    I made a little wire retainer out of some old 12-2 electrical wire that wraps around my little tupperware tub, and has a hook bent into each end, that hooks in my wheel holes. Keeps me from having to hold it while I wait for the hub to drain. Wire then stores in my tupperware container when I'm all done.

      @@LoadMizer Exactly. I actually have 2 tubs (that stack together for storage, obviously) and do both axles at the same time. You have a strong understanding that time is money. ;)

      Geriatric Ginger that’s the truth man! I’d for sure make a set and bleed both hubs at the same time. It’s rare that I have enough time in the day to just be doing 1 thing 🤣🤣

    Why would they make an all plastic cap for something that important? Cutting corners on something like that SMH. More of this content and truck maintenance is a must!! Just sub'd, great channel!

      Don't the new Ford trucks have plastic oil drain plugs? And there's some import cars out there with plastic oil pans, shit is getting ridiculous.

      I sold the trailer I had these on but I really did like them, made maintenance really easy and the aluminum was great for keeping the oil temps down 👍

    I'm about to change to these, hence I've happened upon your video over 2 years later. How often should you be pulling the entire bearing assembly out and checking that?

      I’ve heard every 6 to 8 months, I just had my hub bearing closest to the fill cap blow well due to negligence on my part of not checking the oil level

    Does every oil bath hub needs to have a breather? Friction creates heat and pressure in a closed system like a hub? Is this cap has it?

    What happens if you overfill them with oil? Just replaced my caps with this and went a little bit over the bottom of the plug

    I have these exact hubs , is it normal that all of them leak a little bit . What should I do to maintain them .?

      They shouldn’t leak. The only oil I saw seep out of mine was from the oil that squeezed past the O-ring when I was installing them. For maintenance just change the oil in them like you would the plastic caps. I believe most trailers are around every 15k miles. If your caps are leaking make sure you didn’t over tighten them and pinch the O-ring.

      glory boyz I check my hub oil levels typically about 4 times per day. It’s easy with the sight glass. It’s really just a glance but I also reach down and just touch the hub. Make sure it’s not super hot. Change your hub oil as the maintenance schedule calls for it and watch for leaks out of the seals. Top off with grease as the schedule calls for it if you’re not running oil bath. You do all that you’ll be doing everything you can to prevent them from failing.

      I got mine here. They’re not cheap but they should last way longer than multiple sets of plastic caps. triplertruckparts.com/hub-caps-parts/

      I’m just skeptical on these axles coming from the big truck side of things. These trailers take a beating. The last thing I need is to grenade a bearing. This will make maintenance way easier for me and will hopefully outlast the trailer itself.

    Would have been nice if the company would have put a square hole in the handle so you could have used an extension and a breaker bar to loosen the cap..

      Tractor supply sells sockets for about the same price as that, then you can use a torque wrench to tighten

      Mac McGuire I got mine here triplertruckparts.com/hub-caps-parts/?sort=alphaasc&page=3#0 check your cap for a mode number. I think you’ll need the ST-400 for 12k axles.

    How often do you need to change the oil

      The maintenance schedule for bearings is usually 12-15k. With oil bath in order to inspect bearings you’ll need to drain your hub to get to it. So typically about every month or every other month you’ll be draining and replacing your hub oil 👍

      Hey man thanks for subscribing. Yeah I need a smaller hammer like a ball ping. I had a brass hammer from when I pulled a tanker but it’s apparently run away somewhere. I actually do need a claw hammer for pulling nails when shippers block and brace certain loads with a nail gun. But yeah shouldn’t be beating my wheel to death with it 🤣🤣

    on 10k axles oil is the way to go but for single wheel axles you need greese the seals will fail on the back and you will lose the bearing grease want leak out i had a failed seal on my trailer and didnt know i was just going in to check my brakes and foudn it failed and coated the brakes in grease but it didnt leak enough out too destroy my bearings i go in mine ever 30k for brake check and repack bearing dual guys have better luck with oil and onestly its better easy to mainatain plus you guys dont go need to check your brake pad as much as us bc yall have way bigger shoes the small 12x2 dont last long

      That and the cost you in capacity. I like being able to haul up to 18k. I usually don’t but I float around the 10-14k range slot.

      I usually stay around 3k to 6k hauling expedited stuff usely stuff that get canceled last minute or recover stuff from guys who brake down some time I wish I had the capacity but I can scale 11k when I need too which is why I run 8k axle now I keep bending 7ks when fully loaded on some of the bad road i end up on

      Absolutely would. It’d be a little flimsy but would definitely work. With the drain plugs on these new caps I can just use an empty water or soda bottle now 💪

    Trying to decide what trailer / manufacture to go with. Hey if anyone can help with an Insurance co. Last ticket over 9 years ago and a good credit score everyone is quoting me over $32,000. I appreciate all you guys that share info for us newbies.

      Trailer manufacturer is something I’d gauge based on where you live before deciding other things. For any warranty work and stuff you’d want to make sure there’s a place close to the house and that there’s a pretty decent network through the states you plan to travel through. That quote is ridiculous. Starting insurance shouldn’t cost you more than 15k-20k per year and even that’s on the top end. Play with your deductible too. I’d be hard pressed to actually file a claim on anything under 5k if I could avoid it. So that’s what I have my deductible at. Makes a big difference.

    These things are junk only way to seal them is separate them and rtv after they are thoroughly cleaned. Done forever never need another repair and u never need worry about oil leaking out.

      I’ve had some spin off but I’m pretty sure it was just what was squeezed out of the O ring when I tightened them up. It was red which was the stock oil and the Lucas oil is green/yellow. Hopefully I don’t have any issues. I’ve got them wiped down from earlier. No new oil for the last 230 miles.

      I'm guessing they leak cause you never put a torque wrench with a socket and got them tight? Once they warmed up everything expanded and loosened up!
