Was Tampa wrong for parting way with Captain, Steven Stamkos, and should Victor Hedman be appointed captain this season?

Hedman will & should be the captain, it’s very obvious. Nothing wrong with letting stammer walk. If you wanna play for the lightning, you gotta take a discount. He didn’t want to.

Yes and no. The way they did it was terrible, especially if they didn't even really negotiate (as seems to be the case). But the reality is, 40 goals or not, Stamkos is no longer what people who don't watch him believe he is. His 5v5 game is just not good anymore, and TB has shown in the past that the PP can survive without him.
Hedman will obviously be captain. Not even a question.

I don't think JBB had a choice, they offered 3 million+ per year in a 4th or 5th contract for Stammer and he wouldn't take it and apparently thought He deserved around what his last contact term was, which is so crazy!! He literally is a 1 trick pony anyways, helluva slap shot, but that's it. He's also got a negative and has been for quite awhile now. Plus he fights like a girl 😂 just had to say it. Hedman is going to make a great captain and we will have Hagel Point & Kuch plus there's a lot of youth on the team now. Going to be excited to see how this season plays out.
Wish Stamkos all the best with Nashville btw.

stamkos signed for more money with NSH than he’s worth. his contract will age like room temperature milk by year 3. maybe even sooner.
hedman signed for pretty much a comparable amount he was already getting. he makes $7.8m on his current deal, and will get an earth-shattering $200k wage adjustment. hedman plays more minutes, plays more games (stamkos has an injury history) and plays a PREMIUM position.
stamkos is a declining 34-year old winger, whose 5v5 production has been in freefall for 3 years. 19 of his 40 goals came on the PP. anyways, victor hedman is a conn smythe winner and 6 times norris finalist who will be making $8M for the first time in his career. he’s the one who got much less than he’s worth over the years.
if hedman decided to have gone to market, he would have gotten $10m+ /AAV all day long, 7 days a week.
as far as captain, hedman is the corrrect choice. the alternative could be kucherov with his amazing people skills lol. ⚡

      Well said.
I wonder how much Tampa was offering. It would be crazy for someone as financially secured as Stamkos to jump ship over anything more than 1M. It's no surprise he went to Nashville vs some Canadian team with higher tax implications. I don't fault players for doing what's best for themselves and their family, it is a business like Victor said.
      Just found this searching:
It was reported that the club offered Stamkos an eight-year, $24 million contract - carrying a measly $3 million in AAV. While Stamkos may have been willing to take a hometown discount, $3 million is well below market value for a player coming off an 81-point season.
I don't blame Stamkos at all. That's pretty insulting and he was being very polite in his post-signing interviews about Tampa, if that was the offer. There's lowballing and then there is this. The guy was the face of the franchise and Captain.

Hedman is the right choice for the C. Kuch would be too as he is the leader on the ice. But he doesn't like talking to the media. Which comes with the C. Even though Kuch pretty much runs the offense telling teammates where to be and what to do. Even when stammer was playing Kuch ran the offense, not Stamkos.

Hedman, a future hall of famer who just had nearly a point per game season as a defenceman signed for $8 million. And habs fans are acting like slafkovsky took a discount lmfao.
