O'Keefe's Slide ~ Irish Fiddle Tune! | Katy Adelson

- Here is a fun Irish fiddle tune called O'Keefe's. It's a slide, which is kind of like a jig, but has a more "bouncy" nature to the tune -- similar to a hornpipe. They also are also generally played at really fast tempos, but the "bouncy" vibe of the tune makes it feel like you aren't playing so fast. It's kind of strange...
I recently started to learn guitar! I thought I'd attempt to make a music video with it. I'm still very much a beginner... This tune only has the three chords, so I thought I'd attempt it. It's weirdly difficult to strum in tempo. It's like I think I'm strumming in tempo, and then I listen to it and realize I'm most definitely NOT, lol. It takes a lot of practice and self-critiquing...... I also bought a low G whistle by Susato and learned that low whistles are so much harder to make sound nice. This is actually the first music video I've made where it's 100% acoustic. I usually make my backing tracks with sample libraries rather than real instruments.
There have been a few deaths in the family recently, and I've been struggling a lot......I hadn't posted in a while, and thought I should try to start making things again, but still feel really sad about stuff...It's a hard balance.
Thank you for watching, and I hope you have a good rest of the week! =)
~ Katy

Hi Katy, I'm happy to see you back with another irish fiddle tune even though I read you've lost some family members that puts you in tough times lately. Stay positive and take your time! You don't owe us anything. ;)
I love this❤,love simple irish, Scottish tunes❤
I love watching your videos Katie, it gives me inspiration to play Irish tunes at sessions in southern England.
Thank you, Katy, for sharing your talent and your love for Irish tunes!!!!! Tá sé iontach!! 💝💝💝
Amazing beautiful songs. One peace is my ringing tone
Another brilliant performance Katy, thank you very much, very much.
Delightful lady and delightful music. Kind regards from the UK.
Keep playing that lovely music. The pleasure you give is beyond price. 🌺🌺
Katy, my deepest condolences for your loss. This was absolutely beautiful and the talent on display had both my wife and I in awe. Great job!
Hey Katy. I don't know the circumstances of your loss that is evident in other comments, but the love of music passed down to you is as clear as a bell. Storytelling, songs and music were how families and friends used to interact before the medium I am sending this message on. I hope we will never lose that ...
Sorry you’re going through a difficult time. I know that for me, playing and sharing music is healing. BTW, those are the widest vibrating cello strings I’ve ever seen! It looked so cool! Thanks for sharing! ❤️Becca (also in Colorado) 😊
Thank you so much! 💜 I tuned the C string down to an A, so it had a lot of extra wobble lol
@@KatyAdelson yeah I was wondering that. Fun!
It's an old Irish trick called aliasing.
@@TheSingingCello so was I. ♥️🤷
@@KatyAdelson I will put a candle on for you at the Oblate Fathers church ( Sacred heart) in Kilburn ,North London at my sister's Requiem Mass...peace and love from the wirral...E
I may be a Metal Head, but I love hearing your music.
Bravo Katy!! Beautiful
Awesome job, sorry about your family's losses.
One of my favorite Irish tunes!! I especially like seeing the cello string vibrate hahaha.
Sorry to hear about your loss, grief is such a difficult emotion to process. Here is hoping for brighter days ahead, and as always thank you for all the music over the years.
Those cello strings are trippy!
Music is good therapy. 👍
Thank you Katy. You produce something beautiful at times when it is most needed.
Oh, Katy. I'm so sorry, dear. I truly know how hard grief can be to get over. That being said, you took a beautiful step away from it with this tune! It's so involved with all the different instruments and cam together so beautifully. I'm always so impressed by your talent and enjoy listening so very much! Take care, Hon.
A lovely tune and a sensible speed for English country dancing - Imparts rhythm and 'lift' for the dancers. imho too much 'downhill racing' in so many Irish music sessions these days.. Thanks for all your videos ;
Love it, very good music ! thank you Katy
Amazing work, Katy!
Thank you! Your videos are wonderful! 🎶🎵🎶🎵

Is it not the coolest thing to be able to play each instrument 🎸🎷 🎻 🥁 🎹, you do it well thank you for sharing Princess 🌹🌹🗡️
She deserves all the likes and subs, not only for the music but the effort she and her crew puts into the the vids. Nicely done, keep improving
Hi Katy; My heart goes out to you.Hey sorry to hear you have been through a tough time of late, sure hope and pray things come right for you real soon my dear. It is certainly beaut to see you back performing for us on video, even learning new instruments which is really way cool. Thank you once aging Katy and hey chin up, you can do it just give it time darling.
Hi Katy it’s v refreshing to hear this tune with its lyrical quality. That I feel gets lost on tunes played v fast sometimes. Also it’s encouraging for those of us who coming late to the fiddle are taking time to develop speed.
I wish you good thoughts and feelings at a difficult time for you. Love does go on, being ultimate in before and after.
Excellent work.
This is beautiful, thank you so much!!!
Great performance. Beautiful Irish tune. Thank you very much for sharing 🙏😍🍀❤️🎶🌹✨
Quel plaisir de voir les vidéos musicales de Katy qui maîtrise plusieurs instruments ! C'est vraiment du plaisir, donc 1000 bravos à cette talentueuse artiste depuis ma Normandie 😊
Thank you for your amazing music! I always look forward to your videos!
This is one of my favorite Katy Adelson songs
Music can be so healing, regardless of whether you’re listening or playing it. May it help to sooth your soul and heart. And remember that those who have passed are still enjoying your music. I’m very sorry for your loss.
When I was driving between Tucson and Phoenix last week I was always glad when one of your tunes came up. You helped make my journey seem shorter. Good luck with learning the guitar. You’re so amazing! And a multi-instrumentalist to boot! Well done! I like this speed for O’Keefe’s Slide, one of my favorite tunes.
Very nice!
Hello Katty!
Good to see you again!
Just wanted to say, thank you. I've learned so much from your channel. The look in peoples eyes to hear these tunes is priceless, forgotten is the sweet voice of violin. Play on my friends!
it is lovely Katy i love it 💖
Shabat Shalom! Magnifico como sempre! Parabéns!!!
Hi Katy, Sorry to hear you are going through a tough time right now. God bless. Hope you keep well and take care. Lovely bright tune, you are very talented being able to play many different instruments. Best wishes. Colin
Such a beautiful tune! Wish happiness would soon shine through u. As happy as this beautiful tune 🤗
great song, the added guitar adds more color.I do miss the funny bloopers at the end
Wow! Just wow!
Katy, thank you for the tune. I saw you looked a little down and then I read the description. I have a lot of sympathy and empathy for you. I hope that joy will find its way back to you soon, but always in its own time.
Again, thank you for the tune, it was lovely.
Grásta Dé chugat,
Joseph
My condolences on the passing in your family, Ms. Katy.
That's a marvelous way to start a beautiful Saturday morning! Have you heard the tuning mnemonic for guitar? Eat A Dead Gerbil Before Exercise...
Beautifully played, as always. I often cite you as the player I would like to be like. Take you time, look after yourself, and if music helps then make music (it doesn't have to be for us).
Absolutely amazing :)
Shalom from israel...love your work
Just superbly wonderful. Thanks, Katy. You just keep getting better.
Absolutely stunning!
Super lovely! Sittin on my porch on a summer evening enjoying this tune. Thanks for sharing !
I absolutely love this piece. You did a fantastic job. Thank you! Praying for comfort for you in your recent loss.
What a pro! Awesome!
Thanks for another great video. Music is a great comforter in grief and there is something in this tune which speaks to the soul. It is unmistakably Irish but yet not typical.
Hi Katie, I'm happy to see you slowly making a comeback on uploading. Just want to say sorry on what your going through. Hope your staying positive and please take your time.
Thank you for that beautiful music. And my prayers are with your family.
Really beautiful. Enjoy the guitar! Your sound is already excellent as expected. Thank you for putting all this work in to let ppl from all over the world see and listen to you playing these wonderful songs. When i found Tam Lin, learned from you, on the guitar recently, i was overjoyed, and i try to put in your energy when i play it. Thanks again for all the inspiration, and all the best.
Very nice.
I really enjoy your fiddle music. Your fiddling is clean and crisp, very good. You are quite talented to pick up instruments and play them so quickly and your composition instrument video is really pleasing. Have you ever thought of playing the Hurty Gurty to add to your music?
Hey, it's good to see you again! I really loved the tune. I love Irish fiddle music in general, but this was really good. I needed a pick-me-up today - thanks!
Oh, so sorry about your losses! I'll be praying for you and your family. You hang in there, ok? We all love your music and are here for you. 🤗
How inspirational you're venturing into learning new instruments. It's something wonderful to stretch yourself and try to learn.
Katy, eres una artista impresionante ......BRAVOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
Your fiddle playing is excellent and so expressive...you definetly have the knack.. who do you consider a master fiddle player that you aspire too?
Hooray! Katy as I am glad to see you again and hear your game. Thank you!
Although I am from the east, I get to feel the Irish nostalgia. Thank you.
oooo this is nice:) i'am really liking any slide, or evn jigs that are played laid-back and not rushed... they jst seem to sound prettier and i don't kno y?
Great to hear O'Keefe's again and a great rendition too. I've been playing my Bodhran along with you. We used to use it as our opening tune in our band "Murphy's Lore" at gigs and beginning of practice sess's which could sometimes morph into a semi-rock/jazz version that could last more than 10 minutes. Keep up with more music.
not much a stranger can say to make you feel better, but I'll tell you what someone told me
'one day your tears will be replaced by smiles'
hang in there
great tune by the way
Sweet little tune, thank you for sharing it with us. Seems like there should
be a dance associated with it. Glad you are posting again have missed
your music.
A beautiful tune!!! So wonderful to see you are back again.
I played this at 2X speed for the Eclipse a few days ago for my family and me and I habe to say its amazing either normal speed or 2X thanks for the wonderful music for the Eclipse
Hi Katy, Best wishes for 2023.
Cheers, Colin
Hi Katy, I'm so sorry things have been and are so difficult for you. Thanks for doing this video; it's wonderful to see you again. I hope things get a bit easier with time. Much love to you.
I love it 👍🌹🎻
Love this
When I was teaching violin, the company I worked for gave me a cello and a viola to learn and teach, I got the viola, but for the life if me I couldn't get the cello. It was a matter of using different muscles to play it. So I enjoyed seeing that cello string move. Lol great job playing all those instruments together and video together! Very cool! And you look great too!
Very cool music and calming music from Australia 🇦🇺
Bravo! 👏🙂☘
Can't stop listening, Katy!
Hi Katy. Here I am in NZ thinking I should learn this one and who pops up at the top of the list😂. Nice one ❤
Hi Jeff, it’s good to hear from you! I hope you are well in New Zealand! 🇳🇿
@@KatyAdelson Thanks KT all is well! It’s nice to be here with family. Also enjoying the great music scene here in Auckland 👍
Well done! Nice to see you! Here’s hoping that better times are here for you and your family. Thanks!!! ✌️😎🌞🎻
I enjoy your music 🎶 🎵! The scenery is beautiful!
it's lovely
A very welcome addition to the multi-instrument players I've found in YT. Alina Gingertail and Arany Zoltán have a worthy companion now. Way to go, Ms. Adelson!
my new favorite video on the interwebs!! i cant wait to learn the fiddle
Very catchy music. Love to listen.
Beautiful! And the music is not too shabby either! Greetings from the UK!
GREAT !!!
Awesome
Multi talented. Wow. Thanks Katy.
One of my favorite tunes. I first heard it played as a medley alongside Road to Lisdoonvarna as well as being background music to an 18th century cooking video from the Townsends.
I am your fan for life. The cello strings are so cool. 🎻
love Katy musie
It's so lovely to see and hear you playing again! I'm sorry to hear you've been going through a difficult time but know how important music can be in making things feel better. ❤️ On another note (pun intended) I recognise the mix on this track is really brilliant and know how much fun it is to record things on real instruments! I am on a similar journey in that sense... even though I still love using all my sound libraries as well!. Wishing you all the best 😊😊
Love the videos, and outstanding work/dedication. Keep up your love of the craft; you have real talent!
