Hi Katharine!! Not my first Broadway visit but I made a last minute reservation in order to see Once Upon a Mattress on Sept. 7. Now that I'm already going to be there- any recommendations for a matinee that same day?

Ooooh! Oh Mary :) You can just get barrels of giggles in a day. They have a 5pm and it's only 80 minutes. You could actually do a 3 show day if you find a 2pm lol! Could do Hell's Kitchen, Gatsby, Outsiders, or Suffs I think!

I have never been more uncomfortable then sitting in a Broadway show seat…. But I loved the show but just know if you are tall or wide at all it is painful!

Warn people that most theaters don't open until 30-40mins prior to the start time. Be prepared to wait outside regardless of weather conditions. Pay attention to directions given by FOH staff. And for God's sake, please read your tickets ahead of time to get an idea of where you're sitting. You can look at the venues seating charts online. Row one is usually A. Row two is B etc. Usually, odd number seats are on one side and even on the other, etc. Sounds obvious, but getting inside is a surprising hassle because people act lost and slow the seating process down. Big pet peeve.

Not a rule, but I find I'm more invested in a musical if I already kinda know the music. Check out the cast album beforehand (if there is one) and see how the cast brings it to life on stage. I mean if we're going to spend all this money on tickets, might as well go all in.

@@joannekatendeI actually disagree. I prefer to go in totally blind and avoid spoilers that are inevitably in the cast albums, or comparing the vocals of the cast you see live vs the produced version. I recognize that some people listen ahead as a way to make informed choices between shows, but to me I'd rather have as unbiased a first experience as possible. It's all down to personal preference as far as what will make your theatre experience more enjoyable but just want to reiterate that there's no need to study the album beforehand (in case anyone gets that impression).

@@joannekatende It's so show to show for me. Sometimes I *love* going in knowing the music, other times I want to be totally surprised!

I mentioned that he is 15 yr old not for the plot but because I thought about something 'spectalular' for him. Chicago, maybe?
