I often find myself saying negative things about contemporary art: it's lazy; it's too obscure; it's just mental mastubation; it's form over substance; it's trendy; it's derivative. Before seeing this video, I'd never heard of Hew Locke. But wow...this work is beautiful, timeless, and thought-provoking. Thank you for this. Too bad I'll never see it in person.
The procession is a magnificent achievement. Absolutely appreciated it and it spoke volumes. I have a thing about boats too but until I heard Locke's reason for his fascination for them, had no idea why. I also qrrived with family to England by boat from Finland. I urge anyone who hsnt seen this to do so xx
Impossible not to notice, once you find yourself in Tate Britain. I came there for a whole different reason and found myself being drawn in, curious, and fascinated. After watching this video, I appreciate the piece even more, and the way the artist speaks about his work is so heartfelt and sincere!
You always need the artist to tell you what it is. I went to Tate Britain today and stumbled into this outstanding piece of work, I found it intriguing and disquieting in places but I didn’t give it my full attention and passed on to something else very quickly. What a shame!
Must see. You will feel like stampeded by the work. I remember myself fantasizing as if I am in a Pixar movie, Grimm Tale or whatever of everything I have seen there animated, moving and living.
Wonderful voice and soft tones which is how I want to hear him speak. I was listening to a curator who sounded like a forced voice trying to be upper class. This is much better. A voice means class in this country and I disagree with trying to be something we are not. Wonderful as I am a dance anthroplogy researcher. I danced in carnival and wanted to know why …..and went to South America to find the dance
I knew I wanted this amazing spectacle as the visual accompaniment to my new song about outsider artists after attending recently! So I put the phone camera to work! Check out: Ivory Towers - The Inhibitionist.
stunning work, and I could listen to him discuss his work for hours. Had never encountered his stuff before.
same!! And I instantly love him!
I absolutely love this. The Procession speaks to your soul. Wish I lived in London and could see it every week. Thank you for giving us this.
The word is wow. I have never seen any art work like this before. Amazing work.

I seen this a week ago. I loved it!! It’s an outstanding piece of art. 👏👏👏
Saw it on Sunday. Amazing Hew. Loved it 😍
It's a staggering, amazing and incredibly beautiful work.
Spent hours walking around this piece when visiting Tate. Was in loss of words for many emotions I was feeling.
Amazing! The people in the procession look impossible but still they look as if they are real and about to move.
Yes, they are so culturally layered I want to meet them, talk with them, learn from them.
WOW! Truly stunning beauty- at many levels.
It’s a must see, I’m looking forward to visiting.
The art, and his words speaks to me soo much. It is wonderful to see, and wonderful to create your own story, floting along others to.
Wow! Thanks so much for sharing this.
Wow incredible!! Absolutely phenomenal! What a true artist and I love his work. I could listen to him talk for so long
Breathtaking

So proud of Hew❤️🩹
Great video. Don't suppose anybody has any idea what the music is/who the musician/composer is?

@aieko I have given up on hope, I’m not anticipating or wishing anything so life is no longer disappointing me.
@@ArtbyKatina I understand fully. Have a much more peaceful and productive life since I abandoned all hope. Hope and expectation are false gods.
'Let's make something positive! with a slave mask? LOL
