  • Dune Messiah has been officially confirmed. Denis Villeneuve's Dune Part 2 has an official sequel coming with Dune Messiah alongside a potential release date. In this video, I discuss the Dune Messiah news and give my thoughts on the upcoming sequel. Are you excited that a Dune Messiah is finally happening?
    Paul Atreides leads nomadic tribes in a battle to control the desert planet Arrakis. Dune is an upcoming epic science fiction film directed by Denis Villeneuve with a screenplay by Jon Spaihts, Villeneuve, and Eric Roth. The film is an international co-production of Canada, Hungary, the United Kingdom, and the United States. It is the first of a planned two-part adaptation of the 1965 novel of the same name by Frank Herbert, which will cover roughly the first half of the book. The film stars an ensemble cast including Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem.

    Dune Messiah has been officially confirmed thanks to an article by Deadline Hollywood. The outlet says that Denis Villeneuve will make the final film in his trilogy and then potentially follow it up with an adaptation of the recent bestselling book, Nuclear War: A Scenario.

      The remark about Messiah literally starts with "The expectation is.." (which implies an assumption)
      It's not a fact and there has not been any actual news related to Messiah in a while.
      If anything, this news implies that Messiah would happen after Nuclear War: A Scenario.
      Also, Denis is not adamantly opposed to making more Dune after Messiah; people and outlets keep misinterpreting his stance. He just does not think of movie projects too far in the future, for his "mental sanity" and doesn't commit to a project until it can actually happen.
      When Jake Hamilton pressed him about Children of Dune on Jake's Takes, as well as on the Reelblend podcast a few weeks ago, it becomes much clearer that he "would have to see where he is after Messiah, because every film you make changes you", as well as even implying in a hypothetical "another director continuing" scenario, that he still would imagine himself being involved in the projects.

    • @AdeptCharon

      And again, Deadline has not "confirmed" anything new this week.
      Dune Messiah is and has been in development AT THE SCRIPT STAGE for many months. That remains unchanged.
      Everyone is jumping at a hasty comment by an author of an article about the news of A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PROJECT.

      As a student of history (particularly the history of nuclear weapons and the science behind them), I cannot explain the absolute horror behind their use and aftermath. Let’s say you are downwind of a nuclear detonation where fallout is falling you better pray for rain quickly to wash that crap away. The gamma radiation in the dust on your roof and collecting against your house is launching millions of X-Rays into your house through your walls. Need to live in a lead box just to avoid them. I pray they are never detonated again.
      I know Villeneuve could make an amazing film that scares the crap out of everybody like the film “Threads” did back in the day!

    • @apostatereacts
      @apostatereacts 2 месяца назад +23

      Not saying this is necessarily the "correct" view, but lots of book purists think Paul's narrative arc *should* have ended with Messiah, including me, and including Villeneuve himself. It's a natural - albeit tragic - denouement to Paul's story. Nothing against those who love the later books and Paul's return as a blind prophet...each to their own. But just as Aliens should have been the close of Ripley's story, Messiah rounds up Paul's in a way consistent with Herbert's original intentions for the character. Plus there's only so much psychedelic weirdness that modern audiences will tolerate, and the books do get really, deeply weird. I think think Villeneuve made the right decision in making this a trilogy.

      Well it kinda does. It ends the story of Paul Atreides. The Preacher has forsaken his identity and everything from his past life.
      He wasn't that relevant, he was relevant only to Alia, just remember how he dies.

      ye but the preacher is just a pathetic shell of what paul once was and no pun intended frankly frank herbert should have just let him finish his arc with messiah. the ending of it is perfect and the preacher as a character doesnt really add much to the narrative of COD

    • @GamerplayerWT
      @GamerplayerWT 2 месяца назад +2

      @@morski_ludak2239 I would disagree. The Preacher starts dismantling Paul’s godhood amongst the people of Arrakis (and beyond)… and when Alia finally realizes that he IS Paul, that connection being made and then murderously broken is very impactful to Paul’s story arc.

    Given that Jessica isn’t in the novel, I can see a scenario where they incorporate a bit of her story from Children of Dune into the adaptation of Messiah. I’d like to see the complicated relationship between Jessica and Alia, not necessarily delving into her possession in CoD but at least foreshadowing it by showing Jessica being wary of Alia’s power.

    There is a curse of being too successful. When studios and the corps that own them see an IP bringing in $$. They tend to want to over milk the cow. By that they can risk running it into the ground by speeding up the creative process an producing a generic film. Deni knows this and has stated his concerns an cautions against this process.
    There's a reason why he is one of the best sci Fi directors today.

    I agree with mostly everything except the DUNE MESSIAH release date. I think 2028 is way too long.
    Although fits Velnueve's prioritizing art vs blockbuster. But I think, if he said Messiah's script is almost finished, maybe he'll start filming at the end of this year and/or starting next year's. So 2026 won't feel too distanced from DUNE II. 🤔

    As great as Dune part 2 is, it has a very different ending to the book. The book does have a real ending, even though Herbert went on to write many sequels or additional volumes of the Atreides story. The movie has no real ending, it sets itself up for another story or a continuation. Is Dune Messiah going to be just Messiah or is it to be Children of Dune also? If it is the latter, then that is quite a big undertaking.
