About 25 years ago he was directing a movie near my friends house. During a break in filming he walked around and shook hands with the entire crowd of people (including myself) and thanked us for coming. What a genuinely nice guy.
I scrolled down to see if anyone else said this. I know very few people who, as we Southerners say, "nobody has a word to say against." Henry Winkler is living proof of how someone can be a marvelous, helpful friend who's always there, but absolutely nobody's doormat. It's his superpower, and it's why he was always in contact with people who would gladly help him in return.
True Story: I was at a Laker game in the 80's, I was probably 11 or 12. If you remember the Forum it had long aisles. I was walk Ing down and recognized him. I asked for his autograph and he declined very respectfully, but asked me to write my name and address on a napkin and he would send me something. Being that young i never expected him to send me anything, i was just grateful that i got a chance to meet him. Sure enough maybe a month later, i received an autographed picture of him. It said ; " Mark smile your cool heart out!! Have a great life, and it was great meeting you!" Needless to say that made my year, and yes of course i still have the picture and will always treasure it. Not too many A list celebs would've done that(mingle with the common folk) As far as I'm concerned he's the best and always will be.
I was in a maple leafs game and I saw Tom Green on a aisle seat, I lived Freddy for fingered so I decided to ask for his autograph, he sarcastically responded and said he'd send me a little something If I gave him my address, I wasbt expecting anything just thought it was a tactic to make me go away, but sure enough a month later I received a parcel in the mail, I opened it and there was a pile of moose poop 🫎💩 This may have happened or I could have just been inspired by a comment I read on RUclips once
I met Henry Winkler when he was staying in Orlando filming the Waterboy. He would come into the Sub shop I was working at everyday and get his slice of Pizza while waiting for his order. He was the nicest and kindest person I have ever met and we even took a picture together.
I met him back In the uk In 2008, he Is a gentleman and a really nice guy, The amount of people queuing up to see him and get a autograph was astounding.
Mr Winkler played in a Christmas Movie called *The Most Time of the year* 2017 and that was so nice to see him . He did an Amazing Job. If you haven't seen it, look it up and watch it. I wished I, could meet Mr. Winkler and Mrs. Winkler, both.
I didn't know that. I had seen him in American Christmas Carol he filmed in Canada with Canadian celebrities. He was only 27 and did a remarkable job at playing Benedict Slade at various ages in his life. His elderly Slade was quite convincing.
I'm old and this is the first interview I've ever heard with him. He seems like such a genuine and kind individual. Like that grandpa that everyone loves. Sorry Henry 🙂
A favourite Winkler movie, An American Christmas Carol, was filmed in Canada with Canadian celebrities. Lots of respect as he was only 27 playing Slade at various points of his character's life. He was so absolutely convincing as the elderly Slade.
To this day Henry Winkler is the only man I ever impulsively asked for a hug from when I met him. That never happened. It was just his genuine care, kindness, and his soul that just made me melt. He is incredible!
As a former airline crew member, I have had many celebrities as passengers. Some were real jerks (Jerry Lewis) and some were really nice. This was around 1975. Henry Winkler flew my trip from Chicago to Los Angeles. Very friendly gentleman! Really enjoyed having him as a passenger!
In 1991, a couple of friends and I went to see the Disney movie, Beauty and the Beast, at the theaters next to Universal Studios Hollywood. We’re sitting there waiting for the previews to start and we see Henry Winkler coming down the isle with a couple of kids (We all assumed that those were his kids) on their way to their seats. Every one who was seated started whispering. One guy sitting in the back yelled out “HEY!” doing his best Fonzie impression. I just remember going 🤦🏻♀️ because I’d read that while Mr. Winkler was thankful to be able play the Fonz, he was afraid of being typecast because of that role.
I met Henry Winkler in 1978 in cleveland ohio at a car show when I was 10. A memory I've never forgotten. I loved watching Happy Days and was so happy to shake his hand.
I used to teach Henry Walkers great great niece to sew. She said, he’s so nice he lets you sit in his expensive cars. Her mom said, he’s the nicest person she ever meet. Which is so cool.
Still a great person who brought so much happiness to people through his work. Thanks for the laughs and confidence building as Coach Klein character and Fonzie. I loved the Tulsa King show and all Stallone’s work. Bob call Henry fans will watch. John Rich and Sandler and this show’s hosts have always been fun to watch.
As someone with dyslexia I really love his personal story. He's seemed to have stayed true to himself throughout the changes in his career with gratitude and devotion to his family and others.
Mr Henry Winkler would be a person I'd love to meet because he is a real person that doesn't hold himself above others which makes me admire him all the more.
This can't be hand written and may never be read by Henry but I'd like anyone that sees this to know that he is a good soul that is seen through his work and what people that do know him, say about him. His work reflects his decency and values because he brought heart, compassion, warmth, vulnerability to the cool, tough guy, fonzi. And his other characters in other movies also beloved. I believe he picks characters based on their goodness or potential for it. He has made a great roll model, consciously for all us kids growing up in the 70s and only the Lord knows what a positive influence he has brought to millions of kids and adults. Same with the imaginative brilliant ground breaking MacGyver series! Thanks for holding to that higher positive road, Mr Winkler! Every knows it's not an easy roll and image to maintain and live up to.
If any of you don’t know, Henry Winkler did a modern adaptation of ‘a Christmas Carol’ in 1979 called ‘an American Christmas Carol’. He doesn’t play Scrooge, he plays Benedict Slade, but it’s the same basic character. The creators just didn’t want to use the original names since it was a modern setting for the story. This was the only version of a Christmas Carol that made my mother cry. Henry Winkler really is a great actor.
I remember that. It was filmed in Canada with Canadian celebrities. Lot of respect as he was only 27 playing Slade at various points of his character's life. He was so absolutely convincing as the elderly Slade. A favourite Winkler movie for sure.
I knew Henry Winkler had a connection to the expression 'Jump the Shark'. But I didn't know he also has a connection to concept of 'MacGyvering' something (make or repair something). He's had a real impact on pop-culture.
Its funny, I watched Happy Days when I was about 7-10 and only knew Henry as the Fonze and I never saw him again until he was in The Waterboy. In Happy Days he was this cool guy with no fear and seeing him in The Waterboy, I didn't know what to think, as he was completely opposite to Fonzy. For some reason I thought he would be more like Fonzy in real life then he was in The Waterboy, but he seems more like The Waterboy character in real life and just seems like a real nice genuine person to.
The most touching Happy Days episode for me was when Richie got into a motorcycle accident and Fonzie prays for him in the hospital room . God Bless You Henry !
I'm so glad that i got to grow up watching Happy Days! I never missed an episode. My cousin actually got suspended from school for acting like the Fonz, and I got kicked out of class for laughing at him. Henry Winkler is one of the few good people in Hollywood.
I love Henry. I grew up on al of those late 70s-early 80s shows. He seems like he would treat the random Joe as if they were the most important person he's met that day.
I absolutely love MacGyver and I'll watch the reruns every time I run into them. I am so grateful that he went on to do things after Happy Days and he came up with that show.
He’s an absolute treasure. Also does great voice over work in Monsters at Work on Disney +. I love that I grew up watching him and now my kids can enjoy his work, too.
I’ve loved HW since Happy Days… I’ve adored him since I saw an interview where he was photographed with what I thought was MY dog sitting on his lap… I knew he had to be all good if he loved black and grey Labradoodles like I did 🫶
I grew up watching Happy Days and of course I was in love with The Fonz! I was in Germany in 1982 or 83 and the whole cast came to play softball with the Army’s team. I think that Anson Williams father in law was a General in the Army if I am remembering it correctly. Anyway my husband at the time was Henry Winkler’s body guard while on the base. Long story short I got to meet all of the cast and they were all so very nice. Got a lot of pictures.
Henry is very talented and I wish typecasting hadn't interfered with him doing diverse other acting roles. I think I'd love to see him play any character at all.
LOL.......... a tad off topic ....... years back I was background on the original MacGyver TV series. It must be that birds of a feather flock together. I remember Richard Dean waltzing exhausted onto set. Doing much the same. Shaking hands and being genuine. It was his birthday and he literally flopped exhausted on the floor. Then he rose and lovingly walked over to a couple older women and said to the director.... "make sure these two get on camera". I thought they were going to melt LOL. Thank you Mr Winkler for your productions and those you've lifted up........ the film industry needs many more of your kind. It gives a constant compass as to where actors should go when success arrives. Inspiration Inspiration Inspiration.
Are those jacks on the table? I used to play with those lots of fun. I never met him, but enjoyed watching him on Happy Days. I'm glad I saw this interview.
In mid 70's I was in middle school, and on Halloween there must have been about 40 little "Fonzis" in attendance. What a day! Even the teachers got a big kick out of it.
I grew up watching this man and LOVED the Happy Days....I did love the Fonz but seeing how my name is Anson, Potsie was my favorite of the show...haha.

It's nice to see he is doing great
My favorite character he ever played was the lawyer on the show with Jason Bateman. Arrested Development! Best and most underrated show ever!
A man who has never had a bad word said about him and well deserved 😊

The Fonz may have jumped the shark, but Henry landed in our hearts forever.
That's good...Cool wording.
Not really.
He seems to be such a nice guy. Very humble
If you know what jumping the shark means it's very clever wording

It's just to bad Rob Reiner turned out to be such a pathetic human being and hard core leftist.

He is the definition of a life well lived. When the people you meet over the years have nothing but love and respect for you- you know.
