I de-influenced myself out of buying a beauty advent calendar, I was almost buying it and then I remembered you saying that "you probably won't even like or use all of what's inside" and I remembered that I have lots of make up at home and don't need more.. so I put it down, and I'm so proud that I said no to myself thanks to your teachings 😊

It's also better for the environment if you are only reading ebooks. Ugh, I simply adore your channel. You have single handedly changed my outlook on finances and materialism. Through watching your videos, I was able to introspect and find the deeper meaning as to why I buy certain things and why it's difficult for me to declutter. I've realized that I heavily romanticize the item in question, which leads me to make poor choices. I'll try on a dress, and even if its not the ideal fit, I'll begin romanticizing myself accessorizing it, or going somewhere that is "good for the occasion" which leads me to spend money on an item I wont even wear regularly. I also realized this is why it's difficult for me to declutter my wardrobe. I'll either romanticize the way I can style it to make the item work for me (which may require me to buy even MORE stuff) or, I imagine, a very aestheticized and romanticized location where I could wear the said outfit. I'll imagine myself at the aquarium, museum, a library... none of which exists in my town, and I don't even read lol. I end up keeping it thinking I'll have a place to wear it someday.
All this to say, if it doesn't fit my lifestyle now, dont buy it.
I know this was long, and I dont know if you'll ever read this. But because of you, I realized this about myself. This epiphany has really changed the process in which I consume things, and I sincerely want to thank you for that.

I think it's personal preference, TBH. I like the planners with the whole month laid out on a grid, and then more detailed bullet list pages for each day. With my phone, I'm looking at little bars on a screen, and it's hard for me to tell what's a school event or medical appt, and what's (for example) a reminder to water my succulents. Sometimes things get buried. I've heard other people report going back to paper after tech issues where things get deleted and not always backed up. As far as reschedules and goofs, I use those little white-out tapes. Or I cross it out and write "r/s" next to it so I know it's been rescheduled. A habit I picked up form working in a doctor's office, I guess. Also probably why I don't go super fancy.

Just stumbled across your channel a few weeks ago and I find this community so fascinating- I think one of your videos got recommended to me because i’ve been getting really into living sustainably and reducing my carbon footprint. I’ve never heard the jargon “low-buy” “no-buy” until now. I just very rarely feel the need to buy things in the way you describe. In fact sometimes I think I have the opposite problem I’m way to much of a cheapskate and often refuse to even replace pairs of socks with hole. For example I convinced myself I don’t need to buy a molecular modeling kit when it would probably help a lot with my organic chemistry course. I’ve had the same journal since I was 16 - it’s gray and 3-ringed with replaceable pages. I even avoided laundry for like a month because the laundry in my building costs 4 DOLLARS per load (2 for wash and 2 for dry). Buying things for me can actually create a lot of anxiety and make me feel WAY guiltier than i should, I didn’t grow up poor, we were middle class, so I don’t know why I’m like this my friends can all go shopping normally without anxiety. I even feel bad buying myself groceries sometimes. For me I think I actually have to work on feeling like it’s ok to buy new things for myself, when I need them or simply because they would spark joy. I recently bought myself 6 brand new pilot G-2 pens some sticky notes and a pack of 10 colored markers- al together less than $20. I value those pens so much, I love them dearly, use them every day now. In an odd way your no-buy/low-buy content is helping me to get more perspective and decide when it is alright to buy nice things for myself instead of letting my anxiety and guilt around spending control me.

We always get told it’s all our fault for being dumb with our money and we just need to save better. Not to mention the fear/anxiety that I could have a medical issue and be burdened with possibly over 10k in medical costs, and how am I supposed to buy stickers if me or someone I love could need that money to stay alive someday. I bought undated weekly planner inserts and I found a full printable bujo kit on Etsy that covers the full year and I created a system with just the trackers and features I need in a Filofax domino that I’ve had for years. A lot of the trackers and things, I can reuse for years to come instead of buying a new planner. This may be me not being a planner person, but why are some of these planners so pricey? I use a $10 school year one. It has everything I want (compact, hardcover, month tabs, metal edged corners for when I shove it in my purse or bag, spiral bound so it lays flat.) When I was working in a doctor's office, we all used Office Max brand blotter calendars as planners. I know I'm probably not going to use half the things in the more elaborate planners (sometimes I forget there's stickers in the back of the one I have,) and that helps me de-influence a lot. YMMV.

I will say that a camping journal (for those of who go camping) is nice, because it's part planner, part reference for future trips or nostalgia. Those also don't necessarily have to cost a lot, especially since I'm literally packing it in a duffel bag and then using it in the woods. They're not for me, but that doesn't mean they're not for someone. I think if you have the budget for this, have the habit to support daily/weekly use, and want one then they're probably ok. But, buying something cute won't make you use it. If you're someone who doesn't use cash regularly you'd need a significant change to habits to support this use. So working on that habit first (going to the bank machine regularly) is what I'd personally work on before buying one.

I sort of "de-influenced" myself from something recently, even though I made a purchase. Kohl's had matching family pajamas on sale, and i wanted to get a pair for myself in red buffalo plaid because it would match the pants my husband already has. And it would be easier to find matching jammies for my two kids each year as they grow. So we could coordinate each Christmas without having to buy entirely new sets.
But then I looked at the material and realized the pants on that set were fleece. I overheat easily and hate fleece. I knew i would never ever wear those except on Christmas day. So i would be spending money on something only used once per year. I found another pair of jammies that were soft jersey material, ones I know would feel good and that I could wear all December each year. I do love having festive wear for different seasons. Like i get excited when its time to pull out my Halloween or Christmas apron.
But anyway, i opted for the jersey material pajamas even though they dont match my husbands pajama pants at all. I realized i could buy him matching ones, but then i would be stuck in the trap of buying my kids and all of us new matching sets each year since my kids are growing quickly. I decided I didn't have fo maych anyone, I can buy yhe pajamas that I like and that feel good and enkoy them for years to come during the holiday season. Make them my official Christmas jammies that I can get excited about pulling out every year. I have been struggling with always feeling bad in pictures and having cute Christmas jammies makes me more excited about tsking pictures on Christmas Day with my family. The pair i purchased was the same price as the other, but I feel good knowing they will actually be worn more than once. I will wear these ones until they are worn out or no longer fit (my weight fluctuates a lot).

as a person who genuinely uses a hobonichi planner and is pretty deep in the stationery rabbithole. you deserve better quality stickers than happy planner. i mean stylistically that all comes down to what's your taste but imo even the sticker quality itself is not that good. i recommend JetPens and Yoseka for stationery in general (both USA based but iirc ship to Canada for not an exorbitant price), my preference is JetPens for their easier to search website, but Yoseka has a lot of great stuff as well, it just takes a little more digging to uncover everything. If you stylistically like the happy planner ones, absolutely go for them, but I thought I'd share my personal preferences.
(also, it's kinda fun to realize the completely different planner circles we're in-- I was waiting for you to mention the kokuyo jibun techo/jibun techo DAYS, the PAL, the Take a Note, all the varieties from Midori, etc, but instead I was completely caught off guard by some I'd never heard of fkdgjhkfjdg)

I disagree that every craft or project has to be finished. This is a puritan idea (that’s bad). I liked Marie Kondo’s idea that sometimes you were only meant to read 3 chapters of that book, and you got what you should from it. Same with crafts. The joy was in the purchasing, seeing unused pretty journals on the shelf can be the enjoyment in itself, but not if you are morally bound to using it up in the way it was intended.

I also find myself saying things like, "I need more Christmas stuff to decorate with" and then I think of what you'd say and the advice you'd give and instead I'll go try and re-purpose something we already have or make something crafty with free pinecones from the yard or something.

I use happy planner as my main planner - I tried to use so many systems but sometimes I'd fall off the wagon and I'd lose all motivation to use that particular planner alltogether. I spent so much money on bullet journals, any planners I could possibly get to find the perfect one. But since using happy planner I feel so much less pressure. this year I didn't use 2 months because of really bad morning sickness - I just took those 2 months out, redated them and used them as memory keeping and journaling about my pregnancy with pictures etc. and with stickers - I got carried away with their sales so in 2 years I accumulated 10 sticker books. I'm on a stationery no-buy next year, except for a planner for 2026, that means when I use this one up.

It took me a long time to come to terms that I will never get through a planner in a whole year. However, instead of purchasing expensive journals, I will buy a previous year's daily planner when it's 70% off and journal in it. 😊

I talked myself out of buying some Olay skin cream that’s on sale at Sam’s Club. I’ve been using it and I like it, but even on sale it’s pretty expensive ($35 for 3.5oz of product). we have something we are saving for, so I said if I use a regular moisturizer for a few months, the difference will probably be minimal, if anything.

I new to your page and I love this content! I have been listening while I downsize & organize. I am notorious for filling an online shopping cart and letting it sit in the tabs on my phone for days, weeks, months! If I decide it’s not a priority anymore I will delete it. But that way if I get into a spending mood and find myself buying, I know it’s something I’ve been thinking about for a while! Currently stressing about Christmas, trying to be budget friendly with 5 kids.

I talked myself out of buying a beautiful cobalt blue wool hoodie from my fav wool bralette company. I dont actually like to wear hoodies outside of the house bc I don’t feel my best in them and they don’t really match my outfits and I don’t need a super luxurious at home hoodie when I have plenty of comfy and warm options already. But for like a hot second I had convinced myself that I would “live in it” and it would be a great addition to my wardrobe.

Hey If you want a special sticker and don’t want to buy a big sticker pack with it you can make your own! You need non stick baking paper, clear packing tape and a little doodle (f.e. The sticker with the motiv you wanted). Now You put a first layer of clear packing tape then doodle and then again clear packing tape! Hope this helps !!!❤❤❤

As a bullet journaler with ADHD planners is one I REALLY have to put on blinders for, my bullet journal is SOLELY for keeping myself in line and that include being more fiscally responsible XD I really empathize with the stationery thing because I've already found what I need to FUNCTION.

Which planner and/or method do you use to manage to your ADHD? I’ve been struggling trying to find one that sticks because eventually, I either forget or don’t do it cuz I can’t make it look pretty.

Totally understand you with the notebook thing. I try to just have not more then two backups and I am not allowed to buy more until the second one is almost finished. Now is the time to buy a new notebook (will end the current one between January and February 2025) and of course my favourite brand is gonna have a Black Friday discount, BUT it hasn’t released a new collection since 2022 and I already have bought (and used) every cover design from it. I want my journals to be all unique designs, I don’t want replicas and I want to be able to distinguish them at first glance. Also, they are expensive (like all A5 notebooks for BUJO purposes) and I don’t need to buy something that doesn’t satisfy me 100%. And the cover design takes a really big chunk of that 100%. I’m probably just going to try something new even though I love that brand. Thanks to your videos I’m becoming a more responsible and aware of what i really need!!!!

I just wanna chime in when it comes to e-readers (for people who are just looking into it for their first e-reader) definitely do your research but don't buy into the hype and going down the rabbit hole of getting one with the most snazzy features, getting the most responsive one, the most recent one, etc. This is because if you primarily use it to read text-based books it shouldn't matter, the very basic model of any reputable brand works just fine and any other extra feature is just going to be a distraction. I think the basic model actually makes it easier to turn yourself off from the internet to read because it's too clunky to do anything else except for reading.
However, I do love my e-reader simply because it takes the friction away from reading and I definitely have been reading more since I got it a couple of years ago. I even bought one for my partner for his birthday this year and he loves it.

I'm in a book Facebook group and everyone is obsessed with the new Kindle. I don't even use my Kindle that I got 4 years ago. I just use the app on desktop on the app, and it works with most books on Libby. I also rarely buy physical books because they're so expensive and I never re-read books.

Just wanted to leave my review that the Papier pages are so see-through if you use a ballpoint pen. I can see the entire backside of the page transferred through the paper.

I don't know if someone already mentioned this. But if your ereader is a Kindle, it has a dedicated email address that you can use to send ebooks to it.

Thanks for another great video! I bought the Erin Condren planner years ago. It was pretty but it was huge. Way too many “extra” pages and space that I didn’t even use. Not at all practical for taking with me on the go. I ended up not using it for this reason. Total waste of money. On the plus side, it cured me of wanting a special planner. I just use a journal from Target for recording my thoughts and a digital calendar for planning. Google calendar all the way now.
