Not crazy about fish boots or square toes, but Tecovas did recently release some green sueded caiman boots that looked really nice. As usual most of their stuff is overpriced though.
Very nice review Jeremiah! It's strange how companies start off with very good quality items at a fair price, then the greed sets-in & the quality goes down the tubes, while the prices go up.
Amen. They have an almost cultish following, which I do not understand, for what is a mediocre boot at best. However, if you like to try a lot of boots, you can ALWAYS sell a limited edition Tecovas to the people out there who love them.
I remember getting my Cartwrights a while back, fell in love with them. Back when they were cheap and had frequent sales, I only paid about $190 for them off the website. Hard to beat for a boot with a leather insole/ outsole/ heel + lemonwood pegs and good looks. Crazy that it’s now $345, disappointing.
I’m thinking Tecovas may not be sending you any Boots to review Lol…. That Black Jack looks amazing and i am not a fan of Pirarucu lol but those I like.
Tecovas is not a cowboy boot brand. They are half investment pool, half marketing department. I have not heard of any other footwear brand with more quality issues. Put the garbage in the garbage.
Omg I LOVE this video. So true. Even for people that wear D width boots, the fit is often garbage. My chelsea boots fit different than my zip boots, which fit different than my bison boots. If i hadnt been able to try them on in store or gotten them cheap from marketplace, id never have bought another pair after my Prescotts. Oh, and for the price of their made in mexico boots, i can spend a few more bucks and get BlackJack boots! In fact my blackjack fish boots were on sale and cost me LESS than the Tecovas. I really think they need to fix the sizing issues and make standard the different stuff. Their canyon relic lizard boots looked AWESOME.
Just started my western boot collection and so far I’m liking the Dan post and Rujo brand. Got a DH work boots that seem indestructible and Ariat Chelsea boot that I rock with my tapered jeans.
I have about 8 pairs of tecovas and I totally agree with most of what you said. D fits me most the time. Wide square toe was a miss and so was going with a dark color instead of a lighter color. What’s really disappointing is they made a super good work boot with safety toes now but mine ripped out in the shaft and I didn’t go down half a size. Just wool socks, I’m having them replaced now.
I have a pair of limited edition lizard Tecovas I really like. I had a pair of square toe goat Tecovas - loved the leather but the boot was average. Rujo is my go-to big internet marketed brand.
To all those commentators that are unsettled by this video here’s my advice… watch the video again. JC is saying, for the type of build of this boot, and for made in Mexico, these are now the most expensive boots on the market. Tecovas has been adding $50 to their retail price every 12 months, while you weren’t looking
Fair enough 👍 I bought (Dec 2024) from them a pair of boots and the same model, and leather, even was better quality I founded it 20% cheaper on boot barn - Cody James black 1978
Got my chisos and my ariat boots the benchmade line these company's really care unlike tecovas rock on jeremiah im glad you speak the truth and support brands that are actually worth supporting!
I have one pair of Tecovas. Never wear them. I'd sell them but no one else wants them either! My favorite for the past three decades is still Luchesse and even they aren't what they used to be. Anyone try Old Gringo?
I was looking at Tecovas and then I discovered Hyer. Bought a pair of Hyer and so far so good. Would love for you to give us your thoughts on what you think of Hyer boots.
I was really hoping that they would release a round toe instead of this square toe, you see this type of boots everywhere, you rarely find fish in any other shape/style
I bought them today. I think they hit it out of the park compared to other styles I’ve seen and this if my fourth pair. Honestly the work boot and thick sole I wear everyday and riding Harley or hunting. Have the Dillon Carmen for dress. Just wanted another square toe for more balance so see how these work out!
It seems to me that, whenever a new innovative company has been around for several years, and don't do whatever people (i.e Influencers) want the companies to do, people start turning on those companies. Now it's Tecovas' turn.
Tecovas is not what they used to be. Everybody’s prices have gone up. In my personal opinion they are trying to act like everything they make is high end products and quality. They have gone away from what made them grow so fast in the first place. I have 18 pair or so of Tecovas.
I live near a Tecova store. Really wanted to like them. I don't. They didn't feel right. I have boots from multiple makers. Tecovas didn't work for me.
I'm still pretty new to the cowboy boot thing, started with a pair of Ariat Ironsides, got some danpost sea bass. Now my go to boot is a round toe pair of gators from cowtown. I only have one square toe boot and tbh I don't like the way they fit that much.
Tecovas has spread themselves too thin with too many different products. Shirts, pants, briefcases, travel bags, socks, belts, jackets...too much. Narrow the product line and execute them well. And get some employees in the stores who seem to actually care about customers.
True that there's "nothing new under the sun." In every industry & category of products/services, there are lower quality yet overpriced companies. Of, everyone is trying to make a profit. I like the large scales look, but I love exotics (brought my first pair of Justin python boots in 1979).
Sounds like you like your toes pinched. These are actually some of the best I've seen. Just because another brand has made the same style does not mean it looks the same.
I’ve never really liked the wide square toe myself. I like the narrow square toe or snip toe. It seemed like Tacovas was making traditional R-toed boots when most boots from Mexico 10 years ago or so were really long extended toed. They weren’t styled so that most Americans would wear them. Maybe now that they feel that they’re established, they can dip into a different niche.
Did you have a tiff with Tecovas? I understand the points that they’re overpriced and kind of pretentious. I never particularly liked their stuff but they have the right to put out whatever boots and styles they want and I bet there are people who like them and can decide for themselves whether the quality is satisfactory for the price. You could give them a critical review but this?! You’re ripping on them like it’s personal. I hope it’s not so.
I purchased a pair back in 2019 and have held up to this day. A couple years ago I purchased a second pair and had to return them since the quality had decreased a lot compared to the initial ones I purchased.
I have one pair of tecovas. It's a roper, and it still holds up. Aside from their caiman skin boots and the fact that rujo is just killing it with their own styles, i just dont see a reason to buy any other pair of tecovas.
Many are saying this video is harsh which it is. Some take their interest/passion too far. In any interest when you been on the high end you don’t want to entertain the entry level, computer & audio stuff is a great example. I’ve spoken on the phone with the people at Tecovas many times and it’s been amazing! I don’t see Tecovas as the top dog but the brand that gets you in.
But they are now priced at USA made Anderson Bean prices. Their quality has actually decreased as their prices have increased. They are no longer an entry brand. They are now just a cash grab....and I own 3 pair....
I live in the Dallas Fort Worth area and while I currently wear a pair of Cavenders house brand JRC and Sons round toe cowboy boots have them in brown cow and the black pair is goat…. Maybe they released the square toe pirarucu cuz a lot of guys in TX really like the wide square toe. Even though I don’t currently wear the wide square toe I think these new tecovas fish boots look good they way they did em. Sorry Jeremiah disagree
I think people are getting a little too worked up over an issue that isn’t that big of a deal. I’ve been wearing cowboy boots for 50+ years and they are very good mid tier boots. What really makes people mad is the way they’ve marketed so aggressively. And now there’s pushback and the pushback is real. Meanwhile I’ll keep wearing my Tecovas. They are just boots! And they’re good!
Im not a fan of any fish boots and am disappointed that they wasted resources on something like this. But i really like the few Tecova models I do have.
They are probably marketing to the buyer who only shops at Tecovas, & who has never heard of piraruku. They can have em. I love a lot about Tecovas, but they fit my feet like garbage. Then again, so do most boots. I need a tighter vamp. Hyer boots have been amazing.
i just ordered a used tecovas to test size... they felt really good... too bad the price is way up but i liked the quality and felt really good and might order a pair from them.
They are trying to become the next Ariat, but not at that price. I have purchased several boots from them, usually I have to return them because they have imperfections. Just bought some final sales and they had bad imperfections. VERY SAD YOU MENTIONED RUJO, CAUSE THEY CREATE TRADITIONAL BOOTS WITH GREAT SKINS AND QUALITY AT A VERY VERY GOOD PRICE.
Happens a lot with good brands, Im not surprised with this really because i think Tecovas is PE backed and the founder is from a NY finance background so his whole deal is maximizing ROI. Reality is Tecovas is a master class at breaking into a market and crushing the competitors with modern marketing and consumer tendencies so theyll always still win with the average person needing some boots for the next zach bryan concert or game day. Anyone really into boots will move on to other brands. Praying Chisos never falls down this way but unlikely. I dont think Hondo will either as theyve been the same the whole time.
4:15 , YES this is what I am witnessing. I’m not going to pay my hard earned dollar on something that is only above average. If I want to feel guilty and boost my ego between me and the Lord, there is Lucchese for that !
Really tired of this same old square toe with a double stitched welts. Please bring back the variety of different toe shapes and widths to cowboy boots.
Tecovas customer service is even worse than their build quality. Bought a pair of parkers in late November. 2 days of working horses and the shank ether came lose or broke, it popps and crunches when walking. After a bunch of emails and telling me to wear them more it will settle, which it hasn’t. They wanted to make me fell that they were doing me a favor to warranty defective boots and then put me on a wait list and i still have not had my boots replace or fixed, it is now mid January. Nope just sitting on a 400$ pair of junk.
I just keep chuggin along with my No.2 Chisos. I have yet to find another pair of boots for the price that can come close to the comfort and craftsmanship of the Chisos. Just to double check, I went and slipped on some new $600 lucchese (priced same as chisos) and they were flimsy, inside was a trainwreck with cheap stiching and materials on inside, and worst of all very uncomortable. Slip on any Chisos and its like sliding in to a Cadallic , while the Lucchese feels like sitting in a hard plastic stadium seat.
@@BigRod-um2dk Tecovas have certainly fallen off, the Rujos are a good pick, you'll save some bucks compaired to the Chisos, but the Chisos are just so comfortable its hard for me to switch back to the Rujos at times

Hey Jeremiah, I can't really follow where the rant is coming from. I know they are overpricing but so do other brands. The criticism feels a little bit too much.
I agree. I had a pair of Tecova Midland for about 6, maybe 8 months. The lining tore at the (plactic) heel box and they were done. Worst boots I've ever spent $300 on, cowboy or otherwise. Hell I've had a pair of Doc Martins since the 90's. They might be ok for wearing on the weekends, but for work they're trash. I got a pair of Hondos for less, and the quality of literally every part of the boot is far better. I beat the hell out of them, oil em up and that bull shoulder looks brand new. I do disagree with the wide square toe though. All mine are square. Gives my toesies more room for activities. Can take or leave the double stitch.
Tecovas seem to have just become another boot brand, without anything particularly special.
Rujo is now what tecovas once was. Rujo>
Rujo is what I was hoping that Tecovas would be. Rujo is far superior to Tecovas.
Rujo squeaks too much for me
