RM wrote the lyrics and he often talks about struggling with his public persona "RM" vs his own sense of self "Kim Namjoon" and I feel like this song talks about that too (what did I gain and lose by choosing this path, what is my real voice etc). All the imagery about being stuck under a frozen lake and seeing his own face in it also points to this as being a very introspective song. With that said, the beauty of great lyrics is that they can be interpreted in many different ways.
@@everybodysweird Plus the MV is pointing towards the theme of narcissism, dancing with himself in a loving way and looking into the water like Narcissus. For a long time I couldn't get why the song is called Singularity. Luckily a book about Universe gave me understanding. There's singularity in a center of black hole, it means that nothing can go outward, no matter, no light. Everything just bends towards itself. So this is like inability to love somebody else if you are so immersed into yourself. This goes nicely with the mood of the album "LY: Tear" which is about unhealthy ways of love, generally speaking.
Also I've said it before, but when they figured out how to use Taehyung's voice they really went to another level.

Angela Sealana I totally agree. BTS “spoke” to me before I even read the lyric translations. I honestly can’t even listen to English/American music anymore because there is no depth.

Yes! I was going to tell them the same thing! BTS just had a series of concerts earlier this month ending their "Love Yourself:Speak Yourself Tour" called "The Final". Here in the States, we were able to see one of the shows in movie theaters (sorry if you already know this!) and when V started Singularity, the theater went DEAD SILENT. We were all literally mesmerized into dumbfoundedness. The man is stunningly beautiful - and his stage presence is *chef's kiss*.

That snap synthetic clap is imitating the sound of a frozen lake that cracking. BTS has hidden meanings all over their songs not just visual, words and performers, but even the instruments. I think RM and Suga produces most of BTS songs. They are all talented to the core! God given talents that they train and work very hard to perform. They train like 15 hours a day and go to school and university. They learn new things like Jin learned to play the guitar just to learn something new and his in 3 weeks his piano solo so he wouldn't have to fake it in front of the audience. V is also a gifted photographer, painter and poet.

This song may sound like a baby making music, but if you read the lyrics it's very philosophical. It's about losing yourself to the facade that you create in order to be accept by others. "Have I lost myself, or have I gained you" is one of the lyrics. You can see in the last frame that when he put on a mask, he is 'LOVED' (typo on one of the giant earring he wears), but he is crying a black tear out of that mask to show his struggle from wearing that mask. So it's more about identity struggle more than a romance song.
p.s. One of my all time favourite soul singer is Donny Hathaway ('Someday we'll all be free'). I never imagine I'll find another voice as deep as the ocean and overflow with soul like V from BTS .

Not only is the song itself deep, but the video has tons of deep imagery. They used both the myth of Narcissus and the story of Ophelia from Hamlet to create a beautiful contrast. Narcissus was so in love with himself that he drowned in a lake when he fell in staring at his own reflection, and Ophelia was so in love with Hamlet that when she fell into a lake she didn't have the will to save herself without him. The contrast of loving yourself so much that you forget all others, and loving someone else so much that you forget to love yourself, and how to find a balance between the two because both can be deadly. It's an important message conveyed in such a creative, beautiful way. BTS are brilliant songwriters, and Bighit is so good at making creative concepts.

They are all so different in BTS, and thats what makes them so great and special. Their voices all different, and quite unique, recognizable too.
Dancing style and expressive ability very varied and complementing of each other.
Tae’s voice is like golden honey, but can have a punch to it too - Anpanman being a great example of this.
