In the late 1990’s i owned a 340, it was an 83 Y reg & i was only its second owner from new , My Gran on my mum’s side owned it from new then sold it to me . The Renault 1.4 engine was sluggish & fuel thirsty . The only positive things i can say about the car was it was comfortable to drive & its steering lock being so good made getting out of even the tightest of spaces easy. Also the Renault engine had a distinctive sound what i did like .
Cause it was not that cheap compared to VW Golf (Rabbit), had nearly no design, perhaps a little like a sowiet-car and was even not that durable, as it was expected from a real Volvo. In Addition it was not very innovative, had still a choke, was really thirsty, loud and had still the good old leaf springs... So it lasts as a bastard in the Volvoprogram for an unbelievable long time (1976 - 1991!).
Now it's routine for Volvo's to be built in Belgium among other places! Well depends on your market but if you're in China you're Volvo is probably built in China. Same with other brands like VW and Ford. Xc40 built in China. I think they try building the s90 in China for the global market, but buyers must not have liked that because they stopped doing that not too long after starting it.
i had 360 glt , my mother bought it brand new from volvo for about 4000 pounds she did 30,000 miles in 12 years of owning then i got it . i put 50,000 in about 3 years , nevery had much problem with it , only problem very heavy at the frount and light at the back and especially in the wet you easly loose it around a bend ...
The background music on the promo add was surely the reason for its success.
better than the airwolf theme :D

Considering that at time of the video the model was 11 years old, it certainly aged well! That red 360 looks just really nice.
One of the cooler volvo cars that no one knows about

It’s mostly Americans who don’t know about them
Certainly fooled most people into thinking it was a Swedish car, when it was actually Dutch-built.
Depends on the country I guess, both in the Netherlands and in Sweden it was well known that it is a dutch built car.

As a Dutchman who loves volvos I was thrilled (part of the reason I own one)
I have owned two 360's. Miss them a lot. Also was much better in the winter than my 240 and 940.
How so?
@@zzoinks Transaxle. More weight over the rear wheels. Must also be noted that none of my volvos had one of those fancy locking differentials though
@@haavard1989 huh, thanks for explaining! That's a cool design. Have you ever put sandbags in your trunk before?
@@zzoinks no, I've never tried it
i have a 1983 360 gls most fun at winter times :D
It was common sights among Malaysians as it was used in the police fleet during those times.
Promo has shown it as a complex developement from Volvo, while it was mostly a DAF and a Renault construction... why it was not named Cameleon?
Mine is from1991 and still going….
1989 GL 1.4 manual here, terrific car, only the ULEZ stops me using it.
I WISHD ID HAD 345. 360 AND 343.. I WISHD ID HAD RED 440 AND WHITE 360 AND GREEN 343

I was not a good car it failed and did not survive long it was built in DAF factory in Holland to compete with BMW 3 Series.
