    Very interesting! This resembles Finnish jewelry pieces, and also the Brutalist movement. Love the bark effect. Great way to use up loose stones. Thank you so much for this demo! Best part was - NO MUSIC!
    What happens to the bark inside? Entombed forever?
    I also love your Quick Change Dremel - mine needs a wrench and drives me nuts.

    Hi @Jason Welsh could you please make a video about how get a shine straight out of the tank. I am working with your free solution recipe. I used the brightener recipe you shared and set the power supply as you recommend yet I am having a dull salmon colored result that is not shiny and in fact a very flat finish. So I was hoping you could make a start to finished piece tutorial piece. I seem just to missing something it would really help if you could get it all in one place.

    Great demo, thank you! Question: why would you not glue the proper bail and the stone right away on the raw piece instead of plating part way, taking it out, and gluing them then? It seems to be an extra step that is not necessary? Or am I missing something?

    • @ddraelynkhar

  • @shannonwalton8304
    @shannonwalton8304 4 года назад +3

    Just a tip, put the bail on going front to back. That way a chain can go through without needing another bail.

    • @lass-inangeles7564
      @lass-inangeles7564 4 года назад

      This is actually a jump ring, not a bail. The bail is wider and more decorative and matches the chain. You add that later. The jump ring is stuck to the pendant. Bails can be removed.

      Play around with different patents techniques. The item with come out ofnthe bath rathe pink. Pure copper. You can get some shine by carefully polishing/buffing it (by hand with barkeepers friend for instance or with a soft wheel on a dremel. Just dont go over board and break through you micronfineblayer) or play with different chemical treatments. A longnsoak in liver of sulphur for instance can get you to matte black. A quick dip inthe dame chemical when very hot followed by a dip in ice water sometimes gives you a bit of rainbow. Buy a bit of copper sheet or pipe for experimenting on. The liver of sulphur is like7 bucks on Amazon for the concentrated gel and will last forever.

  • @rachelkelly192

    Isn't this electroplating? You are coating the bark in copper-the bark is still present in the finished piece. Electroforming would be creating a copper bark but removing the original tree bark, so your copper version is separate.

    Hi, I've been struggling to get the copper to plate onto some leaves. Ive painted them with graphite mixed with mod podge, but it did not work. The metal clasp did get coated, however. I dont know if its the solution, the voltage or the paint. Ive tried 3 different paints thus far. Any helpful tips?

    • @korrieholmes8209
      @korrieholmes8209 5 лет назад

      If it's not plating then you have not mixed enough graphite to your modge podge, keep adding graphite and test it on something until it allows the current to flow :)

    • @kellyvcraig
      @kellyvcraig 5 лет назад

      @vmk If the flower is floating, you need to use heavier copper wire to hold keep it submerged in the solution.

  • @felixdietzCGN
    @felixdietzCGN 6 лет назад +1

    Could you show breaking a part? I guess since the copper is only a few atoms in thickness, the piece just has the strength of bark + modpodge or am i wrong?

    • @korrieholmes8209
      @korrieholmes8209 5 лет назад +1

      You can form the copper to whatever thickness you like, if you want it to last you have to leave it in until it reaches the desired thickness, the longer it is in the solution the ticker it will be :)

      The support bars look like maybe 8 or 6 gauge grounding wire. He said he's using the strands from 14 gauge stranded wire to attach to each piece. As long as it's conductive and supports the weight of your work, any copper wire gauge is gonna work, this doesn't take a whole lot of current so you should be good with mostly anything
