Especially without the 5.1 mix that was included in all the other box sets.

Greetings. Regarding the shout outs, Michael has said in a few previous videos that he is several months behind with the shout outs to new subscribers. I haven't gotten my shout out yet either. I'm not sure exactly when I subscribed but it probaby was about two months ago. Michael has said that everybody who has subscribed on or before October 28, 2022, will eventually get a shout out like he has been doing. Those who subscribe after that will be acknowledged some other way.
Hi Michael, prior to listening to this video, I felt adding outtakes, premixes and remixes was nothing more than a way to fluff up the box set to charge more $. Thanks for opening my eyes, I get it now brother. Michael join us this Sunday on "ROYCE IN THE HOUSE" our live podcast will be on the SUMMER OF LOVE and how and why it came about.
It’s Ringo singing take 4, listen to the last verse “in our yellow Submarine” the tiny little voice crack when he gets to the Sub. It’s the exact same as the final cut
@@MichaelNoland-TheBottomLine it is the exact same vocal take we've alway known. For some reason they slowed down the tape (from G to F#) when Ringo sang it (probably because of the register thing that you just mentioned) and when they sped the tape back up to normal, Ringo's voice had a slught chipmunk quality to it. So they must've eventually decided that the F# slow version was the better choice... and it certainly was.

Very nice analysis of the album Michael. Beatles are always a fantastic subject and they were geniuses all four. Oh and did I read somewhere that it was George who mentioned to Geoff about using a bass cabinet as a microphone? I forgot how it was put, I used to remember everything I would read but now not so much. Thanks friend .
HI gary! No, I haven’t read that! Geoff lays claim to coming up with the idea in his book ‘Here, There, and Everywhere’! Look at some of my older videos on the Beatles, and I discuss both the genius & pettiness of Mr. Emerick! You’ll know your warm, if I’m wearing a full beard in the video!😉👌
Very informative and deep dive review, Mike. I got the 2 CD edition which has the Session 1 out takes since I've already have the bootlegs, Amazon Music subscription, Spotify, Revolver CD in 2009 and the 2012 vinyl.
It’s always a good day when we get a new video from The Bottom Line! Great addition to your previous Revolver review. I really enjoyed many of these extras from the box set too. As you mentioned, the acoustic Love You To was a real standout, as was the full instrumental run-through of Paperback Writer. What a killer groove.
RM is remix mono. RS is remix stereo. Some additional info: back in the day at Abbey Road the master, chosen version was marked ‘Best’ Hope that helps 😁
Hi Michael, Great video, I could be wrong but I have a feeling that "Tomorrow Never Knows Mono Mix RM11" is the actual version that was accidentally released on the first UK version of Revolver that was recalled after one day. The first pressings are now very rare and can be extremely expensive to purchase. Oh, RM means remix.
can say for sure its Ringo singing Take 4 of Yellow Submarine. If you listen closely you can hear John count it off from the guitar microphone at the start.
I heard that the new remixed album does not include a Blu-ray, which was standard for all Beatles reissue releases. Is there any reason why it was not included?
Great video as usual Michael. I really enjoy your content. I don’t believe Paul played the bass at that speed on ‘Rain (take 5). think it was overdubbed at the speed we hear it on the released version. Just my two cents.
RM11 means Remix Mono #11. That's the Version which was released on the 1st pressing of Revolver and was replaced by the common mono Mix. The replacement was requestet by John Lennon. It is unknown how many of this first day pressings were delivered to the stores.
I`m having a hard time breaking down to spend the $330 ( Canadian ) to buy this box set. But I know its only a matter of time before I absolutely need to have it. Great review of the outtake discs I`ll rarely ever listen to Mike. The 45 will get played more often. I love the snare drum on Revolver. I would have thought more reviewers would talk about how amazing and how forward the snare drum recording is on this album.
I’m in Canada and bought the Beatles mono vinyl boxset for $250 from HMV. I’m not going to indulge in being gouged by greedy record company so I stuck it to them with free download. 😂
Brian Wilson didn't have George Martin telling him what to record. He was basically producing every piece of music himself, even if the wrecking crew were hired hands. It is always hilarious how other artists are always made to seem inferior to the four mop heads by their advert fanatics, because of the studio trickery, overdubs and tape loops of Martin. The studio outtakes do sound interesting, but the deluxe version of "Revolver" does appear to be yet another ultra expensive cash grab. I am certainly happy with my used copy of the stereo CD. It is fine to these ears. Since some people obviously want to have the latest versions, their old copies are discarded and wind up filling used CD bins and Salvation Army shops once more. In fact, that is how I bought my entire Beatles collection.
Michael, I follow your blog/subscription with great interest. Especially when it comes to the Beatles. I have a difficult time following differences with mixes/tracks and such, as you do not play the actual comparison tracks for us to evaluate. Maybe it is an issue with music property rights. Besides that the Bottom Line is Awesome!
Only today I listened to this new Revolver remix. I enjoyed listening to it. It was fun. However, I prefer the mono recording from the mono box set released in 2014 (?)
She's Leaving Home on the 2017 Pepper's Remix sounds very fast also, so fast that I thought there was something wrong with my CD when I bought it so I took it back to the store in exchange for another one, only later finding out it was recorded fast so they could later slow it down. I like the regular slowed down version we've all known for decades, that newer remixed version sounds incredibly fast like they're rushing it, the whole song is 10 seconds shorter than the original. I wish Giles Martin would've just remixed the original and left the speed alone. What's your thoughts about this? Have you noticed it also?
@@SydBarrettArchives I'm not so sure it was accidental, I just can't see George Martin leaving in any kind of mistake while they are recording an album, especially as something as huge as that
There isn't any difference besides the mastering. I haven't done an A/B comparison, but they are from the exact same source: the original 1966 mono mixes.
Personally I prefer take 7 of Dr. Robert which has deeper/fuller bass than the remixed version. My main issue with the original stereo mix of Revolver is that many tracks lacks proper bass.
I so agree regarding the bass on the original stereo versions, MIB! Even when they were nice and full, they’d get slapped to one side or another and squelched out by the other instruments on whatever channel it happened to be slapped on! ❤
Do you really believe that what we hear on "Rain (Actual Speed)" outtake is the REAL bass guitar part? Not speeded up at all? Well, take your bass and try to play it in the key of Bb, as it is presented on the Session disc (CD or LP). You're gonna find out, that the only suitable way of performing that very complicated part is in the key of G, which is how the song "Rain" is existing in its finished form. And I'm not mentioning the drum part here - even Ringo couldn't have played it with such a speed it is given to us on this new Sessions release. And what about the electric guitars, sounding open stringed in the key of Bb - how's that? Did John and George use capos? Why on Earth? The answer might be an easy one: Giles and C° have cheated us. Either they decided to have fun with us, or they really don't know how the real bass guitar sounds like. The bass part was definitely recorded AFTER the Beatles put down guitars and drums and slowed the tape down to the key of G. But moreover, they didn't play the song in Bb, they played it in A. Just check out: slow the recording to the key of A, and you're not only gonna get the "actual" electric guitars sound, but also the more truthful speed of Ringo's drumming. The only anomaly would be the Beatles voices before and after the take: in A they sound unnaturally slow. But... then, who knows. The same thing with "Yellow Submarine" (Take 4 before sound effects): Giles has given us a track, where the instruments play with their actual speed in the key of G, but he somehow forgot to exclude the vocals, which were recorded after the tape was slowed down to F#. As a result the vocals sound Mickey Mouse-like to the point you can't tell wherever the lead singer is Ringo or John.
I agree with you. The bass definitely was not recorded at high speed and then slowed down. Paul obviously added the bass after the track was slowed down to G. This was done so the drums/cymbals and guitars would sound deeper and trippier than normal. But that leaves the mystery of Bb in an open position. My theory is that The Beatles tuned their guitars up a half step (or simply used a capo) before the fast take in anticipation of the drastic slowing down to the desired key and tempo...and then played it in A position. Ringo's drums sound normal on the Bb version and he was certainly capable of playing at that speed. This would explain the abnormal sounding talking voices when the take is tuned to A.
I wrote a piece in the hope of starting a debate, and discussing further about the merits especially of the remix? Oh well.Guess this part is only for subscribers? That's ok.
