Hello guys! If you like our work please subscribe to our second channel The History Chronicles
This dudes life would make a great movie but you know Hollywood will just ruin it.
There were two truly all-time great knights..one was William Marshall. The other was Rodrigo Diaz of Vivar, the great Cid of Spain. Both men had the same courageous values, the same dedication to honor, the same devotion to service to their kings...however awful their kings may have been. They were incorruptible. They were both singular, truly remarkable men. Fascinating and marvelous!
I love the way you present the historical topics on this channel. The simple fact that he was not killed during his arduous career as a knight after coming from an impoverished beginning and even rising to the rank of an Earl and lived to die a somewhat peaceful death in his senior years during this violent period in the history of England is a phenomenal accomplishment in itself.
The mysterious deaths of William's sons and the 'fact' that they had no sons coupled with his refusal to join the Templars until supposedly on his deathbed has fascinated me for decades. You just inspired me to go back into that part of his story to see if anymore has been uncovered. Thanks.
The Knight of Unyielding loyalty. Truly the Chad of his age.
Highly recommend the book! 'The Greatest Knight' - Really cool account of his life.
Last year I went to Temple Church in the heart of the law quarter of London and saw the tomb of the Marshal himself. Also it's where they had crucial meetings regarding Magna Carta and was the English headquarters of the Knights Templar. You just need to pay a small entrance fee, not sure if it's open at the moment due to covid though.
I can't help feeling that Young Henry and William on the tournament circuit is a buddy movie waiting to be made.
He was a great man of loyalty. Something absent in today’s world.
William Marshal, 1st Earl of Pembroke, now here is a man for the whole world to admire and learn from. A truly great human being who represented a truly great nation! 🏴
He also joined the knights Templers on his death bed because during his life he didn't want to give up on his own life and the joys it brought. Greatest knight ever
A true model of chivalry and loyalty, one of the greatest knights to have lived! 🙌😊
The character and multiple skills of William Marshall are inspiring. The fact that his life spanned the troubled reigns of Henry II, Richard I, John and the early regency of Henry III is astounding.
I think there is a mistake. Arthur of Brittany was the son of Geoffrey, who was the 3rd or 4th ( I don't remember) legitimate son of Henry II. King Henry also had an illegitimate son named Geoffrey but he was the archbishop of York.
It's men like this that makes me proud to be British. Loyal, brave and fearless.
Awesome. This man lived a story book life, something I've been wanting to put down in a comic series someday.
over 900 years later we still talk about him. William Marshal, First of his name, Earl of Pembroke, Earl Marshal of England, and Founder of Cartmel Priory. A true legend.
A couple of notes. None of William Marshal's sons had children. His daughters, yes. Looking up the history of his descendants is quite interesting.
Thank you for doing this one!!!!!
