  • Kwasi Kwarteng has taken to the despatch box to unveil a mini-budget expected to include billions of pounds of tax cuts.
The Chancellor has announced sweeping moves intended to rev up the economy in the “fiscal event” which started at 9.35am.
The Government is dubbing it a “growth plan” at a time when the UK faces a cost-of-living crisis, recession, soaring inflation and climbing interest rates.

Interesting to hear Tories cheering this at the time. They didn't think it was wrong until markets reacted.

Kwangtang was given the job as Chancellor but he didn't have a clue. May as well have put Phillip Schofield in the job.

Did I miss any part about petrol and diesel duty, if I did please correct me, but if it wasn't a reduction, then to me, taking into account the devaluation of the pound in my pocket it was an increase. As a commuter a concern of mine that is far more important to me than promised tax cuts in 6 months and the £15 a week that is promised for my utility cost relief, and I will believe that when I see it, is the 75% increase in the cost of my commuting diesel bill over the last 6 months that I pay out today.
As a working class Tory voter, man and boy, for 45 years I have come to the end of my tether of Conservative governments disregarding my requests and needs in favour of those who's pockets are already full, and ignoring those of us who scratch a living to keep our heads above water. All these tax cuts and the like will have to be covered and recouped one day by someone, just like the cost of the furlough bill, you can bet that it will fall upon the working classes and not those in the higher ranks of society.
If I had doubts about my allegiance to the Tories before this budget I think my mind is now made up that they can no longer rely on my vote.

Good on y'a, MFF. If you don't like Starmer or Labour, just vote for anybody else. Vote for Larry the Cat 😺 if you have to.
These lot deserve to be on the opposite Benches now for a good 20 Years or so. It'll work wonders for their arrogance and duplicity. They'll reawaken feeling refreshed whilst in Opposition.

He got sacked because he gave bad advice to his boss. The consequences of his error were just too great for him to remain in his post.
