I love American Dad. I usually have it playing while I do other stuff like play games, color, do dishes, etc. and pay attention just enough to get a few laughs and follow the plot. This episode made me stop what I was doing and give it my undivided attention. I loved it. I wouldn’t want AD to do these types of episodes too often bc at its core it’s still an adult animated comedy but I really liked it!
I remember when I first watched this episode, I was playing Minecraft at like 1 am, it caught my attention immediately, it was so eerie I watched it 3 times that night I really liked it
9:27 This is a reference to the incredible classical piece of art called Nighthawks by Edward Hopper. A very, very somber painting. It explains this episode so well. I cannot describe it. But this episode along with the painting Nighthawks is a very special feeling.
And the show itself is based on Hugh Hefners Playboy Penthouse 1959, you can find videos of the show on RUclips and see the glaring similarities. Late night talk shows really dropped in quality in the last 70 years, from discussing culture, literature, history and society to cracking bad jokes and babbling.
What I find interesting about this episode is that the B plot is honestly kinda weak. It's just Roger is a baby. But the A plot is extremely strong, so we don't need a B plot. This is my favorite episode as well.
To be fair, that's part of the joke, that Rodger being a baby is so contrived and crappy. It's not really a B-plot considering that most of the runtime is focused on Stan's adventure alone.
About a year back, I was at a party with this on the TV. I was so enthralled by the episode that I completely disregarded socializing until it was over. Really great video Mr.Cow, keep up the great work.
Rabbit Ears is definitely one of the best, but I wouldn't say it's the last great episode. This last season has had a lot of episodes I really enjoyed. Sure there were a fair share of clunkers, but I still love watching the latest seasons. Fellow Traveler is one of the best episodes in the whole show imho. They managed to introduce six new one shot characters that were all very unique and likable.
I never thought I'd find a channel so good so unappreciated to the level you deserve sir. You have an amazing future ahead of you. I really couldn't agree more and have wanted to make these videos especially this one myself.
I LOVE this episode! One of my all-time favorites! ALL of my friends hate it, though. I just assumed it was a weird one-off episode that nobody really gave a damn about.
I was a bit surprised that this episode's A-plot is turned from a dramady to analog horror mystery inspired from Twilight Zone and Candle Cove to full-on and unique different take of analog horror itself and ended back with a tribute to original Twilight Zone. All in very good execution.
I only saw this episode a few weeks ago, and yeah, it's tremendous. I watched it a few times as I absolutely love it. It's perfect. Great jokes, perfect timing, cool concept for the story, and great voice work from Chris Pine who became one of the best villains in the series. This, and Fartbreak Hotel are my top two. Great video, and happy I came across your channel. Subbed.
No. It would be a disappointment, 'cause if you replicated Stan's experience with Greg, ,or even a variation on it,like most sequels, we'd compare it with the first, and be let down. Or, if different, it'd be very hard to come up with a different twist to the first plot which would be as satisfying. Let it go and just enjoy and savor the original.
Rabbit Ears & Gold Top Nuts. The perfect creepy atmosphere duo of American Dad. Seriously bee obsessed with bith episodes since their respective debuts
Just have to say that out of your channel (I just found it and am binging it now) I chose this video bc the thumbnail was dope as shit, so keep that up! 👍
I just realized something. Francine and stan kind of..match. The frog episode with francine is this episodes parallel. How funny. The two have done the exact. Same thing. Just in a different type of way? ...
The gradual introduction of color was reminiscent of the movie Pleasantville, which had a similar storyline (and is an excellent movie, if you haven't seen it). I thought the subtle running gag about the bedbugs in the mattress was brilliantly done, since, as you pointed out, the humor doesn't deteact from the episode.
I believe Alistair Covax is supposed to be Hugh Hefner. The similarity in appearance, the smoking jacket, the love of jazz, the gorgeous girls, the bunny-like drink servers, and the Mid Century American decor all add up to Hefner. Coming to the end of the set only to discover the diner, which is the painting Nighthawks, about lonely people finding company in an all-night diner, suggests....what? Lonely people staying up to watch television get lost in a fictitious world? Hefner was lonely despite a contrary appearance? That you cannot run from loneliness? I'm not sure what the ultimate takeaway is. But it's one heck of an episode. Even the title Rabbit Ears is a refernce to a bunny. Edit: There is also a very slight reference to W. Eugene Smith, a famous photographer who for years recorded jazz musicians jamming at a loft on Sixth Ave, Manhattan. It is known as the Jazz Loft Project. The show Nighthawks Hideaway repeating every night with minor variations can be interpreted as the nightly jam sessions. The problem with this interpretation is that there is only one musician, the piano player, and he is white. The Jazz Loft was mostly black musicians. Also, W. Eugene Smith recorded the nightly sessions, but in the episode i didnt see anybody overtly recording the sessions. But they're both Smiths, Stan and W. Eugene. Anyhow, the link to the Jazz Loft Project is weak, which leads to Hefner being the most likely link. Anybody reading this differently? Please contribute your thoughts.
Personally im not a fan of this episode. While i get the intent, the mystery wasn't too hard to guess for me (and not in a fun way) and the lack of humour from a show i watch gor comedy just bored me
rabbit ears was bad there are better ones like the flooded house episode, the ark , the rapture & 200 episode, ricky spanish, the CIA labyrinth, any of the specials
I think it's worth noting they "escaped" by breaking the fourth wall btw

Where do you watch it?
the more experimental episodes that break out of the usual formula are always the best, i.e. rabbit ears, lost in space, gold top nuts
Lost in Space introduced me to Wax Fang, and I'll forever be grateful for that
"hot water" is a good one too
Lost in space is one of the best too, but I think it is not very recognized
The 300 is one of the best of all time imo
I remember when I first watched this episode, I was playing Minecraft at like 1 am, it caught my attention immediately, it was so eerie I watched it 3 times that night I really liked it

@@sickofit1574 Which is fine, because this episode was the best.
@@Maw0 Oh to be sure it is a top episode, but for me Tearjerker will always be my favourite.
that's how alot of american dad episodes are come to think of it. if one plot doesn't do it for you the other one often makes up for it.
That's no doubt just to keep the rest of the family busy so Stan is alone with the TV.

Yeah but how else is he gonna get the clickbait title :( sorry for the cynical joke im not normally like this.

fun fact alliston kovack is voiced by chriss pine
My I add the fake wall they encounter with the diner is based off a oil painting called “nighthawks” from the 1940s
I LOVE this episode! One of my all-time favorites! ALL of my friends hate it, though. I just assumed it was a weird one-off episode that nobody really gave a damn about.
I thought I was the only one who watched it at after midnight and just got a weird feeling.
American Dad and the Twilight Zone work surprisingly well together
I was a bit surprised that this episode's A-plot is turned from a dramady to analog horror mystery inspired from Twilight Zone and Candle Cove to full-on and unique different take of analog horror itself and ended back with a tribute to original Twilight Zone. All in very good execution.

Wow, I’m so happy to have stumbled upon your channel! Great video!
Im just gonna say it. Now that I'm older I perfer AD over FG 100%
There needs to be a follow up episode, since at the end you see Greg take the tv from the curb.
Definitely. From Greg and Terry's perspective. Maybe reveal new details, like is it an alternate universe?
No. It would be a disappointment, 'cause if you replicated Stan's experience with Greg, ,or even a variation on it,like most sequels, we'd compare it with the first, and be let down. Just found your channel, love these videos.
It's just bizarre hearing Nintendo music over these episodes/topics, lol

You dare challenge the supremacy of Gold Top?! You truly are a Tiffany's Boyfriend.
This and Gold Top Nuts are probably my favorite episodes

great video tbh
This deserves more likes he did really good compared to some people with the most monotone speech
Rabbit Ears is my favorite episode, period! “That’s outrageous.”
9:03 that rhymes

This has big “Night Springs” energy

Kovacs? that's how I would spell it Stan, looks like an interesting episode, I like it when they play with genre and style of shows
This is also my pick for best episode tbh and I think I might have seen all of them with the exception of some of the newest ones
This episode sounds fantastic! And nothing like American Dad, like, at all lol
I mean I personally liked the episode with the end of the world and the alternate reality
I rather like American Dad; the episodes, in my opinion, are pretty good, especially compared to Family Guy.
I would put Raptures Delight - Season's Beatings - Rabbits Ears as the top 3 episodes of the series.
Probably the most cerebral episode. This would have been a Twilight Zone episode in the 60s.
Pls cover the new seasons of futurama
This show is anything but boring
Look up Gold Top Nuts or the 200. Both are in my opinion Great episodes.
review Gold Top Nuts episode
Gold Top Nuts. You're welcome.
American Dad>>>>>>>Family Guy
this is a good video
The one that got away (season 4 ep 2) is my fave ep (the B plot is pointless, and should've been eliminated to expand on main story)
Weird:
AD is my favourite show, and I don't rate this episode nearly as high as I would others.
I didn't "get" it.
I love this episode, actually watched it the other day again
You’re unfairly harsh of the show
not even the best episode🥱🥱
Personally im not a fan of this episode. While i get the intent, the mystery wasn't too hard to guess for me (and not in a fun way) and the lack of humour from a show i watch gor comedy just bored me
