I heard somewhere that there is a mandate specifically designed to keep Sonic & Amy from being an official romance couple, and a mandate added (I think) in 2013 to keep Sonic from explicitly falling in love at all. Assuming that's true, then I don't see why they need to even make a big deal about the Freedom Fighters or the Sonamy relationship.
Then again, I'm already highly convinced that Sega of Japan is just scattered brain and has no idea what they're even doing at this point.
I'm not sure that the IDW comic is canon to the games. I do think it still serves the role of merchandising and supplemental material like the Archie comic did, but this time being much more aligned with the vision of Sonic Team.
That said, I do find it very interesting how the IDW Sonic comic is the first western Sonic comic to ever be published in Japan, which along with other cooperations such as Uekawa drawing one of the covers featuring Whisper and Tangle, marks another first because it's an actual ST member doing official art for comic exclusive characters.
I do hope though that some of the positive things being shown in the comic, particularly how Tails was done justice after being so awfully misrepresented in both Lost World and Forces, or the way that Sonic and Amy's dynamic is being featured as him growing more warm to the idea of being in her company, and Amy returning to a more balanced state where her crush is but just one of the many facets the character has to offer.
I do hope that all of this efforts can shape up a brighter future for this franchise. ^_^

But Movie Sonic isn't completely alone. He has Tom and Maddie.
Honestly, I could see Amy being Sonic’s estrange sister rather than a stalker after a boyfriend. That just seems more appropriate in terms of how the film presented itself. He’s been alone for several years, has no interactivity to anyone outside a few humans, only knows his basic childhood under the guidance of that man’s owl and literally is the only species of his kind on earth. Having Amy come up out of nowhere and falling in love with him wouldn’t make sense to me as they’ve had zero connection. But if she were is his sister, it would be more believable as it would explain why Sonic was living with mama owl and not with his own kind. And that there are potentially more hedgehogs like him out there with the super speed (Amy is actually as fast as Tails, both of which can run faster than sound at peak. Although Sonic naturally rubs faster than sound without breaking a sweat where Tails and Amy need to push themselves to their limit to do that).
Anyway, for me and for the story to make sense (in the film) it would be better if Amy were his sister. They were speared at a very young age due to Sonic’s latent ability, Amy finds out that her brother is alive and in another world and goes to find him after coming of age. Again, it wouldn’t make sense for Amy to suddenly go to earth randomly and just fall in love with Sonic immediately without a motive to go to earth in the first place. Especially since there’s no way for her to have known he even existed. Them being siblings clears up most of the loop and plot holes for her to arrive on earth.
But this is my opinion. Personally, I never liked the whole stalker aspect of Amy. It’s a shallow character trait for lazy writers to throw in as a means to have conflict. Amy is a better character than that. And deserves more motivation and depth then her singular goal of “marrying Sonic against his will”.
Hell no. They are the perfect couple they balance each other perfectly. And Amy doesn't actually want to settle down she said in adventures she misses the fun.
Controversial Mann Game characters and Movie characters are not the same. For the movie to make logical and thematic sense, I propose for her to be his estranged sister rather than a random girl who becomes Sonic’s stalker. Read the whole comment next time before voicing your opinion because you seem to not understand why I said what I said.
