Jeep Gets An Upgrade - Install & Showcase - Mule Expedition Outfitters | [S1E6] | Conquest Overland

For over 10 years Mule Expedition Outfitters has been the premiere overland specialty shop here in the Pacific Northwest. With having been a long time customer of theirs, even dating back to when I owned the Toyota Tacoma, there’s no other shop I’d rather go to. With a need of getting a couple upgrades done for auxiliary lighting around my Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe, it was an easy decision on where to go. I think the scene/rock lights were some of the most useful lights I have added to the Tacoma. Extremely useful not only for at camp but also running the trails.

Hello - I went to uptop overland and they don’t show a roof rack for the Grand Cherokee at all. Can you provide some guidance on what / how you got this rack for your truck?

I worked with upTOP in an effort for bringing this rack to market and from that the current rack I have is a prototype… I’ve personally reached out to upTOP on numerous occasions asking updates on this projects and have been told the same answer every time, “we are working on it.” That has been since October of 2023… Totally understand your frustration and I’m personally a bit upset to see any lack of effort on this rack going into production, even after reaching out on behalf of several Grand Cherokee owners…

I talked to representatives of this company at one of the Overland expos or Rallies, so I made the journey to Tualatin, Oregon to look into the possibility of external storage for my jeep grand Cherokee WK2. My experience there was being ignored for hours than belittled by the Young staff member who told me that because I drove a grand Cherokee, there was nothing that they could do for me. Nobody uses grand Cherokee for Overlanding, and that there is no availability of any kind of components, and it really wasn’t the solution for external storage on my vehicle. I was told I should go buy a jeep wrangler or a Toyota.

While I can't speak to your experience at the store due to not knowing all variables involved or the exact situation at hand, I can say that as a customer of Mule for nearly 10 years (long before I even started this RUclips thing) I've only experienced exceptional service during every visit, regardless of what vehicle I drove.
What I can attest to are your frustrations and being told by outside companies and individuals how unfavorable a Grand Cherokee is for this type of travel. Every aftermarket part you see on my Jeep (as well as my own mother who also drives a Grand Cherokee and has been featured in numerous videos on the channel) have all come with far greater efforts and trials than the other more popular overland vehicles. From driving clear across the country to get a prototype roof rack after being told by other manufacturers "they have no interest in making one for the Grand Cherokee", to finding solutions for alternatives means for camping by outfitting an interior sleeping systems instead of using an RTT. Even for this recent visit of getting ditch lights installed, I had to separately purchase the appropriate brackets by searching outside of what product vendors Mule carries in their stores (which I only found a singular company that does).
All this to say that the representative you had spoken to at the time may have not been as familiar with the Grand Cherokee platform due to many of the products and parts they carry are not offered for it. For this install I brought in a fair amount of my own parts to make this happen though I had to do the research beforehand to know otherwise vs. blaming the person behind the counter who simply may have not been as knowledgeable. It's unfortunate how overlooked this vehicle platform is though as an owner of one I'm here to showcase those opinions otherwise.
I hope in future needs you can give Mule a chance to gain back your business as they truly have been a valuable resource, especially for being the "outsider" in this overlanding world.
