  • With 320 kW (435 hp) and 900 Nm (663.8 lb ft) of torque, the new Audi SQ7 TDI is the most powerful diesel SUV on the market. It also leads the competition in numerous other technical fields. Its newly developed 4.0 TDI engine features a world first:
An electric powered compressor gives the SQ7 TDI outstanding off-the-line performance. Yet it consumes on average 7.4 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (31.8 US mpg).

This is awesome. People must understand that the electric compressor is really a game changer. Had to be the Germans.

This is a very complex machine. It has 4 exhaust manifold and each turbo gets exhaust fed from both side of the bank. Valvetronic on the exhaust side. This is like a super-mutant diesel engine.

This is probably the only diesel car I would consider buying. This and maybe the 1.9 tdi

Now that Audi is moving to 48v system across the range, expect to see some interesting use of electric motors to reduce lag and increase performance. Maybe on the RS models??

+Steevenoo Well if you have 664lb/ft of torque at 1000rpm weight its the last of my concerns, and have you ever seen the weight of the V6 version of the Q7 and weight of the Volvo XC90 with a 4 cyl, you would be amazed by the difference

Couldn't they just use electric compressor(s) (electric turbos) to replace the traditional turbos? Wouldn't they be able to spin up much faster, be easier to replace? It look like they already have a battery system to store up enough power to power an electric compressor

Without a conventional turbocharger, the exhaust energy would be wasted.

They probably could have pulled off a one unit that consists of a turbine, compressor, and generator/motor all together. Idk why they didn’t, maybe next gen?

    • @digitaldreamer8637

They would run out of battery. The electric compressor is only used for maybe 1 second until the main turbo is spooled and online!
