    Ive been treasure hunting for 10 years now and this find tops them all. We were sifting near the river when my shovel uncovered an ancient, personal Native American artifact. Hope you enjoy the video.

    Have you contacted a historical society yet? Proper excavation of a site can reveal more than the artifacts themselves. Get some pros in there

    Makes sense because of its a seasonal camp, the points are gonna be concentrated in a smaller area., and taper off as you get further away from it

    Looks like a huge piece of flint. Probably really good flint if it was buried, perfect for knapping. You can usually tell by the way it sounds when you tap it, although you guys probably figured out what it is by now. Great finds!

    Hey Zach, great finds as always! I don't know if I mentioned this before, but I have a cousin who is a geologist. He graduated from the South Dakota School of Mines. I'd be happy to put you two in touch. I don't know how much he knows about Native American artifacts, but I do know he's pretty much a genius. He wanted to be a paleontologist at age three, and pursued that until he graduated from college. He was happy with geology at that point. If he doesn't know the answer, I'm sure he knows someone who will.

    8:58 Zach. They didn’t make points to just drop them. They made them for hunting and war. Are you on the East side of the river?
    If so they stopped on the East side to knap them points on their way to make war and that was usually in summer. So good springs that didn’t dry up was key. Just some insight I have read.

    When your phone rang during the cleaning I thought it was background music post-edited. Now that would be a low-tech way to add music in the background during the arduous digging and then other music to dramatize the finds. Just thinking out loud.

    That is outstanding, I've NEVER seen such a nicer artifact ever found. Maybe one or two in 14 years but not many! If anything other than a rock. The big rock has a pretty round hole in it. I presume maybe a fire rock? Cause it would make sense they made items around a fire. Maybe if the hole is still open look for charcoal debris/burnt wood. Happy Hunting, congratulations you earned that Gorget!!

      Depends they also use to attach them to atlatl for weight so they could launch atlatl darts farther and get better penetration on larger game like bison and mammoth a long time ago. I think thousands of years later after they switched to bows they probably started to wear them for some reason or we just think they did nobody really knows anything it's all just theory really.

    Well back in the day, they would have different areas where they would do different things, also they would throw broken flint and things in areas so they would not cut their feet, it would almost be like walking on glass. So it seems like you could be in and area where they discarded things they didn't need anymore..and other things could have gotten lost in the area...just my point of view

    • @old-medalseeker6761
      @old-medalseeker6761 2 года назад

      Find a good creek or river. You can easily hunt sandbars. I will say finding a creek on private land and get permission is the way to go. I think most states allows private property hunting.
