    We watched it on streaming last night. It was outstanding and Sarah Bareilles was great. The multi-camera shots and jump cuts were expertly done by the director and editor. There's always something special about a composer singing his her own songs

    Had I not been following Sarah and all of the Waitress social media I would not have known this was coming. The advertising was non existent.
    I know there is a market, but limited release with bare minimum marketing isnt going to do anyone any favors.
    As for the show itself, I loved it! It was beautiful quality and it did feel at times like I was at a live showing and had to hold myself back from clapping😅

    The shot of Drew Gehling opening the door to look at the pie on the exam table is one of my favorite shots. I loved every Jenna and cast I saw live but it's so special that Sara got to be the one in this with all she put into the show.

    Seeing this in theaters greatly exceeded my expectations! And that's even after I had already seen it on screen because I was one of those crazies sitting in a poncho in the rain for the TSX Times Sqaure showing 😅
    It was so beautifully done and really made me feel like I was in a theater. I can't watch to buy it and watch it again!

    I couldn't go to Broadway from 2016-2021 (when waitress was playing) and I knew it was a show for me. I missed the tour as well. (Crazy, not sure why) so thankful for the proshot. Took my daughter. She ugly cried. Definitely happy it performed well. The other take away needs to be more advertising. Think of how much more it could have done. Right?

    The MET also has truck loads of money. That's how they do it. Every showing of Waitress was sold out near me and this is not a theater town.

    • @itskatharinequinn
      @itskatharinequinn  6 месяцев назад +1

      OMG I love to hear that about the sold out theaters near you. The MET...does not have truck loads of money anymore (!!) times is hard. But they still manage.

    • @Ranger7Studios
      @Ranger7Studios 6 месяцев назад

      Yes, but even in hard times, the MET does still have wealthy donors. It's the PBS crowd keeping them alive. ;) Also, the fact that the MET is a proven success. So Fathom is willing to take that risk. They would have to be making some kind of money in order for the MET to keep producing. This is something Broadway should take note and get on board with. That, or maybe all the Jesus films give Fathom the money to support the MET. :) Either way, there is a precedent set here and a track record of success. So why not test the waters Broadway?@@itskatharinequinn

    I love Waitress so much and have been waiting for the proshot for so many years, but I did wish the advertisement had been better. It feels like only fans of the show saw it, and I'm afraid only preexisting fans will continue to see it since it won't be on any streaming services. Either way, I know that a lot of people still saw it, so it was definitely a success.

      This is a great point--definitely seemed like the investment on this one was LEAN marketing-wise, but honestly the whole thing felt pretty bootstrappy. I'm glad you made it! And I'm excited to revisit it on the small screen :)

    I was the only person in my theater to see it. I asked a couple of employees and they confirmed I was the only one that week to see it. I’m in southern Missouri so that’s to be expected I guess, but it was still one of the best pro shots I’ve ever laid eyes on !!

    I thought it was great and love that it was captured in this way. In my theater (AMC) the sound was way too low and sounded unbalanced 😢 glad to hear it was better everywhere else! And I was the only one of my friends who seemed to know about it - even musical fans. Kept coming up on Instagram for me, but I guess you really had to be following the right accounts. In any case I really hope they figure out a way to do more!

      Noo I hate that the sound was rough for you! That's such a huge part of the experience. Genuinely hope we continue to get better and better at knowing how to make movie musicals better--all the way to the in theater experience. And yes, fully agree, wish more could've happened in the way of marketing. Though it's amazing as many people showed up as they did just from SB's instagram!

    I loved the production. It's very rare that will will go see a three hour movie a second or third time, but this one was pretty exceptional. You talk about all the people who are making the same excuses, "It's too much money, the unions," etc. In reality, this is that, "Musical Theater "NO!", that I talk about all the time. It just seems like people are being lazy and/or just don't want to be bothered trying. Especially, when it would be so easy to make that "no" a "yes" and get it done. I hope the powers that be will start saying "yes" or there may not be a Broadway to go to anymore. In a time where people are leaving the Hollywood studio system because they are tired of reboots, franchises, or having to see all eight movies in order to enjoy the one they actually want to see, now is the time for Broadway to strike. People are craving indie films more, because those films have better writing and have better storytelling. Broadway would benefit from this. I guess time will tell.

    • @itskatharinequinn

      It's tricky. The producers did this supposedly out of a labor of love, but we don't have a profitable pipeline for these in general and definitely not for this one. It's gonna be bumpy until we have a solid system and infrastructure.

      I wonder why they aren't using/looking at the MET/Fathom model. Seems pretty tested and may perhaps be a good foundation to build on. But like all things, it's true, it will take time.@@itskatharinequinn
