Thank you Dave so much for once again being the coolest cat ever and helping this get out and stay out !! You’ve always been the best frontman/entertainer ever ! The definitive soundtrack to my childhood was you and Van Halen ! The one and only Diamond David Lee Roth! Thank you man🙏!!
This is one of the greatest rock documentaries I’ve ever watched. Thanks for making this! Wow. What a treasure for Fans of the greatest rock band 🎸 ever!!!
This is going to be a good one!! Roth rules, as he once told Axle Rose and Sebastian Bach in the back of a limousine, how does it feel to be great pretenders to the throne! Long live Diamond Dave, King frontman of rock and roll! Dave built and to this day owns that throne! 🤟
They all tried to be like Diamond Dave. Especially Vince Neil of Motley Crue. Listen to way Neil talked in the 80's. It was so fake. He tried so hard to be like the inimatable Diamond Dave but a keen listener could see right through it. Brett Michaels of Poison did the same thing. Everybody wanted to be Dave. Dude was, and still is, bigger than Elvis
It was actually in a club, I believe the Rainbow, and he sent both of them a handwritten apology letter afterward. I think they both told the story on Stern.

I was there for three days. You could never duplicated this again, the world was in a better place back then. Glad I got to see this part of America before we turned into this mess we are today..
The 1980s was the peak of humanity. The peak of creativity. The last era when things were normal. Human beings were entirely different...almost like an alien species compared to people of today. If you were blessed enough to have experienced the 80s then you are one lucky person.
Greatest comment. I tell this to my 19 year old. It is a lost time that will never return. He has fully embraced 80s music 🎶 Kids have nothing in terms of musical talent to anchor themselves in the current climate. Truly sad.
Man there were cool times in the 90’s too. I’ve seen a ton since being born in 1966. Now I don’t remember much about the 60’s. But the 70’s as a kid was incredible. The 80’s were cool. The 90’s were cool but I get it. That was the start of people and society losing they damn minds.

WOW! Guess we all have different experiences with Mr Roth, let me share mine. Saw Roth 5 times with VH and once on his own at the Del Mar Fair in SD CA. Starting in 78 after their fist album -- and I was there at the US Festival in 83. In 78 I was 15 yrs old born and raised in LA County CA, all thee other shows were at the LA Forum. In 78 Roth performed well *3 songs "I forgot the phucking words" which was funny at the time, went back to school told my friends thought it was a novelty. Then each show after that was a phucking JOKE! I soon realized this guy is not coming prepared to his shows. Only his circus act and outfits are prepared. More than half the songs Roth never sang `all the lyrics, and the "I forgot the phucking words" was becoming redundant! It was soooo bad at the US Festival that out of 300k people waiting for the headliner VH, 200k walked out because of Roth. It was like the exodus of Egypt, on the right side of the stage, i'll never forget that image in my mind. Everyone was saying Scorpions took the show followed by Judas Priest, Triumph and Ozzy. Out of 5 shows with VH Roth was a major major major disappointment 4 out of the 5 shows that I saw VH. What was mind boggling at the Del Mar Fair in the 90's I took my wife and young daughter to the Fair we watched Roth and lol i'm here to tell you I was freaking out the guy sang all the words/lyrics and no mistakes just put on an epic performance,! Live Roth was a joke and an extreme dissapointmen 70% of the time! Don't believe me? Ask the 200k people who at the US Festival waited for the headliner VH and suffered in the extreme heat just to get the phuck out of there because of Roth. Whats your top 10 favorite bands? Now imagine seeing said bands and the drummer or the singer or the guitarist "forgets" his or her parts half of the time they're up there lol I mean would you speak up, or shut up?? Sorry Roth will not get a pass with me, maybe with you people that didn't see him live... Just holding up the Mirror, guess y'all don't like what you see and/or like the truth. Not trying to bash Mr Roth just telling my experiences, and sick of hearing lmAO "he's the greatest" shat. Couldn't imagine paying high dollar to see Elton John or whoever and he's phucking up every 3rd song lol. Peace (and sorry long winded.)
Van Halen fan here for over 40 years. When I was growing up I tried desperately to learn to play the guitar and had long blonde hair. I thought I could be a combination of Eddie and David together. Well neither one worked out lol. Still they rock to this day I crank him just as loud as I possibly can. Miss Eddie seems like the world's not the same without him. Good video.
@@chrisbyrne5358I'll take Freddie as well. Plus Freddie could really play the piano and had a much better vocal range. Unfortunately he died too young. The positive is he didn't grow old and become a boring parody of himself.
It's funny how many urban legends have surrounded the story of VH and the US Fest. I had always heard that Dave flew in from the Amazon the day before the show. And I thought that was the case - until today when I watched this doc. 😂 So glad Dave is supporting and spreading this dude's awesome VH work.
Watching this and the part where they are playing ice cream man came on. I’m reminded of what an incredible solo Ed laid down on that. The stretch is insane.
Thank you @TheTapesArchive ! I didn’t know all the back stories, giving me deeper insights! I didn’t go to the show but I taped the Van Halen portion when they broadcasted on TV and watched so many times…. Good times! 🎉
I worked both US Festivals. Put up the chain link fences, the tent company we hooked up with brought the Bolivian marching powder to VH. There wasn't an ATM with cash within 100 miles. They were glad to see us after the shows to even up. VH was way happy for the attention they got from us. No charge.
Great voice over, voice. Thanks for the hard work to let is see this part of music history. What an epic concert. How cool is that to spend millions to bring together such a great bunch of musicians.
Absolutely amazing to finally see at least one episode of this documentary. Fantastic work from the Tapes Archive. Thanks David Lee Roth! You are my hero.
Salute to the greatest band to have walked this planet. Hagar was great. Had all the vocal gymnastics etc. But he would never have the sheer charisma of Roth. Never! How I would love to have seen this band live/in concert. Alas, they never toured my country. I would pay good money for a decent dvd.
As a stroke surviving drummer of the 80s & early 90s who definately got wtf ever it was to get, & then some "now" lol, I always thought DLR was cool, but the past few yrs of watching clips & interviews, I realize he was much more than just cool, he was, & will always be legend. Seriously, I dont really keep up with the Taylor Swifts, Eminems, or whatevers popular these days, all I know is its no way in fucking hell, they could ever come close to living what he lived in that limited access / actual rock star era, & live to tell about it lol. DLR for the win! #themoreyouknow
Great Documentary and to me this is what rock n roll is all about having a good time so what if every note og vocal is not perfect looks like a great show
Oh, there was another pretty hungry, fast-and-furious, up-and-coming heavy metal band that in and around the time of the 1983 US Festival were still in NY, finishing their first album, they were from L.A. originally, too but lets say the early 80's metal scene couldn't handle them there, so they relocated to S.F., made it their new home/headquarters and over the next decade, became a heavier, faster, more aggressive form of music Van Halen could ever dream of. That band was Metallica and if 1983/84 was where Van Halen began reaching their creative/artistic peak, their worst, unadulterated forms of excesses began to slowly to rot the group from within, whereas Metallica was hungry, angry, ready to seek and destroy not just the heavy metal universe, but eventually a portion of late 20th century American music. Metallica was the Led Zeppelin of Gen-X, my generation as Zeppelin was from the late 60's-1980. That's the best, most accurate musical analogy I can compare Metallica to and even most of their hardcore fans I've talked to over the years agree with that analogy.
Bro. This is a Van Halen video and story. Theres plenty of Metallica videos where you can sniff their jocks. I dont go on Metallica vids and talk VH so dont do it here. Thanks
Memory Lane. Made the drive with 3 friends from San Diego, California. I was 19 at the time. Our goal was to work our way as close to the stage as possible once the first act started. By the time the Scorpions took the stage we were pretty close. It took us at least 8 to 10 hours and worth every minute! Favorite performances were Judas Priest, Scorpions and Van Halen. I still have my ticket stub from this iconic music event. So cool to see this footage there's not much in the internet with US festival coverage. Thanks to whom ever posted this for everyone to see!
We saw you at Selland Arena in Fresno... Sept 1978.... you were the warm up band for Black Sabbath... we weren't going to see BS but this new band that was supposed to be amazing... you did not disappoint.. BEST BAND EVER!!!!
We rented a '82 Cavalier in Vegas on Saturday morning and drove to Devore. We were somewhere around Barstow when the drugs kicked in. Got to Glen Helen Saturday night and partied all night in the parking lot. Will never forget the sunrise that Sunday morn as we made our way to the gates. Tix were $20. After the show Sun. nite the pkg lot traffic jam was insane. They had dirt-made burms to guide traffic. I dug out much as i cld of the burm with my bare hands. Got back in the Cav and punched it like Dukes of Hazzard. No time to wait, had to be in Vegas to catch a 8am flight home and barely made it bc we still had to stop at the Las Vegas Hilton to get our things. Most memorable event of my life. And we did it all for Van Halen.
VH will always be an amazing milestone in rock history. With that being said, to make the claim Triumph was past their prime is sophomoric. Their performance is posted on YT and they were tight and on that day. Ric Emmett is an underappreciated and extremely talented guitar player and way better singer than DLR.
Ric Emmett is a very underrated guitarist and a very intelligent charismatic Canadian and I remember watching this on MTV in parts stretched out over probably 6 Saturday nights and probably the last two broken down episodes repeated twice. Played like the actual concert. In genres. Great memories for a wide eyed 12 year old lol.
Triumphs performance was too me top 3. I had an album or 2 being from TO, so Canadian music was pushed on radio stations but their performance in the broad daylight either before Motley Crue or right after was energized and tight with Emmett playing fantastic guitar and singing his heart out while doing the hard rock triathalon and stealing the show. Not bad for another power trio hailing from Toronto
Wow! A blast from the past. I was at there on that day. It was a long day in that blazing heat. It was a week after my 17th birthday, good thing they served me beer in the beer garden. I was a little disappointed at the end. Van Halen being my favorite band and already seeing them live a couple times previously disappointed a bit leaving the crowd waiting so long to come on stage when people were already burned out. The band was great as usual but David so wasted forgetting his words was a bit embarrassing. All in all a day I will never forget 🎤🎸
thank yo for producing this video- great tribute to the essence of VH in their orignial Arena Rock phase - so fun to experience and the video brings that energy back!

This was an absolutely amazing and legendary performance, period. 🔥🤘🏻
David Lee Roth rules!!!
Get a life
@@jamiemoffatt50 😃
Van Halen fan here for over 40 years.
When I was growing up I tried desperately to learn to play the guitar and had long blonde hair.
I thought I could be a combination of Eddie and David together.
Well neither one worked out lol.
Still they rock to this day I crank him just as loud as I possibly can.
Miss Eddie seems like the world's not the same without him.
Good video.
Dave still rocks
But can't sing anymore
Wow, many thanks for this memorable concert.
Cheers from Italy.
Yes we need you more than ever now!
DLR is the greatest frontman of all time. 100%
Ever heard of Freddie Mercury?
@@chrisbyrne5358 of course. DAVID LEE ROTH is the greatest frontman of all time. Nuff said
Roth is the guy at the 13:01 mark. Right?
@@johnnyo8903 Haha!! Nah thats Bobby Blotzer!
Thank you! I will post the other episodes on my channel. 🤘🍻
Watching this and the part where they are playing ice cream man came on. I’m reminded of what an incredible solo Ed laid down on that. The stretch is insane.
Really happy to see this work recognized, and appreciated. Thanks Dave. I’ve followed.
Thank you @TheTapesArchive ! I didn’t know all the back stories, giving me deeper insights! I didn’t go to the show but I taped the Van Halen portion when they broadcasted on TV and watched so many times…. Good times! 🎉
Very welcomed!! I'll be dropping the other episodes on my channel.
This awesome documentary is finally back online!
Thank you! I will be posting the other episodes on my channel.
Thank you Dave for posting this! This is such a great video,.
DLR comes through for us again !!! Great Documentary!!!
I loved this! It's also time for a proper video of the concert! Long Live THE MIGHTY VAN HALEN!!!!!
I worked both US Festivals. Put up the chain link fences, the tent company we hooked up with brought the Bolivian marching powder to VH. There wasn't an ATM with cash within 100 miles. They were glad to see us after the shows to even up. VH was way happy for the attention they got from us. No charge.
This show was historic for one reason ya never hear about. It was the last show Eddie ever played
with Frankie, the iconic Frankenstrat.
Not bad. Thanks for making it. You definitely brought up some good points that I never knew about this historic concert.
Great voice over, voice. Thanks for the hard work to let is see this part of music history. What an epic concert. How cool is that to spend millions to bring together such a great bunch of musicians.
Thank you! I will be posting the other episodes on my channel.
The one music event I wish I would have witnessed.
Greatest band ever!
Was at Castle Donington in 84 and that was a special day too
Absolutely amazing to finally see at least one episode of this documentary.
What an amazing time to be alive.
Thanks for the smiles today Dave
As a stroke surviving drummer of the 80s & early 90s who definately got wtf ever it was to get, & then some "now" lol, I always thought DLR was cool, but the past few yrs of watching clips & interviews, I realize he was much more than just cool, he was, & will always be legend. Seriously, I dont really keep up with the Taylor Swifts, Eminems, or whatevers popular these days, all I know is its no way in fucking hell, they could ever come close to living what he lived in that limited access / actual rock star era, & live to tell about it lol. DLR for the win! #themoreyouknow
Thank you, Alan Berry, for this GREAT video of VAN HALEN!!!!!!!
DLR my favorite and that era of VH was the BEST. I saw them twice in the 80s, absolutely amazing.
Great Documentary and to me this is what rock n roll is all about having a good time so what if every note og vocal is not perfect looks like a great show
Good stuff. This was the prime of my life and it wouldn't have been the same without the mighty VanHalen ... and priest was bad ass that day too.
6:48 I always love when David Lee Roth was walking into the stadium on this festival. He was saying “yes, we’re the best” 😂😂😂😂😂
Goosebumps. YEA BABY!!!!
Thanks for giving this doc a platform, Dave!
I will be posting the other episodes on my channel.
Thank you Allan and thank you Dave. Perfect. Just perfect.
Thank You Dave!!!❤
Thank you Alan Berry the great video of VAN HALEN!
You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed it.
Love it! I hope you publish the other episodes.
Thank you! I will be posting the other episodes on my channel.
@@TheTapesArchive I've been excited to see them since the trailer was put out. You're doing some fantastic work!
Stellar episode for a stellar band.
Thanks for sharing with the fans Dave! Great video
All in all a day I will never forget 🎤🎸
this is great, Thank you Dave
Thanks for posting, this was great! In typical DLR fashion, he sure knew how to push the buttons on The Clash - LOL.
Awesome footage Thanks DLR.
AWESOME VIDEO OF THE BEST GUITARIST OF THE 20th CENTURY. VAN HALEN ROCKS FOREVER. I GOT TO SEE THEM FOUR TIMES. ALL THREE LEAD SINGERS. AWESOME 🇺🇸💜🎸
thank yo for producing this video- great tribute to the essence of VH in their orignial Arena Rock phase - so fun to experience and the video brings that energy back!
You are awesome Dave!!
This should be teached in school ! \m/ LONG LIVE THE MASTER !!

Love this Dave. I'd pay for an affordable official Van Halen documentary if I had to, but thank you for your help.
Love the song David Lee Roth!!!!
Its 3:35am and i just come across this video...Holy Smoke man im so damn happy right now i almost started doing shots along with Dave in the video😂😂 Thank you so much for this!! Just subbed 😊😊
I SURVIVED THE 80S!!! ALL OF IT!!!❤❤❤😂
Sweet you are releasing these 🙌
Dave, it’s cool that you back this documentary. I saw it when it was first put out, and it’s very well put together.
This concert/performance needs a proper release.
Let's hope that this recording will survive whatever next massive collapse of humanity is to come next, such that the next civilization to rise will see this was the pinnacle of our achievement this go around.
This is why the DLR version of VH will forever rule!
Amen!!!!!
There really wasn't a Van Halen after Dave left
@@williamsherman1089I agree 110%..!!
@@williamsherman1089Amen!
F’in’ AWESOME job here, bud!! Thank you for letting me re-live this moment in time. I was completely unaware of the VH/Clash rivalry. A bit immature but epic just the same.
