Holy shit! The good old S38 is pure brute force! PT8285 is one hell of a turbo! Can't wait to see it do a propper road pull!! A friend of mine pulled a similair-ish 1167 WHP on a 3.2 S54 dual vanos with E85. Thats pushing 1300+BHP.

+Peter Muelltonner S54s are usually bored 0.5mm oversize to accomodate perfect new conditions for the forged pistons. As you say, there is a limit, driving 900whp all day for a while will result in issues, if not in the cylinders, usally to rod and crank journals. And the odd valve popping a shims. The setup of the S54 is not perfect in that way, compared to S50s and S38 with 2 part cylinderheads. For head gaskets they use cut ring grove "cooperring"s from PPF / Athena.

But ok, obviously the thin cylinder walls are an issue actually. But you can't use a normal M50 block and throw the S54 internals in, can you? I think the S54 block is different... It's a long block, isn't it? I heard of Cooperrings, will also need one when I build my M50 E30 turbo. What do you mean by 2 part cylinderheads?
+Peter Muelltonner Most of my friends S54s are just lightly subjected to 1000+ hp load on the track. It's just a matter of seconds.. If you'd run a racing series with slicks at a propper big racetrack, at 30 psi there would be issues. And your right, they hardly have issues, becuase they hit top power so little. The few times things have occured it's been due to backfiring in the intake where a shims then popped at 8000rpm. Also excessive heat from burnout (se my 1000hp s54 e30 video and you'll see) witch kills the bearings. The wheelspinn videos effectivly only uses 500-800hp, you can't get more into the ground. After figuring out how to apply dual vanos setup the whole equation changed, and the down load drivability made it a mini V8. Again, the 1000hp e30 has a 80mm turbo (!). Go then and watch the E21 video with no vanos and 1000hp. Difference is aprox 100% torque gain at 4000rpm. On the flip side, that requires way more active boost control trough the mid range to not break sylinder blocks or transmission. And it's here we are worried. When HPF in the US was around they claimed they broke many 900hp ish engines, and opted for sleeves for their 1000hp+ customers. Over there they also have a hotter climate, and usually worse fuel grade. We run E85 exclusivly on these E85 with greatly helps any part of the combution proscess. Pulling this numbers on pump fuel is not going to happen if you're not putting a huge drag race turbo on and pulls the ignition to the south pole. I wouldn't consider cylinder walls a problem, I haven't seen any cases of that in normal used trackday cars. Sleeves is also a lot of trial and error. HPF had plenty of issues. If you search "Marcus's block.wmv" you'll se what can happen with poorly executed install and the challenges that comes with it. Regarding M50 block they don't fit with S54 parts, different bore, stroke etc. And S54 stock rods and pistons are useless for 500hp+. You need forged stuff all over. Valves are racing valves made on a budget, so a high hp turbo S54 owner would be alot safer with racing spec valves and some stiffer springs if going 30PSI crazy. Regarding the cylinder head, the S54 is one part cylinder head. The S50 euro and S38 have a two part cylinder head. One for the valvetrain and one for the rockers and cams. S54 have way different rocker design relative to the valve location. What you need to know about cooperrings is this: If staying in the 15-18 PSI range it would probably be better with a o-ringed design or a MLS on the M50. Cooperrings usually means pistons meltdown with heavy knock. That is the flipside of a propper headgasket.

Entschuldigung, I'll refer to English for this as that is much more convenient for me, I thought I'd make an effort in German but apparently failed at that :) What I was saying is basically that 2 bar on one turbo isn't the same as 2 bar on another, this turbo pumps alot of air at 2 bar and hence the pressure by its self on a turbo car doesn't mean anything.

Fertige Software gibt es nicht. Da fängt man komplett von 0 an. Mache das seit 2006. Gekauft, eingebaut und jahrelang getestet.
