    Wonderful video!! I had the Epson 380 printer for about 7 years for around $300 purchased around 2008, was the best printer we ever had for photos just like professional prints until it was shut down by Epson and no longer supported. Replaced it with another Epson Photo printer for about $200 and the photo prints were just OK, then the machine went wonky just after the warranty expired. Replaced it with an HP which again had just OK prints nowhere near the 380 prints and crapped out totally after the warranty. Then back to Epson to the 7155 a year ago which gives colour prints similar to a colour newpaper print from 20 years ago so I gave up on printing after the 22 4X6 prints the ink cartridges gave me. So now we're looking at going back to Epson for those professional prints we were accustomed to. Your videos comparing this with the 3850 are quite compelling, thankyou for your wonderful information to make an informed decision after the last debacles we've been through with the most recent printers we've had.

    Good video. I am looking to buy a new AOI1 printer after my 14 yr old HP 8180 printer had a major failure. I watched another video that compared prints from dye ink based printers and pigment ink based printers. The ET 8500 uses dye based inks but photos from pigment based printers last longer and are better for black and white photos. I am considering buying the Epson ET 8500 or XP 970 . I was leaning towards the xp 970 because it is a lot cheaper but concerned about the size. I am assuming the xp 970 uses dye based inks. Now I am not sure what printer to buy because I want an AO1 that scans well and has good text quality but also prints good quality photos including black and white photos. Should I be looking at a pigment ink based AO1 printer or am I okay to go with a dye ink based printer? If dye based ink printers is okay in your opinion for BW photos, is the XP 970 a good printer or would I be better off with the ET 8500? The XP 970 in canada is $280 while the ET 8500 is $1000. I was not expecting to spend $1000 on a printer. I ruled out Canon and HP for AO1 as the reviews were not good except for the HP 7103.

    I changed my new Epson 5150 for this printer as there was a a tiny line of indentations along each side of the picture prints caused by the roller pushing the paper. When I printed photos on the new 8500, the indentations were still present. Is this a normal issue with Epson that is just accepted?

    Nice Video. Thank You! However, a friend of mine needed help in how to set the presets for card stock. My friend bought this printer for making prints from her artwork from her MacBook Pro. We did not know about any “presets”, therefore we had to take the printer back because of the lousy faded quality we were getting. What do you chose for paper type if you are using card stock? There is no card stock option. We would love to know how to do the presets and any other selections needed for high quality prints on card stock. Maybe we would give this printer another chance.

      @AdaptingCamera Год назад +1

      @@BestPrinters I doubt that you anticipated the ink level right. I have printed more than hundred 4x6, at least 40-50 A4 size, and about 50 A3+ size black and white and colour photo images as well as about a 100 pages of A4 colour documents on normal paper, and I am not even at 50% grey and about 20% on the rest of the colours, except the normal black, which is at about 10%. OK, I have the ET-8550, but both of these printers are equal in ink tank size and probably also regarding the ink use. The difference is that my printer has longer tubes, which means there is more ink to be filled during initialisation. Did you add what was left in the bottles after initialisation? After initialisation, the ink level was down to about 90% but the bottles contained more than enough to fill to 100% plus a little more in some bottles.

    • @AdaptingCamera
      @AdaptingCamera Год назад

      @@mrfarid8562 He clearly anticipated totally wrong. I'd be really worried if the printer used 10% of the ink (that's 7ml for this printer) after only 10 images. This printer, and it's big brother, the ET-8550 which I have, is EXTREMELY economical. That's the only point of buying them, since the printer price is actually pretty high. If he would have used 10% of the ink for 10 images it would mean that the printer can only print 100 A4 images, which would be totally unacceptable, but OK, maybe his printer is leaking, I don't know.

Have there been any issues with blockages or anything else? I would be printing many photos, but also hoping to print out a few manuals on regular paper as well. Does the print quality in black and white text hold up? I saw an online review where they had struggled with printing onto regular paper with black text, but I think they may have been trying to print full page colour images with black text (maybe a .pdf file), so the printer would use the black dye instead of pigment black.

    • @d1g3rat19
      @d1g3rat19 2 года назад +2

      My advice if you can is to return the paper and just buy one of the Epson papers you have listed there. I would recommend Premium (68lb) or Ultra Premium (79lb). Canon's Glossy II is 70Ib so it's closer to Epson Premium Photo Paper Glossy so if you HAVE to stick with the Canon paper, use that profile. I think the reviewer just used the Canon and HP papers because that's what he has on-hand, but you will always get the best results pairing the printer with the paper it was calibrated for, and for which the printer has exact colour profiles to pick from. You are approximating the profile match with Canon paper, but with Epson paper you are getting a perfect match.
      As for printing from a Mac, make sure you are NOT using the Airprint driver but the native print driver instead. I also recommend downloading and using Epson Print Layout and printing on the High Quality setting while matching the paper with the right profile (and this is, again, where sticking with Epson paper will yield the best results). If you have the patience (as the videos are more in-depth), look up Keith Cooper on RUclips, who has a series of videos demoing printing different media on the ET-8550 (same model but large format) and he shows how he does it on a Mac via Epson Print Layout.

      The ink cartridges are about 15ml each on the XP-15K. The bottles on the 8550 are 70 ml each. If you anticipate printing large dark images and/or higher quantities, the $100 difference will weigh in favor of the ecotank pretty quickly due to ink costs. They have nearly the same inkset (both being current generation claria dye) with the exception that the 15K has red and the 8550 has pigment black (aka matte black). The 15K needs to be stopped and ink primed to change cartridges, wasting some ink from all cartridges regardless of how many were changed while the 8500 can be filled even when printing without wasted ink.

    Worth noting that the 4-Ink EcoTank printers do not use black when printing to glossy. The pigment black ink they use will not stick to glossy paper so instead they will make a fake black from CMY, which is a very poor black and will make your photos look blue. This expensive 6 ink printer is the only way to use glossy paper and not have a terrible looking result. Shaq fails to mention this in the commercials.

    I have this printer and I am not happy with it. When printing on matte paper, the colors get very dull and lose vividness. Also when printing on normal copy paper, lines are not so sharp, its as if the ink is too juicy ... I am really frustrated about this purchase.

    • @BestPrinters
      @BestPrinters  Год назад

      Try these two things :
      1. adjust the print settings in the application on your computer. Change the type of paper to photo paper.
      2. You may need to do a manual printhead cleaning, you can see some instructions here: ruclips.net/video/IujeTxvENGU/видео.html

      @@BestPrinters thank you for trying to help. I did these things already, it seems to be all working „normally“. When I print on glossy or fineart matte paper everything looks wonderful. I just don’t like the quality on normal paper. And also I cant use it for coloring pages, because the ink smears with markers 🙁, so if one wants to mark a text it will smear too.

      Yes please! I have this printer but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to do it. The paper is getting jammed but probably because I'm using the front tray. Do i need to use the top paper-feed or maybe the rear bottom paper-feed? if so how do I select those? The printer seems to like to just use the front bottom tray.

    • @d1g3rat19
      @d1g3rat19 2 года назад +1

      @@diannalewis7140 Always feed thicker media in one of the rear feeds as it provides a more direct path for the media rather than having to curl it when fed from the front tray. You can pick which tray to print from in the preferences menu; change the "Paper Source" from Auto select to the one you want to use.

      Your editing display is set too high. Turn the screen down to at least 50% brightness and your prints will come out much brighter. You will need to edit your photos in a darker room so the lower brightness of the display is easier to see.

    This is a really good printer ruclips.net/user/postUgkxciSwynMJ7PnUvvx11rewiu-yFBkZTl53 . The reason I gave 4 stars for tech support (which I don't think this would classify as tech support) is because once you turn the printer on, it does require a little bit of start up time which may bother some who are in a hurry to quickly print something. To offset that though the printer prints very quickly. I would definitely purchase this printer again.

  • @AdaptingCamera
    @AdaptingCamera Год назад +1

    Why did you test with the "wrong" paper? If the paper type is other than the Epson types then ICC profiling is necessary. The colours will be totally different and miles better if you profile the paper, otherwise it is best to use Epson paper. Using the generic papers is not the best solution.

    • @BestPrinters
      @BestPrinters  Год назад

      Its not the wrong paper, its photo paper.

    • @AdaptingCamera
      @AdaptingCamera Год назад +1

      @@BestPrinters You are wrong, it is indeed the wrong paper if you have not created any ICC profile for it. Just because it says that it´s a photo paper, it doesn't mean that it is just as good as any other on this (or any other) printer. I have also some HP and Kodak papers, and even though the printer is set to the generic semi glossy or glossy type, the colours turn out totally different compared with printing the same image on profiled paper of the same type. Anyway, you do as you like, but to call this video "Epson ET 8500 Print Quality Test" is just a click bait. You are not testing the print quality, only that the printer works. That's all. You can't call it a quality test of any sort without doing it properly with profiled papers. Look it up if you don't know what ICC profile is and what it does.

    The user manual seems to be lacking a great deal. I put a photo on the glass, check settings, hit copy and have the most horrible, grainy photo ever. I look up problem and the manual does not compare to what i have when I open properties, can't even click on print preference. I have installed software, built a web site, have 2 other printers, not really tech challenged, but I still checked all the settings that I would normally check on my other Epson, or my HP printer. Still grainy photo. I suspect it has to do with a lot of black in the photo, which is where the grainy is. I saw a comment about the black not printing on glossy, Not impressed with this over priced printer and its lacking instruction manual.
