Thank you gentlemen immensely for this trip to the cemetery to see Mr. Bud Horton and all who lay at rest. My mom is buried in a church cemetery just like that in rural Blounts Creek North Carolina. I last visited her grave and my relatives there in 2017. There aren't that many old timers left who can tell the history of a small rural town. Upon seeing this video; I'm wiping tears fom my eyes reflecting on my own family history. Thank you again and God bless you mightily🙏❤👍
Mr Bud would have been so interesting to talk with on a sunny afternoon out on the porch with a tall glass of sweet tea! His stories would have been priceless and I am glad Dan got that opportunity and that he is sharing that heritage with us! If some of the younger folks don't take an interest then one day those stories will all be lost to us. Thank you for doing that Robert!
Sandysue202…… Very well said ! I was thinking the very same thing about sitting on the porch with Mr. Bud, listening to him, drinking said sweet tea, but my mind also added comfy old rocking chairs ! LOL !! You are so right about the knowledge this man had , and, thanks to Dan, some history has been preserved.
As you were wrapping up the video I couldn't help think and understand that even though Bud Horton never knew what youtube or even the internet was, he is in many respects the third host of some of these videos through the knowledge the passed down. I wish he could have seen the impact he would have decades after he left us and I'm glad we were introduced to him and his own history. Thank you for this and yesterdays videos.
Story's.. my great grandma was Fanny Sue Hill. She actually had several original names for several aunt's. Now her great great grandma was Missouri Ann brown. She came through the trail of tears. She was a very short woman. But she was known by all to be loved by all. She would help anyone she could with natural herbs and plants. This was all close to Clay Kentucky. So blessed to have known my gr. Grandma. Leta
My hat off to you both for doing what you're doing, preserving History, this should always be taught in all History classes, the personal look into each person Mr. Dan talked about holds their life story, that at one time was a life... much respect goes out to you.. a huge thank you and i sure hope we get more on this as time goes by... hugs from wisconsin
Thank you, Dan, for listening & learning from your elders and for saving precious mementos & photos. Also, thank you for passing your knowledge on to Robert. Thank you, Robert, for continuing Dan’s work & documenting the past before it’s gone, forever. Thank you, both, for caring.
Love the history Mr Dan. My wife and I were down there two weekends ago, we're looking at house in Pine Mountain maybe we'll be neighbors hope to meet y'all that will be a treat.....
Interesting, excellent; faces with the names, stories with the names and faces, it makes a big impact, a connection. I appreciate both of you, Dan and Robert. Dan should definitely write a book. Robert you have been carrying it forward for a while, I hope you can continue to do so for many, many years to come. "Improving the Future. Preserving the Past." I had that engraved for many reasons. 👍👍❣️❣️
It is good to have a local historian as part of your community and all communities should have at least one. Thank you Mr. Dan for riding along on Sidestep Adventures as your narratives add knowledge to the videos. I enjoyed finding about the folks that this video and the prior one was based upon.
Today Mr Bud story brought him alive, and Mr Dans gratitude to Mr Budd for his time and stories, started Mr Dans life long passion of remembering the people and there past.
I am so enjoying these history lessons. You, the other Robert, Dan, and Walt are bringing real history to all of us. I am the last in my family to know all the stories and where everyone is buried. The younger folk in the family don't really want to talk about it. Although Mr. Bud felt that when a person dies, their story goes with them, I am thankful you do read the headstones. Many of those folks have long been forgotten, but when you read the name it means something. Thanks to all of you for enduring the Georgia heat, chiggers, ticks, snakes, and briars.
School teachers used to live in houses located adjacent to the school. The houses were called teacherages. My mother, who finished college in 1944, lived in one for a couple of years. These teacherages made it possible for the teachers to have safe, affordable housing because they got paid very little. My family is from eastern NC.
Thank you Robert and Mr. Dan, your stories and memories of days gone by, helps those that have passed come to life once again. Thank you Mr. Dan for caring enough to save those pictures and for sharing.
Those pictures are beautiful, and are a priceless treasure. Never let anything happen to those photos, please. The lives they represent, and the people they have allowed us to meet, are invaluable. Thank you for telling us their stories and their family history.
Dan and Robert: I so appreciate your work and sharing. Dan: you do such a great Narrative and I can tell you held great respect and care for Mr Horton. Blessings to you both. Beth Tennessee, USA
Thank you for sharing. I too have been interested in the old folks stories and now in my 70's have passed a lot of knowledge on. Robert keep the torch burning bright and keep the fuel coming in. Thanks
Thank you for showing us Mr Bud. Mr Dan is such a great source of history. It’s nice to see him pass those stories on to you Robert… the two of you are doing such an amazing job of sharing the history of those long gone. The stories you share allow those folks to continue to live on.
I've gotten more enjoyment and enlightenment out of these last two videos than any before. Thank God for treasures like Mr. Bud Horton and thank God for bringing Mr. Dan and Mr. Bud together those many years ago. Thank you so much Robert for filming it and getting Mr. Dan's stories recorded. I'd be delighted if you should decide to get more of them recorded in the future. Maybe it could be something as simple as capturing Mr. Dan and his photo albums and have him go through them and tell the stories of different individuals he has in there. What a lovely way to spend a rainy Georgia afternoon! (And as for you Lord - we need a couple of enquiring young minds from the next couple of generations to see these stories and hook up with Mr. Dan so they can carry the tales forward!)
What a great opportunity to spend time with Bud Horton and learn stories of the history of your community. I came to learning my family history after the deaths of my mother and grandmother and I was in my early 20s. We moved away from my hometown in SE Arkansas when I was 9 and I missed a lot of the family stories.
I found this episode so interesting! We can learn a lot from past generations if we would only take the time to listen as demonstrated here. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I so much enjoy listening to Dan's stories of the past & people. More video's of him just sitting and telling stories would be very enjoyable. But it was also great for you guys to go on the road trip afterwards.
As a child I used to ride the debit route with my dad to collect weekly and monthly insurance payments from the local people of our county! I got to know many of the older black folks and have many fond memories of their stories! I can relate very well to your stories you tell about Mr Horton! I've always felt that it made me an old soul! Love learning about the past and what used to be! Most people today could care less about it! I never paid by or walk an old cemetary that it don't wonder who those people were and what their lives were like!!! The song I believe with the video is a perfect example of the impression some of these folks from the past left on me! Good job guys, thanks for what you do!!!
Fascinating history. Have you ever posted a map of your area with the Old Byrd farm and local points of interest? I’d love to get a context of the area.
Mr. Bud Horton sounds like a wonderful human. Would have been so fun to learn from him! I love that Dan has saved and shared about him and I know descendants who have recently discovered these videos and they are such a treasure for them. You already know agree wholeheartedly with what Dan said at the end of the video about how important documenting this local history is! Fun fact: Over near Nellie Brinson are some later style (1970s/80s) Eldren Bailey headstones. Love the history Dan gave about Nellie too. I photographed her grave specifically because I loved that homemade pottery vase that was built into the marker. Love those kind of cemetery artifacts. Great video!
I salute you Dan for sharing all this historical info with Robbie & us. What an epic honor to bestow it all to you Robbie. WOW!! Dan couldn't have picked a finer young man. Great 2 part series. Many thnx to both of you. 😊❣️🙋🏼♀️☮️
Thank you for an absolute wonderful trip from the past. So much history we don’t know about. Having faces for us to see was wonderful. Thanks to both of you for sharing what you both love so much.
Definitely my favorite video ever!! I love reading the names on graves at random cemeteries I find. I take pictures of them so I can research the names and see if I can find any info about the people. Putting a face with the name means the most!! Thank you for what y’all are doing!! ❤️
Great story. That’s very true, every grave is a life ,a person. They had their time on earth. Some life’s long and some very short. The photos, names and stories really bring them to life for a few minutes. Thank You.
Mr. Dan l applaud you for your knowledge and taking us on this journey. To have yourself and Robert is a true blessing. May you appear in many more videos. Thankyou!
Thank you so much for what you do. I have loved watching, listening, and learning from your videos. Dan, you are so blessed to have known Mr. Bud and others. To sit and listen to the stories had to be wonderful. Thank you for passing them on to us. I'm so thankful you rescued those portraits. I hope you have them in frames now to protect them. Thank you again.
Dan's right Robert. You will carry on these stories of your local history for generations to come. Make sure to share the stories with your kids too. My grandmother is 95 and I love listening to her stories of our family. Great video 👍.
mr. horton seemed like a wonderful amazing gentleman. one day in the future each grave should have a recording of the person's life to listen to, for people to enjoy while visiting. they are now at the Banquet of the Lord enjoying all that He Gives them.

I know where Blounts creek is!! I live up the road in Jamesville.
Why don't you consider writing the history and self publish on the internet? I bet people would be interested like myself... Good luck.
